I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

don't know if this is true or not

but I heard that Pence's wife and child were on site in the Capitol yesterday and neither Trump nor the White House checked to make sure they were okay

I wonder how much different the response would have been had BLM or a Muslim group been involved? This is domestic terrorism, and it's the only kind of terrorism we've had since 2106 due to Trump stoking fires of white supremacy and election fraud.

.....This hot-arse MAGA mess can best be described as White Privilege Appreciation Day since there isn’t a chance in forking hell that Black or Brown folks could storm the capital, plant explosive devices, invade congressional offices and confiscate confidential materials, instigate an armed standoff at the doors of the House chamber, break windows, tear through barriers, and throw hands with police officers and live to tell the tale.

    No, sir.

Those watching the chaos ensue from home would’ve had front row seats to a bloodbath. Because cops shoot XXXXX every damn day for much less.

I didn’t know this, but I think the sergeant at arms supervises the Capitol police.

I don't believe that's correct. They're a separate office from the USCP. There are 2 sergeant of arms in the Capitol, the House has one and the Senate has one. They are elected by the respective branches. Schumer can't fire the House sergeant of arms, and I'm not even sure he can fire the Senate sergeant of arms since both are elected officials. I suspect they would have to be voted out by Congress. I'm not entirely sure though.

Just play basketball. Did I do that right?
It is pitiful. Just look how they protected the capital this summer during the BLM protests for proof.

Pence isn't going to do it and if he tries to self-pardon, the action against it will be swift and near unanimous.

A majority of the Republican membership of the House of Representatives voted to overturn the results of the Presidential election AFTER Trump incited a riot and takeover of the Capitol. I've seen at least one poll showing that close to a majority of Republicans favor the "protesting" that happened yesterday. The sentiment against Trump is nowhere near unanimous, and this proves yet again (as has been proven literally hundreds of times dating back 5 1/2 years) that it never will be. The top ranking members of the GOP house delegation will take selfies with the paperwork where he gives himself a pardon and call him a patriot.

opinion article on media/social media's role in all this
    ==================================

The media followed suit, broadcasting fraudulent claims and adding fuel to the fire. The trend has continued even on Wednesday as right wing pundits, searching to shirk any responsibility, were making up false claims that yesterday ’s white supremacist insurrection is somehow Black activists’ fault. Corporate advertisers continue to enable them by undicerningly funding these misinformed, dangerous media shows.

Meanwhile, social media companies like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube ignored warnings from Color Of Change and other civil rights groups about the dangers of white supremacists, far-right conspiracists, and racist militias that have been using their platforms to organize and recruit members for years. Leaders of these companies have allowed misinformation to run rampant on their channels, despite the fact that these posts broke their own platform rules.

Facebook allowed far-right extremists to use the network to organize #StopTheSteal rallies that spread misinformation that delegitimize the election results. Twitter provided Trump with a megaphone to manipulate and misinform millions, inspire hate crimes, and embolden violent white supremacist terrorism, including Wednesday’s insurgency until it was too late. While the companies finally listened to our demands, blocking Trump from twitter for 12 hours, the long-term impact of their failure to implement their own rules remains.

Then there are corporations like JP Morgan Chase and Stripe that are clearly enablers as they continue to profit from white nationalists who process donations on their platforms...................

I'm just wondering why they're waiting for the 25th? Just go ahead and start impeachment proceedings. Trump's cabinet, or what's left of it isn't going to vote him out.
They're holding on to the hope that some Republicans will do the right thing

Edit: 25 mins on hold hmmmm...sounds like a non-verbal confirmation.

We need an inpatient psych evaluation IMO.

just heard reporting on tv that while he was glued to the tv watching yesterday he did indeed refuse to send the national guard and had to be coerced into it. According to reports he said he liked what he was seeing and didn’t understand the difference between this and BLM protests that had some violence.

If he's impeached twice, there's no doubt he goes down as the single worst president in history.

I think he's already there, but this would make it official for history.
