There is a lot of push-back from Trump on voting by mail, but most states allow it, and 1/3 allow it without any excuse. His rationale is that it will lead to vast fraud, but of course that isn't his real reason. His real reason is that he thinks it will be worse for conservatives, but studies have shown that states that have instituted much broader voting by mail haven't had any statistical changes in party voting.

Although, normally voting by mail doesn't affect party votes, I bet it might this year if we have another resurgence of Covid, because I think the right is much more apt to discount the virus than the left. I know that is why Trump is against it.

Whether you're left or right wing, expanding mail in votes is the right thing to do to reduce the likelihood of spreading the virus, to expand voter participation, and to make it easier for those that do show up to stay distant. It will also allow any people with susceptibilities to remain safer. I think voting by mail could be made extremely secure by having people vote using traditional postal mail, coupled with requiring a confirmation either by phone, email or text. If done by phone, then voters can provide confirmation that can include confirming their form number. If done by email or text, it can include a picture of their form, and then confirmation that that was their form. Rather than staffers individually calling people, this can be automated by having voters call the number, text the number, or email the address provided to them on their form. A website can even be created with a database of those that have voted, and perhaps a link to allow people to confirm their vote was correctly registered. For people without computers, a site can include a means to access the database over the phone with some confirmation information. These types of systems are used extensively by banks and other sites that need security, so I think they are mature enough to use. We could even use such a site for people to confirm their vote on the day of the election.

It’s possible that the House might be called back into session to deal with oversight of the mess with the USPS

I actually *almost* feel bad for Nancy, Chuck et al for not getting a vacation from all the craziness and obstruction of the Republicans... Almost.. but not quite, since theyre compensated handsomely.. So yeah, let’s hope they all get their ***es back post haste to clean up the latest Trump mess, and possibly help save the USPS.

    FTFY.

No Republican/conservative cares. Anything for them to stay in power is OK. Any vote for Trump at this point is morally dubious.
This amazes me like notning in reality has ever amazed me. I've watched these people all of my life screaming about being the moral majority and strong on religious values and against voter fraud to now see them be completely comlicit with the violation of everything they lied about believing in. It is truly astounding to be witnessing what we are witnessing. As a country we've got one foot on a banana peel to complete destruction from within and the other on the other on a complete rebuild. This is history folks. We are living in history.

The next play: we won't know who really won for months or maybe even years. I don't see how anyone can downplay this anymore. This is how dictatorships start.

"Usually at the end of the evening, they say 'Donald Trump has won the election, Donald Trump is your new president,'" Trump said during a press conference at his Bedminster, New Jersey, resort.

"You know what? You're not going to know this — possibly, if you really did it right — for months or for years. Because these ballots are all going to be lost, they're all going to be gone," Trump said, repeating false claims about vote-by-mail ballots.

This is why I hope there is so much uproar about his shady tactics, that he gets soundly beaten and the results are not close. But being that he sues anyone for anything, it would not surprise me if he were to sue the election results, similar to what took place during the Bush/Gore election (anyone remember the simpler days of the hanging chads?)

But ignore all the deceit and underhanded tactics... that's just winning baby.. the Democrats are actually evil. Right?

Just so sick of the self serving and purposefully deconstruction of government. Not even going after actual bloating. Breaking the entire system. It's sick.

I’ve seen a lot of bloviating from right wingers about the Post Office “losing money” and that’s why we have to put up with this election tampering.

The Post Office is a service, one could very well argue a vital service, for this country’s citizens. That doesn’t mean we have to shovel money at it, but it also doesn’t mean they should actually cripple it to the point that medicines for disabled vets and elderly shut-ins, not to mention cancer patients, are delayed.

We shouldn’t expect it to necessarily turn a profit, especially not during a deadly pandemic that isn’t being mitigated properly to being with.

I hate to ascribe ill intent when incompetence could explain, but I’m losing patience with this crap. They promised yesterday or Friday to quit removing drop boxes, so now I see pictures on line of rows of drop boxes with locks on them to prevent their use. That’s not following through with their promises, that’s lying about what you are doing.

Article I, Section 8, Clause 7 of the United States Constitution, known as the Postal Clause or the Postal Power, empowers Congress "To establish Post Offices and Post Roads"

Doesn’t say profitable just says it has to exist. Congress isn’t profitable, yet it exists.
