    I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

    Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

    Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

    So this is a thing that exists

    ....The ceramic mug was for sale in the Hawley campaign's online store for $20 at press time. However, according to Rolling Stone magazine, Hawley might not have the license to use the image. The Associated Press, which owns the rights, said in an email to Rolling Stone that they would be looking into the matter.....

    How does the legalities of the photo work? (not just this instance but generally speaking)

    Yes, it's AP's photo but what about the guy in the photo? "it's your picture but my likeness"

    One sixth of a fist would only amount to being five sixths of one finger.

    So maybe instead of that being a powerful American Bird coffee mug, that thing would only amount to being a dainty American Chick tea cup.

    One would need a lace doily and saucer to set if on.

    :)

    In case you're wondering what the heck I was doing there, I was punning with fractions.

    Color me so unsurprised:

    That tweet is a bit misleading tho. Involved with sounds more like attended than just donating to. I can see 1100 people having donated to both. That's not too surprising. That number actually attending, I don't see it.

    The article the tweet quotes seems legitimate enough tho.

    That's why I didn't bother posting just her tweet. I saw it and first thought that she meant 1100 of the 1/6 scumbags were actually participating in the trucker BS like you did. Honestly, the fact that 1100 people are willing to part with their money to support chaos in the name of chaos under the guise of being "conservatives" is pretty pathetic in and of itself though.

    It was nice to see that the person who made the original tweet wasn't trying to gaslight with it. She replied to her own tweet explaining that she'd just heard the house leader say it when she was asked for a source. And she's just some nobody in Canada, AFAIK. She has more integrity than most far right "journalists" these days based on her actions with this tweet alone.

    Mr. Podium sentenced to 75 days
    ======================

    WASHINGTON — A Florida man who bragged he "broke the internet" when he was photographed carrying House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's podium during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol was sentenced to 75 days in prison on Friday.

    Adam Johnson, a stay-at-home father of five boys, traveled to D.C. in support of former President Donald Trump's efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, which Trump lost to President Joe Biden. U.S. District Court Judge Reggie B. Walton sentenced Johnson to prison on Friday, saying Johnson made "a mockery" of the events by grabbing Pelosi's lectern and played an active role in the attack. Walton said he just couldn't overlook Johnson's behavior, which he said was deserving of a period of incarceration. Johnson will get credit for some time he's already served, and will also pay a $5,000 fine...........

    First trial coming up
    =================

    A 48-year-old Texas militia member will appear before a jury in Washington, D.C., next week – the first of the more than 700 defendants charged in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot to go to trial.

    Guy Reffitt, of Wylie, Texas, faces five felony charges for his alleged role in the effort to disrupt the certification of Electoral College votes for President Joe Biden. If convicted of the most serious charge against him – obstruction of an official proceeding – he faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

    Here’s what to know as the Department of Justice begins its first prosecution in the unprecedented assault on the U.S. Capitol Building:

    The Charges Against Him

    Reffitt faces five felony charges in his case:

    • Transporting a firearm in furtherance of civil disorder
    • Obstruction of an official proceeding and aiding and abetting
    • Entering and remaining in a restricted grounds with a firearm
    • Obstructing officers during a civil disorder
    • Obstruction of justice – Hindering communication through physical force or threat of physical force
    Prosecutors will tell jurors Reffitt is a member of the anti-government Three Percenters militia movement and that he spent the weeks leading up to the Capitol riot discussing his plans for Jan. 6, when then-President Donald Trump had urged followers to travel to D.C. for a “wild” protest to “Stop the Steal.”

    Once at the Capitol, Reffitt is accused of entering the restricted area on the lower west terrace, where three U.S. Capitol Police officers say it took multiple rounds of pepper balls and O.C. spray to repel him from entering the building. Prosecutors say photos from the riot show he carried a semi-automatic handgun in a holster on his waist on Capitol grounds.

    After returning home from D.C., Reffitt’s children say he threatened them if they cooperated with law enforcement, warning them “they would be traitors, and traitors get shot.”

    Each count of civil disorder carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. Carrying a firearm onto restricted grounds carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

    Each count of obstruction carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.............

    fork that guy

    Maximum sentences. Not to be served concurrently. That is over 60 years. That is getting close to their deserved punishment.

    And if anyone has an issue I thought we need to get tough in crime. At least that is what I keep hearing. We are just letting violent criminals on to the streets with slaps on the wrist I am told.

    I agree. Let’s put violent criminals away with sentences the deter further crime. Let’s start with this mouth breather who got his feelings hurt when his guy lost and FAAFO.

    Pled guilty, didn’t see that coming
    ==========================

    A member of the far-right Oath Keepers extremist group has become the first to admit to engaging in seditious conspiracy to keep President Biden from taking office on Jan. 6, 2021.

    Joshua James, 34, of Arab, Ala., pleaded guilty in federal court in Washington on Wednesday to helping lead a group that prosecutors say sent two tactically equipped teams into the Capitol and organized a cache of weapons in a hotel just outside the city.

