This organisation and its reach is seriously scary. When the head of the New York Police Department's second-largest police union openly shows his support of this "organisation" then something is seriously wrong!

The head of the New York Police Department's second-largest police union gave a television interview Friday afternoon while sitting in front of a mug emblazoned with QAnon imagery and slogans.

The mug behind Mullins featured the word "QANON" and the hashtag #WWG1WGA, which stands for "where we go one, we go all," a popular slogan among QAnon supporters. At the center of the mug was a large letter Q, which refers to a supposed government insider who, according to QAnon supporters, posts cryptic clues on the Internet about the "deep state."

More than a year ago, the FBI reportedly assessed that QAnon was a dangerous movement that was likely to inspire its most extreme members to commit violent acts of domestic terrorism.

In recent weeks, QAnon supporters have been posting videos of themselves reciting an oath and repeating the "where we go one, we go all" catchphrase that is seen on the mug. They say they are preparing "digital soldiers" for an apocalyptic reckoning, when thousands of "deep state" pedophiles will be arrested and prosecuted at military courts at Guantanamo Bay.

So by simple math, we have 3-5 on this board who believe some of what the QAnon folk believe. That seems... high

I think it is important to understand what they mean by partially true. Especially in the context of the question

for example, I would believe some here or “regular” Trump voters might believe In the Deep State; as dubious as that is.

but I really can’t (don’t want to?) believe that there are members here that think Hillary runs a child sex trafficking and cannibalism ring being fought by Trump and Mueller in secrecy. Certainly that is a bridge too far. Right?
No, all that stuff seems plausible. But if you throw in Satanism, that might be a bridge too far.

I would have thought reading comprehension would be a strength for you but apparently it's not. I said:

The left has some elements that are similar although probably not as crazy as QAnon.

    Confusingly-worded? 😆 Okay dude.
Come on, bro. There is no leftist equivalent to QAnon. Not even close. You can't even make that argument using your sketchy Twitter sources.

    It’s a cult, plainly

I hope that tweet was written with a lot sarcasm because, yeah. That is messed up.

Edit: I clicked and read the comments. RobtheDad had an interesting reply, no? Glass rocks and houses and all of that.

    It all good Farb.

I know you are a good guy. I wouldn’t ever think that about you. You are way too smartfor that junk.

And that was my illmade point. By asking that then they put an article together that says 30% of a Republicans believe in QAnon. Which is ridiculous. 30% might believe in the Deep State stuff- and again there is an argument there (even if I think it is dubious).

    it’s just bad reporting

He is. I doubt anyone that's a regular participant here actually believes the full boat of Q crud, but man there are a whole lot of otherwise reasonable and intelligent people I know who really, really do believe it.

You could see it every single day last week when all the posts about that sex trafficking started up. And, just like a light was switched in Russia, all of a sudden every right-winger I know was posting about Trump and human trafficking.

The QAnon people are idiots and I know a few people I work with that are believers. They are smart people so it's concerning that they fall for that crap. They get all their news from far right sources so it's not surprising they fell for it.

The left has some elements that are similar although probably not as crazy as QAnon.

67 percent of Democrats believe it is "definitely true" or "probably true" that "Russia tampered with vote tallies in order to get Donald Trump elected." There is no evidence that Russia tampered with vote tallies.

You're going to need to point me to the place where it says 67%.

I'd say not really, no. You can't consider the action without considering the context. Cultists shunning non-members of the cult and non-cultists shunning members of the cult aren't really equivalent. The only thing they have in common is that someone is shunning someone else, but the reasons for doing so are typically very different.

In the former case, cultists are shunning the sane people in order to preserve their delusion, as in that quote. This isn't unusual in cults, Scientology, for example, is infamous for it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disconnection_(Scientology)

Whereas reasonable people aren't shunning cultists to preserve their delusions because, by definition, they're not deluded in the first place. So similar action, but different reasons, different thing.

(There can be, naturally, the question of who is deluded and who isn't, but in this particular instance, with how far out there and how repeatedly wrong the QAnon stuff is, there isn't.)

How do you think ideology or policy positions, however "crazy or radical" they may be, are in any way analogous to believing in a made up conspiracy theory?
Does believing Trump was a Russian agent qualify for the type of conspiracy theory you are talking about?

We won't find that out until after he's out of office. Trump being a russian agent is someone in between UFO's and Loch Ness monster....and we have proof that UFO's are real so.....

You have to agree it sounds much more believable than the Q stuff by a mile.

I can't see how anyone can believe the man is some sort of superhero saving the world from cannibals and child porn when he doesn't even pay his contractors without getting the lawyers involved.

I didn’t read the comments, so you need to explain what you mean.

The poll you’re citing was in November 2018, before Mueller’s report was out. Dems appear to have been wrong in believing Russia altered vote tallies. Russia did hack voter registrations and generally demonstrate that they could’ve altered votes, but there’s been no evidence they actually did it. The fact remains that it was bizarre for the Russians to demonstrate the capability to hack and alter votes without doing it, especially given that they chose to interfere in less direct ways. So it wasn’t illogical to think they would’ve altered votes since they clearly had the opportunity to do it.

But since we’re discussing this poll, let’s check the other two questions it asked about Russian interference:

    4C17C190-A44C-4DE4-AC87-20F0CA47E9D8.jpeg

Russia did create fake news stories to try to help Trump win. 73% of Republicans wrongly believed they didn’t. 87% of Democrats correctly believed they did.

Russia did hack Democrats’ emails to try to help Trump win. 74% of Republicans wrongly believed they didn’t. 87% of Democrats correctly believed they did.

This is a misleading poll to cite in support of what you’re claiming people believe presently, because it actually reflects beliefs of two sides nearly two years ago during an incomplete investigation. But if it did reflect present tense beliefs (well, either way, really), it makes Republicans look worse than Dems. I mean, 68% of Rs in that poll thought George Soros, the nemesis of Q, was funding the immigrant caravan (the widespread fear of the caravan is itself a separate funny thing). 56% thought that there were millions of illegal votes cast in the election. Seriously:

Yeah, I’m gonna go ahead and say this poll is pretty weak evidence for the claim that Dems are extremist or out of touch with reality. I don’t disagree that there are leftists that believe stupid conspiracy theories. This just ain’t proof of that.

I don't know many - check that, ANY - Democrats who think Trump was a Russian agent.

I know many Democrats, myself included, who think the Russians actively tried to help Trump and that his campaign welcomed it. And there is mountains of evidence to support both those propositions. Unlike QAnon.

    So try again.
