Control of the Senate is on the line. Assuming the current numbers will stand on recount, only 1.9% of the vote (90,295 votes) separated Republican incumbent David Perdue from his Democratic challenger, Jon Ossof. The third place Libertarian candidate received 2.3% of the vote (144,566 votes). In the special election, Raphael Warnock led the pack with 32.9% of the vote trailed by incumbent Kelly Loeffler who received 25.9% of the vote. Doug Collins, the other major GOP candidate, finished with 20% of the vote. Various other Democrat candidates finished with a combined 15.5% of the vote. Various other GOP candidates finished with 3.4% and roughly 2% for independent candidates.

Andrew Yang has posted that he will be moving to Georgia to help campaign for Ossof and Warnock.

From what I’ve heard, I believe it white power making the circle with your thumb and forefinger is the P and the three other fingers up meaning a W for white power

Which is weird because most of the pics I've seen with those hand signs, the three extended fingers are pointed down. This is the first one I've seen with then pointed up. But I have no idea what their lingo is. Don't care to know either. :hihi:

expect it to be a few days again.

WHEN DOES THE BALLOT COUNTING START?

The polls are set to close at 7 p.m. EST on Election Day, and that's when ballot counting can begin. Absentee ballots must be received by the close of polls to be counted. Military and overseas ballots postmarked by Tuesday and received by Friday will be counted, and absentee voters also have until Friday to fix any problems so their votes can be counted.
No ballots, including absentee ballots received in advance of Election Day, can be counted until the polls close. But a state election board rule requires county election officials to begin processing absentee ballots — verifying signatures on the outer envelope, opening the envelopes and scanning the ballots — before Election Day. That should speed things up on election night. Still, some absentee ballots received by mail or in drop boxes up until 7 p.m. on Election Day will still need to be processed.

WILL WE KNOW THE WINNER ON ELECTION NIGHT?

Just like in November, it's very possible Americans will go to bed without knowing who won. All indicators point to the likelihood of very tight margins in both races.
Media organizations, including The Associated Press, often declare winners on election night based on the results that are in, voter surveys and other political data.
But in a close race, more of the vote may need to be counted before the AP can call a winner.

THE LEAD MAY VERY WELL SHIFT AS VOTES ARE COUNTED

In a close contest, look for the Republican candidate to jump out to an early lead. That due to two factors: First, Republican areas of the state usually report their results first. Second, Republican voters have been more likely to vote in person, either on Election Day or during the early voting period. Many counties release those in-person results first.
Meanwhile, heavily Democratic counties, including Fulton, DeKalb and Chatham counties, historically take longer to count votes. Democratic candidates could also make late surges because of late-counted mail ballots, which heavily favored Ossoff and Warnock, as well as Joe Biden, in November.

Perdue is out performing some key demographics in the exit polls compared to November. Not looking good for the Dems. Only if turnout is bad in red counties will the Dems have a chance.

I haven’t read the entire thread so guessing this has been addressed- but what will the makeup of the Senate be if one Democrat wins in GA and one Republicrat wins? ie is that good for the incoming Biden Admin, or just as bad as if both Republicans win ?

McConnell is still the majority leader so it's bad for Democrats and bad for America. Only both seats going Democrat matter.

...and I'm usually a fan of divided government, but Mitch McConnell is just a horrendous individual who shouldn't be allowed to hold the office of dog catcher, much less Senate Majority Leader.
McConnell has done to the Senate what Gingrich did to the House and it has had a truly devastating effect to our country. The Senate was supposed to be composed of the most rational and smartest of all of us, now it's filling up with individuals that are barely suited to be in the House.

    Thanks.

Also, i wonder what the percentage will wind up being of voters in GA who vote for , say, Perdue and Warnock.. or Loeffiler AND Ossoff... i gotta think that percentage would be in the like 2-3% range, if even that high.

Yea, looking at the results right now, I don’t think the Dems ran it up far enough in the early vote. Pretty sure both Republicans are going to overtake them.

Well, I think that's a whole other thread, but I would point to two things. One, the Senate was always steeped in tradition and decorum and a deliberate, methodical legislative process where both sides of the aisle have robust voices in crafting policy. It's always been a place of building consensus.

All of that has been tossed aside in favor of partisan petty politics. The poisonous tribalism of the House is quite apparent in the Senate.

The other issue is look who states are electing to Senate seats now. Tommy Tuberville is the latest example of that. I also think the President is entirely too powerful now and what's happening is the parties are trying to consolidate power in their respective bases and it's no longer a meeting of the minds. It's a much more raw and damaging kind of power, and it's maybe somewhat reflecting where our society is heading as a whole. It's not looking pretty.

Which is disappointing to me. I was hoping the Trumpers were crazy enough to stay home...but I don't think that many people took that whole mess seriously. More of a sideshow than anything else. The Republican party needs a reckoning, and I thought this would be the one, but I guess not. Meh.

I guess the NYT needle is leaning dem in both races. Dems are out performing absentee numbers from Biden and what Ossof had the first time.
it will be close to say the least. Also, it looks like there won’t be a split on who wins either. They are super close in results for both candidates.
