The CPD announced this morning that a "virtual" debate would be preferred for the next squaring off between Trump and Biden, driven by Covid concerns. Trump quickly denounced the idea and said he wouldn't participate. There is a history of this kind of debate - Nixon and Kennedy debated from separate locations in 1960, and Reagan and RFK had a remote/virtual debate in 1967.

    competing town halls.

I won't lie, if I watch either, I'll watch the Trump one. He has more to gain or lose.

I'mma flip all my devices over to the Biden town hall and probably not watch any of it... But if Biden beats Trump in his precious ratings that'd be cool with me.

It’s stupid, and feels like NBC is doing this to give Trump a boost in publicity. They could have picked any time, any day, but they chose that day and time? This just smacks of a Trump campaign demand, and makes NBC look like a tool. NBC is kind of the reason we ended up with a failed businessman in this position he‘s not qualified for to begin with.

It's about ratings. We all know NBC has zero love for Trump, but they want to win the ratings war, so if Trump gets them there, they're more than happy to do it.

No offense, Dave, but don’t forget that Trump has/had a good relationship with NBC for years due to his reality show. He pulled some strings with the executives, imo.

I realize that, but, he didn't leave The Apprentice on good terms iirc. He basically said the show was doomed to fail after he left and he burned any bridges he had with the company. Also, NBC has been rather slanted against him ever since he started his 2016 campaign. It's obvious they don't like him and that's been pretty clear. It's strictly a ratings gambit imo.

Not sure that rationale entirely holds. It's an argument for hosting a town hall for him, sure, but from a ratings point of view, surely it's an argument against holding one at the same time as Biden's; clearly there's an audience that would watch both if they weren't on at the same time.

Ordinarily, I'd agree with you. But this isn't exactly an ordinary election cycle or town hall. Are there people who'd want to watch both? Sure, but I also think there are people who are going to tune in to see what crazy thing Trump will say next. And I suspect NBC was approached after it was determined that there would be no formal debate and they were not going to turn that down. I don't think the date/time was up to NBC. But, they're still gonna get good enough ratings to justify it compared to anything else they'd run at that time.

I could be completely wrong though. Just what makes sense to me.

Yes, he did the Apprentice. He has steadfastly stood by Trump, refusing to release any of the Apprentice outtakes which purportedly would show Trump using racist, sexist language.

I 100% believe if not for "The Apprentice" and its spinoffs, Trump would not be President right now. That said, the cake is baked at this point, and if Trump is losing NBC can't save him now.

    That's perfectly stated.

NBC does this and Trumps response is to drag NBC all over Twitter.

I know what Biden’s all about...so I’m tuning into the Trump town hall for the lulz.
