I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

Hunter is a complete trainwreck by any standard, and people love a good trainwreck celebrity.

He reflects poorly on Joe, and your last paragraph kind of supports that. Daddy didn't love him as much as golden child Beau, and look how he turned out. Basically if you took all the jokes about Eric Trump and made them into a person, it would be Hunter Biden.

Then there is the coverup of the laptop story - which again, not really that relevant, but it could have affected the election and was definitely buried by most media outlets for that reason. I for one am glad they covered it up. People are dumb.
There could be a lot of truth to the theory about Hunter feeling second to Beau, but I did read that a lot of Hunter’s drug issues got worse after Beau’s death and that they were very close. Who knows? None of our business really.

I agree it's not, but he's the son of the President, so he'll get lots of scrutiny whether we like it or not. Comes with the territory.

Michigan Republican gubernatorial candidate Ryan D. Kelley was arrested Thursday on misdemeanor charges of participating in the Jan. 6, 2021, siege of the Capitol, including a count of damaging federal property, the Justice Department announced.

A contender in the state’s crowded Aug. 8 primary, Kelley, 40, of Allendale, Mich., faces four counts punishable by up to a year in prison, including trespassing, disorderly conduct, committing an act of violence against a person or property on restricted grounds, and depredation of federal property, according to charging papers.

His home in Allendale, Mich., was searched by the FBI on Thursday morning.
Kelley was released from custody Thursday afternoon after a brief initial appearance in federal court before U.S. Magistrate Judge Sally J. Berens of Grand Rapids, Mich..

A follow-up hearing was scheduled for next week. Kelley’s attorney, Heath Lynch, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Kelley is the latest of more than half dozen Republican officeholders, candidate, or local party leaders to be charged in the Capitol breach, with several pleading guilty or being convicted at trial.

He was arrested as the House Select Committee investigating the events of Jan. 6 was preparing to hold its first prime-time televised hearings Thursday night…….

Who’s planning on watch the hearing tonight?

Rumor is that they want to make sure they have and keep peoples attention so they’ll drop a big bombshell early

I may watch a bit but I’ll probably watch and read the recaps and commentary afterwards

Republicans have played this game before. They insist that exposing an indefensible deed committed by one of their own “won’t matter” because those who have made up their mind (i.e., themselves) won’t be swayed. (Tautology alert!)

The media repeats this talking report to sound “balanced” or sophisticated. Polls after the proceedings show that opinion has not shifted much. Republicans then exult: See, we were right! (Funny how they never voiced this argument regarding the Benghazi hearings.)

Such inane and irrelevant commentary is now coursing through mainstream media today regarding the House select committee’s hearings on the Jan. 6 insurrection, even though the hearings involve the fate of our democracy and the worst betrayal by an American president in history.

Giving the party responsible for the attack on the Capitol veto power over whether the investigation “matters” is, sadly, what much of the news coverage has come to. The only thing worse is pronouncing investigations into hugely important topics “boring.” Ignore it.

How is it that so many in the media don’t recognize that serious public investigations do not set moving poll numbers as their primary purpose?

Congress conducted its 9/11 investigation not to change how the public felt about President George W. Bush or national security, but because it was lawmakers’ solemn obligation to construct a definitive account of the first attack on the homeland since Pearl Harbor, apportion responsibility and make recommendations to protect the country…….

Um, because if you don't move poll numbers you're just jacking off.

I was surprised this wasn’t a bigger story

Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, pressed 29 Republican state lawmakers in Arizona — 27 more than previously known — to set aside Joe Biden’s popular vote victory and “choose” presidential electors, according to emails obtained by The Washington Post……

I'd really like to see this pointed out in the hearings. Not sure whether it would distract from the attack on the Capitol story.

Why isn't she in jail?

Only think I can think of is...

she is the wife of a supreme court justice and how bad of a look it would be if she were arrested and him still on the bench making decisions that will effect the rest of the country. I've no doubt that he has been compromised by her craziness. Or maybe they both were all this time, and this is just scratching the surface. If he had any shred of ethics left in his body, he would step down.

Well, his wife doesn't speak for him. I don't think there's anything actionable solely because they happen to be married. That said, I think she's wrong and Thomas should step down, but I don't see ithappening. I've never heard of a SCOTUS Justice stepping down for that reason so idk.

I don't see it either. It just I guess you could say, a mini rhetorical rant. I can't see someone, unless maybe completely detached, to not have had some kind of influence on a spouse. Whether that be a small amount or large, being with someone for decades, either consciously or subconsciously. It rubs me the wrong way how someone with the amount of decision-making power for the whole country, and his wife was...well, doing what she was doing. I want to say he could step down due to "conflict of interest" but I am projecting my idea of ethics here.

Federal prosecutors are alleging that a man who was recently charged for taking part in the January 6th Capitol riots abandoned his hospitalized mother so he could take part in the failed insurrection.

As flagged by NBC News' Ryan Reilly, an indictment unsealed last week alleged that 27-year-old Trump supporter Luke Michael Lints of Traverse City, Michigan attended former President Donald Trump's "Stop the Steal" rally with his mother in Washington D.C. on January 6th, 2021.

After the rally, the two followed Trump's instructions to walk down to the United States Capitol, but along the way, Lints's mother had an undisclosed "medical episode" that forced her to be taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Rather than join his mother at the hospital, Lints kept walking to the Capitol, where prosecutors allege he physically assaulted law enforcement officers and illegally entered the Capitol...........
