I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

Why do you feel comfortable looking at these men and knowing what‘s in their hearts, but in your response to FTP you said you couldn’t see inside the cop’s heart to know if he is racist?

To me, that’s not being very consistent.
What does racism have to do with grown men crying on TV?

What color was the cop that followed FTP? These are two white rich politicians, call it a hunch they are not good people.

The hypocrisy of your statement is wild. You of all people on this board constantly label the other side strictly by what letter follows their name, do you not? You do.
I will also always give a cop the benefit of the doubt over a politicians no matter what side they play for.

What's your issue with Kinzinger outside of the crying? He's a Republican Iraqi war combat vet and I looked up his net worth and it was like $300,000 something.. I'm not aware of any particular corruption or anything from him.

All I know is this guy cried on TV while doing his job. It was so obvious fake and staged. Goes back to respect. He has none for himself obviously. As far as his net worth, give him time, he will make his money from us electing soon enough.

Farb, racism was simply the subject of the thread I quoted. Why so defensive?

Do you not see that you are saying you can’t see the FTP cop’s mind to know, but you are willing to judge these other police officers and Kinzinger? Also without knowing. Can you explain the difference? These cops are not politicians, so that excuse doesn’t work.

I do not judge people solely on their party affiliation. I know we both use short cuts when we discuss people who oppose our viewpoints but I assume you know there are good people who are democrats, right? Just as there are good people who are republicans. So don’t get all self righteous over something you also do.

I follow many people on Twitter from both parties and also some with no party. I do judge people based on their words and deeds though, which might be the source of the confusion now that I think about it. We haven’t seen the kind of integrity on display lately from all that many elected Republicans that I was used to seeing in the days of my youth. The party used to actually stand for something other than a cult of personality. Now it’s hard to figure out what they stand for except treating people badly and being ugly in general.

Yeah, no way that hearing the violence that the people who were literaly protecting you and your colleagues endured could cause an emotional response or cause a person to cry with compassion. What a total fake!

This is the most ridiculous BS ever. He has no respect for himself because he cried? Just BS. I have no idea if Kinzinger was sincere or not, I didn't watch the vid, but that guy has been one of the few Republicans who isn't scared to speak the truth. I'll assume he was acting with the same demeanor and self respects that it takes to not lie to yourself or your constituents.

But your reaction is completely consistent with Trumpism, at least you got that down.

These 2 clowns do nothing but make loud noises, 2 utterly worthless garbage people... But why Gaetz is going to a prison when he may end up in one eventually is kinda funny...

Hopefully we’re treating these terrorists how we typically treat terrorists.

About 47 percent of Republicans believe that a time will come when “patriotic Americans have to take the law into their own hands,” according to a George Washington University poll on Americans’ faith in election systems and democratic values.

The GW Politics Poll, conducted among more than 1,700 registered voters from June 4 to June 23 and released this week, found that support for principles like free and fair elections, free speech and peaceful protest were nearly unanimous among Democratic and Republican voters. Approximately 55 percent of GOP respondents, however, said they support the potential use of force to preserve the “traditional American way of life,” compared to just 15 percent of Democrats.

Has anyone of them insurrectionist been charged with treason, insurrection or anything by the like?
    Most just trespassing, right?

I am not Gaetz fan at all. He reminds me of beavis but at least he is asking some questions about the huge disparity between the coverage and governmental reaction of the 2 linked events.

With the left push to defund the police and crime surging, then this poll is correct. No police, means citizens have to protect themselves.

I will wait for the semantics of the questions asked to be addressed since that is the favorite thing for the left to do on a poll they don't agree with. Surely that will happen here for consistency sake. Or so I have been told.

Do you agree with the poll or not? you seem to say it is correct, then say you want to see the data because that's how the left deals with polls they don't agree with.

If I remember the NRA indoctrination of my youth (until columbine) those numbers I doubt have changed all that much in all honesty. You’ve always had that armed ‘Murican out to protect their stuff.

However, as with anything let’s see how many would actually do it. How many would actually commit murder/kill someone for that idea? Also, how would a rational person think that them and their AR-15 is going to stand against a predator? It’s a great talking point, but in reality highly doubtful.
Now with that being said, unless this country does something about income and asset unequality, all bets are off. That gap between the haves and the have nots is getting alarmingly wide

What last year showed us is that the NRA isn't going to take up arms to prevent tyranny. Oh, hell no. They're going to take up arms to enforce it.

A civil war is unlikely, but I worry about the tribalism and how each side demonizes the other side 24/7. Do not underestimate the capacity of humans for violence.

After Jan 6th? You'd be a fool to do so.

I mean, in a weird way it's heartening to see that we're not as apathetic as I'd feared. OTOH, it's terrifying how easily misled some people are.

I think we all figured he was actually trying to steal the election in his ham handed way. But it’s nice that these notes are being released.

“Former President Donald Trump pressured top Justice Department officials to publicly call the 2020 election “illegal” and “corrupt” and “leave the rest to me,” according to handwritten notes released by a House committee on Friday.

The notes, written by former acting Deputy Attorney General Richard P. Donoghue, shine additional light on the Trump’s unprecedented effort to overturn President Joe Biden’s victory during his waning days in office, based on false claims of fraud.”
