Oh, but he's only joking - well, maybe, so they say. Or sort of joking with Canada, and maybe not joking with Greenland - saying that "ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity" doesn't sound like a joke . . . and um, not sure about what the about Panama Canal thing is?

I have no do doubt that Trump has supporters who drank the koolaide. But I know lots of folks who voted for him eyes wide open. They choose him over Biden and they choose him over Harris. They didn’t trust Biden Harris anymore than you trust Trump. They didn’t like what they saw in the last 4 years and didn’t have any confidence that Harris was up to the job.
Didn’t the vast majority of GOP voters think that Dems cheated to win the 2020 election?

Edit: fairly recent figures show that yes, they did. I think that a fair assumption is that the majority of the people who voted for Trump believe his lies.

“As of September 2023, six in ten white evangelical Protestants (60%) say the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump, compared with 38% of white mainline/non-evangelical Protestants and white Catholics, 24% of Hispanic Catholics, 23% of religiously unaffiliated Americans, and 11% of Black Protestants. These views have remained largely unchanged since 2021.

The vast majority of Americans who most trust far-right television news (92%) and two-thirds of those who most trust Fox News (65%) say the election was stolen. Around four in ten of those who do not trust TV news (38%) and 14% of those who most trust mainstream television news hold the same view.”

I think your perception that “lots and lots” of GOP voters don’t believe Trump is probably off a good bit.

Do you think Trumps proposal was serious? I don’t. But it did start a conversation.

Trump: We’re going to kick the Palestinians not just out of their home, but out of their homeland, clear the rubble, develop the land and the US will own it, might use the military to do it

Oh what a kidder!

Exactly the type of jokes you want from the president of the United States

It started conversations all right, most of them starting with “what the fork?!”

I think it’s safe to say that most people including most Republicans and Independents understand the President is prone to exaggeration. Yes. Do they believe “everything” he says? No I don’t believe so. YMMV

You’re right, we should not put any stock whatsoever in what the President of the United States has to say .

Wtf kind of fantasy land are you living in ? Cause it sure ain’t the real world .
I suppose you bought everything Biden said hook, line and sinker? Did you think Uncle Boogie was eaten by cannibals in New Guinea? Did you believe he was all there? What fantasy land were you living in? Cause it sure ain’t the real world.

Real world. Politicians lie and exaggerate all the time. If you think one party is somehow immune, I get how you get your name.

They demonstrably believe his lies about the 2020 election. Per repeated polling. This is mass delusion on a grand scale.

They can know he’s lying about his golf scores - but thats inconsequential. If they believe his lies about the 2020 election, we are dealing with a majority of one party who is deluded and doesn’t live in reality.

The ‘Whataboutism’ is strong with you .

Also i noticed that you conveniently ignored my request that anyone who voted for this guy simply own whatever happens as a result .. the Maga crowd are supposed to be about ‘personal accountability’ , but i guess when it comes to Trump that all goes out the window .

Ok. So you think Trumps voters are delusional. I get it. How is that working out for you? Do you think that was a good election strategy? Do you think dwelling on that is gonna work post election? Weren’t the people who swore Biden was all there and fit to serve another 4 years also delusional? Lots of delusion going on out there.

All of that angst gets us absolutely nowhere. Calling each other delusional is just a waste of time.

Republicans and Democrats fight almost as much as Sunnis and Shias or Israelis and Palestinians. That’s where we are.

I think anyone who voted for him bears some responsibility for his election. That is what voting is all about. Did I really need to say that? They teach that in 8th grade civics.

Do you think voting for someone means that you support each and everything they do while in office? Do you think you are personally responsible for everything someone you vote for does in office. I don’t think a vote is a blanket endorsement. But that’s me. Maybe you feel differently?

Maybe i ‘feel’ differently ? This isn’t about ‘feelings’ bro.. I shouldn’t have to tell you that, Trump voters are part of the ‘f*** ur feelings’ crowd……. It literally makes no difference how i feel, but it would be nice, for once in their lives, for Republicans/conservatives/magas to not deflect to ‘blame Obama/Joe/Nancy/insert liberal’ .. but it is my “feeling” that they will once again ‘blame the Dems’ in 2025, 2026, 2027 and every year moving forward, even if Right-wingers control every lever of government as they now do as i type this .

Obviously Republicans have responsibility to lead. They have the levers of power. The majority in the House is razor thin and the filibuster is still in place in the Senate. So the Dems do have a few good cards in their hand.

Elections happen every two years. So if Republicans don’t deliver, they will be judged accordingly and things could just as easily swing the other way. I’ve seen it happen many times.

Dems blame Republicans and vice versa. What’s new in that. It’s been that way since before I started voting. Nothing new.

Do you realize this is now a meme, you guys keep excusing what he says...
Here comes both SoS Rubio and Spokesperson Leavitt to explain parts 2 thru 4 of the meme.

Now, Trump isn't saying this, it's some others interpreting. I fully expect this question to come up again in future, him to reply exactly as he did Tuesday and rinse repeat.

You think people don’t recognize who Trump is? That’s laughable. They know who he is. They have accepted who he is. They choose him over Biden/Harris despite who he is and all his baggage. I don’t know what you expect to happen. He isn’t going to change and those folks who supported him aren’t suddenly going to switch ideologies. So complain all you want Jim.

Another part of the underlying problem is that all the opposition has offered is whining about Trump. That was not a winning election strategy and I doubt it will be any more successful post election. Maybe it’s all they have.
I agree with this. Trump’s minions will follow him as he’s leading them into a furnace, let him open the door, and they will walk right into the fire, believing him that they will be fine.

It’s going to take a real crisis that hits them directly in the pocketbook or reduction in freedom for them to change their minds about him. It will take either skyrocketing inflation or a martial law declaration. Personally, I think we’re heading toward both.

Right now he’s isolating us from the world while flaming the political gap internally. Even the threats of tariffs is having an immediate impact on grocery prices. We are not heading in a good direction.
