There is a lot of push-back from Trump on voting by mail, but most states allow it, and 1/3 allow it without any excuse. His rationale is that it will lead to vast fraud, but of course that isn't his real reason. His real reason is that he thinks it will be worse for conservatives, but studies have shown that states that have instituted much broader voting by mail haven't had any statistical changes in party voting.

Although, normally voting by mail doesn't affect party votes, I bet it might this year if we have another resurgence of Covid, because I think the right is much more apt to discount the virus than the left. I know that is why Trump is against it.

Whether you're left or right wing, expanding mail in votes is the right thing to do to reduce the likelihood of spreading the virus, to expand voter participation, and to make it easier for those that do show up to stay distant. It will also allow any people with susceptibilities to remain safer. I think voting by mail could be made extremely secure by having people vote using traditional postal mail, coupled with requiring a confirmation either by phone, email or text. If done by phone, then voters can provide confirmation that can include confirming their form number. If done by email or text, it can include a picture of their form, and then confirmation that that was their form. Rather than staffers individually calling people, this can be automated by having voters call the number, text the number, or email the address provided to them on their form. A website can even be created with a database of those that have voted, and perhaps a link to allow people to confirm their vote was correctly registered. For people without computers, a site can include a means to access the database over the phone with some confirmation information. These types of systems are used extensively by banks and other sites that need security, so I think they are mature enough to use. We could even use such a site for people to confirm their vote on the day of the election.

If they continue to run Beto against him, he'll be Senator for life.
Beto is done in Texas...his ill conceived "I'm gonna take your AR-15" remark was an act of political suicide for anyone seeking a statewide win in Texas. To be honest, I don't know what the hell he was thinking, but it showed that he lacked the intelligence to make it to DC as a Democrat.

He was insanely popular too until he made that idiotic remark. He screwed up and thought he was part of the MAGA cult where you can say the quiet part out loud and actually get more popular. I think someone like Beto can become a moderate Democrat rock star like he did and beat Cruz since it's so easy to show how much of a arse and fraud Cruz really is - and insulting someone who's such an easy target is winning politics in Texas.

Someone like Beto...yes, Beto himself, not anymore. I never became a fan of his...TBH he came off as a bootleg wannabe Obama, I just cant stand how he bobs his head when he talks...it irks me.

Anyway, Beating Cruz should be easy, you just have to play a little dirty, hit him on his manliness, how he let trump disrespect his wife/father and how even after all of that became a first string bootlicker. But whoever comes next for Cruz, can't have that gun grabbing stink on him/her. Run centrist and hit him personally, that's how you beat Cruz in Texas IMO.

Yea Beto is done. He isn’t winning anywhere that’s not already leaning blue after that gun comment.

I understand his emotion behind making that comment, but it tanked his political career.

I agree with all of you saying he's done in any race where he has to run state-wide. I think he could still win in Texas if he runs for a congressional seat in a district that isn't ridiculously gerrymandered (if there are any of those left).

I think there's one thing that needs to be done nationwide - well, two things. First thing being completing the census that Trump shut down so we can get an accurate count. Second thing is re-drawing the district maps in all 50 states so nobody can basically have a seat in the House until the day they die or retire after getting elected. I really want to see how Steve Scalise would fare if he had to run in a district that isn't created to benefit Republicans.

So it sounds like Senator-Elect Tommy Tuberville (JFC 2020) is going to endorse challenge to the electoral college vote on January 6 and force the GOP Senators, in McConnell's nightmare, to go on the record as either for democratic elections or for Donald Trump.

For those who tend to be nervous about these things, we already know that the Romney, Murkowski, Collins, Sasse etc. types are going to vote against this so it's dead in the water. Locally I think Cassidy votes against it because he doesn't face re-election for six years while Kennedy will vote for it.

He’s truly stupid. All he has to do is wait until after the inauguration:

Lmao. A certain family member texted me asking if there would be 2 Presidents when Biden is sworn in. I lol'd and told him no. But it's pretty obvious he's reading some far right conspiracy theory stuff. :covri:

Rand Paul may get on the stupid train too.

So it looks like this is going to happen on January 6th. Tommy Figgin Tuberville is going to be the Senator to object to Biden/Harris being legitimized as the winners of the election. I guess he didn't hear McConnell when he urged GOP senators not to do exactly what Tuberville is doing. I guess Tommy doesn't care about listening to the ranking GOP Senator. Not exactly how I'd approach kicking off my career as a Senator, but then again, he'll probably have every redneck in Alabammer and throughout the nation thinking he's doing something valiant.

Here's a link I didn't bother reading. I heard it on the teevee.

I thought when I read up on this, it will just, at most, delay things by 2-3 hours.

He's not the only one. Georgia Peach Barbie is hinting the same...

i don’t think any of the senators will actually do it. Tuberville is already walking it back. Mitch will get ahold of them and explain to them how things work. The last thing almost all of these senators want is to have to make a choice between America and Trump. Excepting a few real nut jobs, like Paul.
