There is a lot of push-back from Trump on voting by mail, but most states allow it, and 1/3 allow it without any excuse. His rationale is that it will lead to vast fraud, but of course that isn't his real reason. His real reason is that he thinks it will be worse for conservatives, but studies have shown that states that have instituted much broader voting by mail haven't had any statistical changes in party voting.

Although, normally voting by mail doesn't affect party votes, I bet it might this year if we have another resurgence of Covid, because I think the right is much more apt to discount the virus than the left. I know that is why Trump is against it.

Whether you're left or right wing, expanding mail in votes is the right thing to do to reduce the likelihood of spreading the virus, to expand voter participation, and to make it easier for those that do show up to stay distant. It will also allow any people with susceptibilities to remain safer. I think voting by mail could be made extremely secure by having people vote using traditional postal mail, coupled with requiring a confirmation either by phone, email or text. If done by phone, then voters can provide confirmation that can include confirming their form number. If done by email or text, it can include a picture of their form, and then confirmation that that was their form. Rather than staffers individually calling people, this can be automated by having voters call the number, text the number, or email the address provided to them on their form. A website can even be created with a database of those that have voted, and perhaps a link to allow people to confirm their vote was correctly registered. For people without computers, a site can include a means to access the database over the phone with some confirmation information. These types of systems are used extensively by banks and other sites that need security, so I think they are mature enough to use. We could even use such a site for people to confirm their vote on the day of the election.

Even if the news organizations like Fox and Newsmax are backing down, fortunately for us (if you like to be entertained by absolute shirt shows) Sidney Powell will not.

But when the grift is this good and easy I guess she can probably bet on a post-defamation judgment GoFundMe to pay off what she is going to owe. There is apparently a bottomless pit of rubes with money to "keep fighting" or whatever.

The swiftness and specificity with which Fox News retracted their claims in response to Smartmatic's demand suggested to me that they had really well-paid lawyers telling them Smartmatic's impending civil lawsuit was about to bury them. I don't claim to know much about defamation / libel suits, but I don't think Sidney Powell taking the a page out of the Alex Jones - Sandy Hook playbook is going to end any better for her than it has for Jones. And every dollar those Q/Powell/Flynn followers spend funding her crappy legal defense team is a dollar they can't spend funding fringe R political campaigns or destructive orgs like the NRA. Much rather them spending energy and cash self-destructing than destroying the country. They don't seem to understand the difference anyway.

Newsmax is now bravely complying with the demands of Dominion's lawyers to avoid a defamation lawsuit.

I wasn't able to listen to this until now. Was too busy at work. Did not disappoint.

With the heavy NYC accent, it made me think of My Cousin Vinny. To do a paraphrase...

    Checkmate Libruls!

Is he related to the Bartman who ruined the Cubs chance to go to the World Series like 15 years ago by reaching for a foul ball? Even if not, that's a last name that's obviously cursed.

I saw where that reporter from Axios (IIRC) said that people tell him that Trump is listening the most to Powell right now. And no, that can’t be good.

There is going to be some real violence on January 6th. And Trump is basically sponsoring it by telling people to shoe up in DC on 1/6 for a "protest." People on Twitter are encouraging those who can't make it to DC to protest at their own state capitol. It's already boiling over in Oregon with the alt right getting violent in Salem yesterday. They apparently aren't too sure how to protest or what they're even protesting. I'm going to link a video from an independent journalist (I use that term lightly) who reports on protests regardless of the cause of the protesters. You should go read her thread that she was live tweeting. I read it yesterday and it was pretty funny.

    This thread? (Some NSFW language)

    Some of my favorite bits:
Someone suggests we arrest everyone inside. The senator tells the people to vote the Dems out

Telling people who believe the election was rigged to vote is certainly an interesting choice It's going over about as well as you'd expect

    https://twitter.com/LauraJedeed

Chandler Pappas takes the megaphone as the senator disappears somewhere. "This is America! No one tells us what we can and cannot do!" "Get a rope!!" Someone shouts

The senator is back. "This won't change things!" He says "Easy to say that when we pay your salary!!"
    "Hey, he's on our side!!"
    "No he isn't!"

Someone yells that we need to burn the Back the Blue flags. Others call the cops Nazis and Brownshirts Confused about what rally I'm at

I keep reading it, but so far no mention of the police in full riot gear, indiscriminately firing rubber bullets or clubbing people and arresting them. At one point there was an announcement "please leave. thank you"
Maybe they were all allowed to peacefully leave because they were folks of a light complexion

Man they just can’t decide can they. Police are good guys, now the pigs are the enemy.

I’m curious to see once Trump is out if he continues this, and if he does how long he’s able to get away with inciting riots essentially

Yeah, they got the kid gloves treatment for sure. They were definitely in riot gear and had armoerd vehicles there too though. They did get maced a few times. I have a feeling that they aren't going to get the kid gloves treatment on January 6 in DC or state capitols around the country though. And they shouldn't. All summer during the protests after George Floyd got murdered, the Black people would call for the "White Wall" when the cops would start getting violent and white people would go to the front and the violence would be immediately tempered. When it's all white people and they start getting violent with police, I hope they get treated just like the Black BLM protesters were.