    He also pleaded guilty to one count of obstructing an official proceeding, and he may face the stiffest sentence of any Jan. 6 defendant so far, according to preliminary sentencing guidelines.

    As part of his plea, James agreed to cooperate with federal investigators, including testifying in front of a grand jury………..

    As a mob ransacked the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, Roger Stone, Donald Trump’s longest-serving political adviser, hurried to pack a suitcase inside his elegant suite on the fifth floor of the Willard hotel. He wrapped his tailored suits in trash bags, reversed his black face mask so its “Free Roger Stone” logo was hidden, then slipped out of town for a hastily arranged private flight from Dulles International Airport.

    “I really want to get out of here,” Stone told an aide, as they were filmed at the hotel by a Danish camera crew for a documentary on the veteran Republican operative. Stone said he feared prosecution by the incoming attorney general, Merrick Garland. “He is not a friend,” Stone said.

    Stone allowed the filmmakers to document his activities during extended periods over more than two years. In addition to interviews and moments when Stone spoke directly to the camera, they also captured fly-on-the-wall footage of his actions, candid off-camera conversations from a microphone he wore and views of his iPhone screen as he messaged associates on an encrypted app.

    Reporters from The Washington Post reviewed more than 20 hours of video filmed for the documentary, “A Storm Foretold,” which is expected to be released later this year.

    The footage, along with other reporting by The Post, provides the most comprehensive account to date of Stone’s involvement in the former president’s effort to overturn the election and in the rallies in Washington that spilled over into violence on Jan. 6.

    Stone privately coordinated post-election protests with prominent figures, and in January hecommunicated by text message with leaders of far-right groups that had been involved in the attack on the Capitol, the footage shows.

    The filmmakers did not capture conversations between Stone and Trump, but on several occasions, Stone told them or his associates that he remained in contact with the president…….

    He's such a great guy to work with!

    After ending the call, he turned to the filmmakers. “Obviously if you use any of that, I’ll murder you,” he said.

    So can any of this lead to Eastman being sanctioned, suspended, or even disbarred?

    "I have run down every legal trail placed before me to its conclusion, and I respectfully conclude that as a legal framework, it is a results-oriented position that you would never support if attempted by the opposition, and essentially entirely made up," Jacob wrote Eastman. "And thanks to your bullshirt, we are now under siege."
    To which Eastman responds: "The 'siege' is because YOU and your boss did not do what was necessary to allow this to be aired in a public way so the American people can see for themselves what happened."

    In his next response, Jacob drops the hammer: "The advice provided has, whether intended or not, functioned as a serpent in the ear of the President of the United States, the most powerful office in the entire world. And here we are."

    Jacob went on:

    "Respectfully, it was gravely, gravely irresponsible for you to entice the President with an academic theory that had no legal viability, and that you well know we would lose before any judge who heard and decided the case. And if the courts declined to hear it, I suppose it could only be decided in the streets. The knowing amplification of that theory through numerous surrogates, whipping large numbers of people into a frenzy over something with no chance of ever attaining legal force through actual process of law, has led us to where we are."

    So can any of this lead to Eastman being sanctioned, suspended, or even disbarred?

    I'd prefer indicted and convicted. Then his law license is moot. Plotting to overthrow a free and fair election has to be illegal, right?

    Guilty of all charges

    WASHINGTON (AP) — A Texas man was convicted on Tuesday of storming the U.S. Capitol with a holstered handgun, a milestone victory for federal prosecutors in the first trial among hundreds of cases arising from last year's riot.

    A jury also convicted Guy Wesley Reffitt of interfering with police officers who were guarding the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and of obstructing justice for threatening his two teenage children if they reported him to law enforcement after the attack. Jurors deliberated about three hours and convicted him on all counts.

    The verdict could be a bellwether for many other Capitol riot cases. It could give Justice Department prosecutors more leverage in plea negotiations and discourage other defendants from gambling on trials of their own......

    Interesting read
    ====================
    A survey of 315 Capitol Police officers found law enforcement "felt discouraged or hesitant to use force" on January 6 as the U.S. Capitol was overrun by a mob intent on overturning the 2020 presidential election. The 115-page report issued by the Government Accountability Office nearly 14 months after the Capitol insurrection has urged U.S. Capitol Police to offer additional crowd-control training, as well as pre-operational guidance to officers on the ground.

    In total,190 respondents expressed concerns or made suggestions related to information sharing, with one offering that "had any information on the morning of the 6th aside from 'prepare for a long day' they would have had a different mindset when the group approached."

    More than half of the officers surveyed said that guidance and intelligence shared before and during the attack was "not at all clear" or "not provided."

    According to the report, approximately 150 officers recalled 293 use-of-force incidents, with open-hand pushing ranking as the most prominent technique employed (91 incidents), followed by batons (83 incidents) and withdrawing a firearm from its holster (37 incidents.) In 17 cases, officers reported pointing a firearm at an individual, though only one officer opened fire.

    Over half of respondents said more instruction was needed, with dozens of officers requesting more courses on "very large or violent crowd control" as well as "more realistic training."..........
