Trump is nuts, but once again I don't think he's crazy enough to give Jr. a high position. There would be a
lot of backlash from Republicans if he did.

Really? After a g-d insurrection, this would be the line?

None of those GOP cowards would do anything to stop Trump. We depend on Trump not wanting to have someone like RFK, Jr. upstage him.

I am counting on Trump not wanting to put someone in charge who “thinks he knows more” than Trump.

And I feel like throwing up now. 🤮

People keep claiming something will be the line and nothing ever is. Cult leaders don't have lines. Their followers just strap on the Nikes when they tell them the comet is coming.

Seems about right! No Subject Matter Experts desired or required.
OK, I have to amend that statement! I made a snapped judgement because he's a FL Congressman. Waltz does, in fact, have some credentials but they are mostly defense related as he worked in the Pentagon under Rumsfeld and Gates before he was elected to congress. I would prefer those credentials come from the State side of the house than Defense.

Rubio being considered for State. And the answer to the poster’s question is no.

Even though Val Demings was a sitting congressman and a former police chief, she came up empty against him in '22. Thanks to Gillum and DeSantis, Florida is lost.

I didn’t remember this - maybe Chuck can elaborate? Why was Obama rejected by the court back then?

It was really more about what was a recess rather than Obama's use of recess appointments - which was (at the time of the decision) less in total count than W and Clinton. But Obama tried to use the recess appointment power during a short congressional break during which the Senate was still holding "pro forma" sessions, which are basically where someone goes in and opens/closes the session so that the Senate isn't said to have been in recess.

The decision otherwise fairly broadly allowed for presidential recess appointments per the law. The decision said that the recess would reasonably have to be at least 10 days and the appointment only lasts until the end of the congressional session. But it held that Obama's appointments hadn't occurred during such a recess.

So the decision also endorsed the use of pro forma sessions to avoid recess . . . and the rules on who can convene a pro forma session and how are minimal, it is easy to do and doesn't require any sort of quorum. In other words, Democrats in the Senate can undercut Trump's use of recess appointment by holding pro forma sessions. They did this during his first administration.
In 2020, Trump threatened to use a vague presidential power to force Congress to adjourn but I don't think it came to that.

Man, how did they get that picture? Little Marco had to move Trump’s lower gut away from his face.

Republicans hate the NIH because of Fauci. Trump and his handlers are likely gauging to response by Republican voters to RFK’s sound bites. Many Republican voters also hate the NIH because of Fauci. I don’t see this as Trump about to ghost RFK. I see it as a trial balloon by the loons of the Republican party.

I think this makes sense if we just forget about the massive corporate lobby that big pharma and adjacent health business have invested in the Republican party. Just like so much of Trump's candidacy, the anti-vax crackpot-health bros and podcasters that love RFK saw an ally in Trump that I don't think is really there. Trump is far more aligned with the business donors than that - and I don't think Trump cares enough about RFK to give him any real power where would be a threat to some pretty significant business concerns in the US health industry. Plus I just have a hunch that RFK is already talking too big for his britches, saying "I'm going to do this" and "I'm going to do that" . . . Trump's thinking "birch, you better recognize - you ain't doing shirt unless I say so."

But can the GOP Senate leadership declare that the Senate is in recess? It would be nice if Dems in the Senate could block him from using recess appointments.

Tuck can go pound rock salt up his azz.
Tucker and all the other rabid MAGA acolytes will probably be disappointed in some of Trump’s appointees. He seems to be relying on standard GOPers rather than the flock of grifters and imbeciles he has attracted.

Rubio and Waltz are not MAGA darlings, I don’t think. Not that I think they rise to the level of Dan Coats, Kelly or Mattis, far from it. But they aren’t complete loons so there’s that.
