Seems we've gotten this thing pretty stable, the addons are all in place and all of the server tweaks are in, so we plan to officially launch this site next Tuesday, November 12th (EDIT to Wednesday, November 13th). In the meantime, I am open to any suggestions that you might have regarding features. If the suggestions make sense, are do-able and not overly complex I can see what I can do.

StudioSaint suggested on the other site that we add a board for those that decline to declare affiliation (conservative/moderate/liberal) and I would like to hear your thoughts on that. If you like the idea... any suggestions on what we should name that board?

My initial reaction to his suggestion was that the MCB should cover that, but then I remembered that not everyone will be suited for this MCB board due to the rather strict behavioral rules on this board... and the Mud Pit will obviously not be moderated enough. I thought that most of those that declined to commit as either conservatives or liberals would declare as moderates, but that doesn't seem to be the case, so I am open to the idea.

Well...actually...looking at it, it doesn't look like Chrome is happy with the cert @Andrus

Firefox is happy, so I never noticed it. Offhand I'd guess some images aren't coming from HTTPS.

Apparently, some of the image content on some of the pages is not coming from https sources. Probably those attached to the RSS news feeds. Chrome doesn't like that. I don't like Chrome, so we're even.

My issue happened once again at work. It gives me the "this website isn't safe" message, and when I click the advanced then "take me anyway" link, our internet filters kick in with this:

    URL: madaboutpolitics.com
    URL Categories: Non-Managed
    Policy: Policy=default
    User: auto_bypass
    User's IP: 10.19.7.144
    Timestamp: Mon Jan 27 13:36:02 2020
    Acceptable Use Policy
The site you have requested has been blocked because it does not comply with the filtering requirements as described by the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA).

Again, I know I most likely should just chalk it up to not using it at work, but in general I only pop on during lunch break times. This is using Google Chrome with whatever the most recent updates are. The crazy thing is, I might be able to go in tomorrow and jump on here just fine...go a few weeks and then be right back to this warning for a few days.

The next time you have that problem look up at the address bar and make note of the URL. My guess is it’s going to be the https://IP_address or https://hostname of your office’s web filtering proxy.

For whatever reason, the web filter has decided the MAP site doesn’t pass whatever web policies are in place so the web filter redirects your web browser to itself to display the message you see.

As far as why it seems to happen randomly, someone at your company could be dinking around with the web filtering policies, or the web filter is scanning the site before it forwards it to you and something it see’s doesn’t pass the filtering policy. Could be something related to the newsfeed. Or maybe it see’s Joe posting so it blocks it.

You know, we do have blocks on almost all social media. If someone posts a link to Facebook or Twitter though, it usually just leaves a blank space and says it can't load it. However, with the front page feed, you could be right that it's linked somehow.

When you ignore someone, in threads they post in, posts they make show up as 'You are ignoring content by this member. Show ignored content.' If they're the most recent poster in a thread, in the index it shows in the forum index as 'Ignored member'. That's all good. They're ignored, but you can still see what they say on a case-by-case basis if you really want to (e.g. if someone else has replied and you want context, or if you want to check whether they've stopped repeating themselves over and over again (I mean, hypothetically speaking, it's not like anyone here does that 🤨 )).

But this behaviour changes with threads they start. The threads don't show up in the index for the forum at all. They do show up at the top level (if its the thread most recently commented in), and under "What's new -> Latest activity', but otherwise they're invisible.

Additionally, if you click through to the thread (either from the top level index or from Latest activity), then the first post is completely hidden, there's no option to 'show ignored content'.

This isn't good because it means that, unless you happen to see the thread in the top level index or in latest activity, you don't know it exists at all, which means you miss posts from people you're not ignoring, and if you do happen to see it there and click through, you can't choose to see the context of the first post at all.

So ideally threads ignored members start would be treated the same as threads they comment in. They show up, as posted by 'Ignored member', with the first post showing as 'You are ignoring content by this member. Show ignored content.' like other posts they make.

