The football board had the very useful Daily Trump Tracker thread, which was a good place to briefly discuss the latest ridiculous thing that might have ended 97% of prior Presidential administrations even if it didn't necessarily justify an entire thread devoted to it in 2017-2019 (because of the sheer volume of these things). Since I don't see anything like that here already, I'll add one myself.

So Trump is now inserting into mainstream American life the idea that US troops didn’t actually kill Osama bin Laden, organizer of the most violent act of war of all time committed on American soil - rather, his killing by Navy Seals was a hoax perpetrated by the American government. And Trump’s media generals have bin Laden’s niece on to talk about Trump supporters get treated worse than bin Ladens.

And yet in all of this utter delusion, Trump is the true patriot - his followers are the true Americans (in their minds). This is all insanity.

So here's the thing.

Her uncle, ironically, did more to unify this country than Trump ever did.

Trump's policies have literally killed more Americans, by orders of magnitude, than her uncle ever did.

Trump has moved the country closer and closer to right-wing militaristic theocracy, which is exactly what al-Qaeda wanted and ISIS temporarily established.

It's quite possible when all is said and done, Trump will bring about the downfall of America that her uncle only dreamed of.

So yea, I could see where it's tougher to be pro-Trump than to be the niece of bin Laden at this point.

Meanwhile in New Zealand...

Imagine a leader that doesn't openly foment hatred within its own citizenry?

It’s really something when even Fox News interprets this graffiti as “anti-Trump”. Even they seem to acknowledge he is showing fascist tendencies.

Seem being the key word there. If they'd come out full stop and condemn him as a fascist, they'd be legitimizing Antifa as a logical philosophy that opposes Trump and their main prime time talking points for the past 2 years would be a joke. While I'm not a supporter of unprovoked violence against people (which there really aren't that many cases of by Antifa - usually it's against anti-protesters who show up armed at BLM type protests) I'm all for agitating against fascist, militarized police departments who attack peaceful protesters. If I were still in my early to mid-20's...

So he has encouraged his rally crowd in Michigan to chant “lock her up” about Governor Whitmer, who was just last week the target of a terrorist plot to kidnap, “try” and execute her. Carried out by men who are sympathetic to Trump’s rantings, no less.

Who in the press will question him about what crime she has committed? Why isn’t he being hammered about this? Every self-respecting Republican should be denouncing this widely. He should be censured by Congress over this, IMO. We have ignored this kind of fascist claptrap far too long. It’s dangerous and it’s going to get someone killed eventually.

While watching the show Hunters on Amazon I posted on Facebook that it shows how we should handle Nazis today. That’s all I said. No mention of Trump or anything else.

I had three Trump supporters come on that status and go directly to defending Trump, his “both sides” comment and attacking Antifa.

Mentioning racism, Nazis or white supremacy around Trump supporters is a sort of Rorschach test. If they immediately start defending Trump they know exactly what he is.

Facebook needs to just be shut down already. Let people go back to emailing shirt to each other.

ETA: I never use it, have never liked a Trump anything, but when I check the notifications 3/4 of them are about him being live or some bullshirt supporting him. Sacha Baron Cohen is right.

Here are his points on FB from a recent article.

Obama's take on this is pretty spot on (starts around 26:50 if you aren't taken to that time-link):

It echoes stuff I have mentioned with twenty or so years of aggressive political punditry combined with social media has led to voters who only get their information through highly partisan surrogates. I would think people would have the sense to see through the propaganda they are inundated with but I guess that's asking too much of the American voter.

Older people ruined facebook.

It used to be a psuedo dating/socializing site for college kids, then younger working people, when they dropped the .edu requirement.

It's a way you found out "who that girl was" at the party. Taken to the extreme, it was a way of cyber stalking.

Then, those of us in our 20's, got older. Starting getting married, having kids, posting pictures of those kid. Suddenly, some older family members got on, so they could see pictures of the kids (vs having them mailed in). At first, it may have been a hip aunt/uncle.. an older cousin.. then your parents.

Around that time, your 'wall' expanded on what you could post and how much you could post.

That's when the politics happened.

If you go back 10-12 years ago, the people who usually spread political nonsense chain mails were mostly older people (older as in 50+).

None of that crap was on Facebook. None.

Older folks ruined that shirt. Now I'm tipping into that age group and I'll likely start ruining it further.

It's so bad, I even see this shirt on LinkedIn. Really?
