There is a lot of push-back from Trump on voting by mail, but most states allow it, and 1/3 allow it without any excuse. His rationale is that it will lead to vast fraud, but of course that isn't his real reason. His real reason is that he thinks it will be worse for conservatives, but studies have shown that states that have instituted much broader voting by mail haven't had any statistical changes in party voting.

Although, normally voting by mail doesn't affect party votes, I bet it might this year if we have another resurgence of Covid, because I think the right is much more apt to discount the virus than the left. I know that is why Trump is against it.

Whether you're left or right wing, expanding mail in votes is the right thing to do to reduce the likelihood of spreading the virus, to expand voter participation, and to make it easier for those that do show up to stay distant. It will also allow any people with susceptibilities to remain safer. I think voting by mail could be made extremely secure by having people vote using traditional postal mail, coupled with requiring a confirmation either by phone, email or text. If done by phone, then voters can provide confirmation that can include confirming their form number. If done by email or text, it can include a picture of their form, and then confirmation that that was their form. Rather than staffers individually calling people, this can be automated by having voters call the number, text the number, or email the address provided to them on their form. A website can even be created with a database of those that have voted, and perhaps a link to allow people to confirm their vote was correctly registered. For people without computers, a site can include a means to access the database over the phone with some confirmation information. These types of systems are used extensively by banks and other sites that need security, so I think they are mature enough to use. We could even use such a site for people to confirm their vote on the day of the election.

He apparently received $266,400 from the Liberty Center for God and Country. I'd sue 'em all, as quickly as possible, before whatever is left of that cash disappears.

Also, Aguirre held himself out as a private investigator. Why'd they pay him like he was a friggin hit man?

How do you get in on this kind of $$$, I know a black dude in Slidell that may or may not have info on ACORN's efforts to multiply the black vote in Cross Gates.

(I await someone to chime in with a "both sides" remark)

A former Houston police captain has been arrested after running a man off the road and holding him at gunpoint in an attempt to prove his 2020 election conspiracy theories.

The incident occurred in Harris County, Texas on Tuesday when Mark Anthony Aguirre, 63, ran his SUV into the back of a truck he suspected of hiding hundreds of thousands of fraudulent ballots. When the technician pulled off the road and left his truck, Mr Aguirre allegedly pointed a handgun at the man, forced him to the ground, and put a knee on his back.

Another suspect who police have not identified took the truck to a nearby parking lot. Police arrived at the scene and arrested Mr Aguirre. The truck was filled with air conditioning parts, as the driver was a repairman.

Mr Aguirre told police he carried out the action on behalf of a group of private citizens called "Liberty Centre."

Tell "your guy" to take that info to The Kraken, I'm sure she will listen and maybe you "your guy" will get paid.

    Liberty Center either

    (1) didn't bother to google search Aguirre's name;
    OR
    (2) did google him, learning that he was the mastermind behind -- I can't stress this enough -- a *botched drag racing bust called Operation ERACER that resulted in the wrongful arrest of every person who happened to be on the block*

then says "yes let's pay this guy A QUARTER OF A MILLION DOLLARS"

A QUARTER OF A MILLION DOLLARS, $250,000.00!!!, 1 Lambo Huracan Performante, for what!?!?!? I, I mean my guy, can make up some crap without having any negative info floating around the web to discredit me, I mean him. I can get my wife or some woman on video to speak w/ her heavy Caribbean accent about illegally voting as a noncitizen, I've got some boxes in my garage w/ some old papers in it to pretend that they're discarded trump ballots, or whatever who's paying me...him wants them to be.

This is freaking nuts...This has all of the makings of a pyramid scheme, no tangible product, a boatload of money, and a figurehead at the top. I mean, there is some serious, no kidding, life changing money going around to knowingly perpetrate a fraud and 40% of the country is absolutely cool with it.

Crazy part about all of this, is that these are the same people crowdsourcing a scam with the intent of flipping a legal election so that a "rich" guy can stay in the White House that'll turn around and tell a poor minority to pull up their bootstraps. Absolutely Bananas.

    This is just amazing.

Ted Cruz, the man who was willing to make oral arguments in a lawsuit that was 100% bogus, containing claims that had been laughed out of court over and over, that every state agency involved (including many led by Republicans) had said were 100% false....merely to please Donald Trump.....

Is saying that the other side is a totalitarian cult.

It's a totalitarian cult, says Ted Cruz, while taking a break from licking the boots of the man who publicly insulted his wife and father.

People like him should be expelled from Congress for being too stupid to hold, what was once, a prestigious position. He represents the dumbing down of the Senate to the House level of stupid.

Cruz isn't stupid. He knows exactly what he is doing. He is setting himself up as the "conservative" candidate for the Republicans in 2024. He saw that Trump rode the far right to the presidency and believes that he can do the same. Honestly, he is a real danger because he is willing to "Trump it up" but is smarter than Trump.

If I had plans on running as a Republican, I would start the "Cruz is a wimp" crusade for his failure to defend his wife and father. The far right loves their Rambo imagery, and if you can sell him as a smart wimp, he will lose support with the MAGA crowd.

It's stupid to foster such anti-democratic rhetoric in a country that founded on democratic principles, the end result of that sort of rhetoric is the inevitable end of democracy. Yes, he is highly educated, but his endgame is to sow discord between Americans and to undermine democracy and that is stupid.

The smart thing to do would be for the Republican leaders admit that their 5 decades long plan to turn Americans against each other was completely short sighted. Their demonization of Democrats has not diminished the Democratic party, it has continued to grow in numbers and their policies are being embraced by tens of millions around this country. They should stop labeling EVERY SINGLE DEMOCRATIC CANIDATE as the "MOST RADICAL SOCIALIST EVAH!!!" and start debating actual policy agendas instead of the latest boogeyman.

The reason that will fail is because of your last sentence. He's smarter than Trump (he also actually wants to get elected). Those two things will prevent him from saying things that Trump would say, and act the way that Trump would act.

The end result will be that Trump's cult will see right through it as an act, and legitimate republicans will see him for what he is. He ends up losing on both sides.

    Texas keeps reelecting him.

Not for much longer I suspect. Texas demographics are changing and I think a lot of those people moving to Texas, particularly to Austin, are going to change the political landscape there. Time will tell I guess. I can't stand Cruz. I really, really hope he doesn't run.

But...I said the same thing about Trump and look what happened. :covri:

If they continue to run Beto against him, he'll be Senator for life.