Ok Rob... go into your userCP and click on "ignoring". Check out the ignore options. You should see what is in the screen shot below. My Coder guy created an add on that does the following:

    • Last Poster update: The last post in forum and thread views will update to the next non-ignored user
    • Blocked users can't see the blocker's profile
    • Permissions for who can use 2-Way Ignore/Block
    • Compatible with (ignored users won't appear in):
      • Last Poster Info: In Threads / Forums
      • Quoted content
      • Search
      • Watched Content
      • News Feed
      • Conversation system
      • Alerts system
      • Reactions system
      • New Posts / New Threads Widgets
      • Our (AJAX) Advanced Forum Stats add-on
    • Individual User Options:
      • 1. "Remove ignored content" (Default: Enabled)
        • If checked, the content from users that you ignore will be completely removed.
        • If un-checked, the content from users that you ignore will be hidden with a message indicating the user is ignored and an option to show the content.
      • 2. "Enable 2-way ignore" (Default: Enabled)
        • If checked, the users that you ignore won't be able to see your content at all. (Note: User must have permission to use 2-way ignore to see this option)

I've been posting and getting responses on this thread.

Now, the thread is not listed on the MCB, but it appears people are still responding to my posts.

Official timeout, play is under review?

I see the thread listed. Anyone else not seeing it? Just wondering if there could be a bug in the new ignore addon.

I don't have anybody on Ignore that I know of.
I can't see the thread. When I click on the Alerts button and click a link to somebody that responded to it, then I go to the thread.
But, on the thread, the OP's post doesn't appear at the top and it doesn't even appear on the first page of the thread.
When I go to the first page of the thread, the first post I saw was Post #3.
So, I went to the Ignore options and unchecked both the boxes.
I still don't see the thread.

When I go to the thread by using the links in my Alerts, then go to the first page, the first post I see is #3, not the OP and the OP's post doesn't appear at the top of the other pages either.

Perhaps the OP has opted for Enable 2-way ignore, so I can't see his content at all, not even a whole thread that I was already posting in?

I logged out. The thread appeared.
I logged back in. The thread is gone.
So it seems to be tied to my screen name.
Maybe I got added to ignore and make posts invisible after I posted in the thread yesterday?

If the person that started the thread has you on his/her ignore list, and his/her 2-way ignore checkbox is checked, then you won't be able to see that person's content, and that person won't be able to see yours. I think the coder set the default on the two way ignore to "checked".

So in this case if you and @Joe Okc are on @EmBeeFiveOhFour 's ignore list (likely), and his 2-way ignore checkbox is checked (likely) you won't be able to either see or participate in any threads that he started.

    Yep, that explains it.

I'm not blocked from the thread. Since I posted in it before the ignore, I still have the alerts from people who responded to my posts.

I think I can even post in the thread if I so choose. I just can't see it in the initial view of the forum.

The thought occurs to me that a 2-way ignore checkbox default that prevents people from seeing other people's content without their knowledge has the potential to create a parallel board within a board. Not a desirable thing, IMHO.

Two-way ignore is a bit of a misnomer. I never chose to ignore the person who chose to ignore me.

This works fine, although it's a little clunky on the UI side.

Say I always want to see all threads, whether they were started by someone I'm ignoring or not (which makes sense: I might want to ignore their content in the thread they started, that doesn't mean I want to ignore everyone's content in that thread). On the forum index, for example, I have to scroll down to the bottom to hit 'show ignored content', then scroll back up to see the full list of threads, and I have to do that every time.

So ideally there would be something like an 'Always show threads' option under ignoring, that always displays the threads in the index whether the OP is ignored or not.

And with regard to @Dadsdream's comments, I'd also suggest tweaking '2-way ignore' so it only hides posts and not threads.

I can see an argument both ways, but it creates the situation where if a user starts the thread for a common topic (say, an election tracker), then any user they're ignoring won't be able to see it which blocks them from not only seeing the ignoring user's content, but from seeing the entire topic.

The thread in question reappeared a few days ago for me. Either I got un-ignored or something got tweaked.

can we get the pinned first post shown on every page, like how saintsreport forum is set up? unless theres an option to turn that on in the settings?
