Former President D. Trump has been indicted by a New York Grand Jury. There will be much to talk about on this topic because this is just the first step in a lengthy process.
Possibly it is worthy of its own thread here rather than posting about Trump's indictment in already existing threads?

This 3/31/23 story might get the ball rolling....

I disagree. It would be the fault of the judge, not that it would matter.

Fanni Willis is going to go down as a villain who wasted the best chance to get Trump.

Her behavior has been terrible, and she has told multiple lies under oath.

It will be 100% her fault if Trump gets away with this.

We shouldn't be more forgiving of her than we are of Trump.

Yes, we should be. She had a short lived relationship with a colleague. Trump tried to have the legal, presidential vote in Georgia overturned through illegal and nefarious means. The two are not comparable. One is much worse than the other.

it wasn't short lived, and she has lied about it multiple times under oath.

    She hired her boyfriend.

    She blew this prosecution.

Whatever man. Like I said, I do not care. It has nothing to do with Trump's case and you haven't provided any substantive facts (nor has Trump and his co-conspirators lawyers) that it has effected this case in any way. It's all just gossip, and that's why it pisses me off that this judge has allowed this to continue for so long. But I expect nothing less, as I've already said.

At this point, there is nothing that will convince me otherwise.

There is actually quite a bit of evidence that Willis has lied.

I get that you don't care, but that doesn't mean that Willis isn't to blame for this case disappearing, which is what I think is the most likely outcome at this point.

Have Willis' lies had any impact on the facts surrounding Trump's prosecution?

Yes, because it is going to result in her being removed from the case.

Other than it causing the whole case to be in jeopardy, no it has nothing to do with whether or not Trump is guilty.

That doesn't change the facts surrounding Trump's prosecution at all. It also doesn't change why Trump was charged to begin with. Which is why I don't care and why this is just a side show of the highest order.

Also the reason I blame the judge, he should have never let it get to this point. In allowing this to continue, the judge has been as irresponsible as Wills and Wade were in having a relationship during the investigation.

I don't think the judge had a choice.

The claims being made by Trump's side are credible. I don't like saying that anymore than you like hearing it.

It doesn't matter what we think about law in this situation. If the law says that a prosecutor using public funds to hire a boyfriend who is then using some of that money to purchase gifts for her is wrong, then it doesn't matter what we think about it.

Everything I've seen suggests that while bad optics there isn't enough to remove her from this case, but may result in a separate ethics down the line

Article I read said that according to the letter the law there aren't grounds for removal

The judge definitely had a choice in dealing with those complaints in a different manner. He's chosen the worst possible way to address them.

Also, I don't think the law says that, but Trump's lawyers want you to believe the law says that.

The Judge seems to think the law says that too.

    The judge isn't a Trumper.

If you say so. I guess we'll see when he makes his ruling on this side show. If the judge doesn't kick Wills and Wade off the case, would that change you mind about what the law says?

    The judge isn't a Trumper.

Neither is Merrick Garland. You don't need to be a Trumper to make poor decisions involving Trump's legal issues.

I don't have to be, plenty of qualified people have second guessed Merrick Garland slow walking Trump's prosecution after he was appointed. That should have been priority #1 given the implications for our country and government.

Yea, there were plenty of qualified people saying that horse dewormer cured covid too.
