Now is not the time to talk about gun control (1 Viewer)

Let me quote one of my favorite authors,

Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge (Asimov)
No matter what is said, an opinion remains just that—an opinion. It holds no real weight unless it is grounded in facts. This is one of the deep-rooted problems in our society today. People are increasingly living in "alternate realities," where opinions are valued more than proven facts, distorting everything. A hurricane doesn't change its path because someone draws a line on a map with a marker. A disease cannot be cured by injecting bleach, no matter how many times it’s claimed. And the forest fires and fish dying in overheated oceans won’t simply disappear because someone insists that climate change is a hoax.

"You think" is an opinion, and when it isn’t based on actual facts, it becomes a real problem. It reflects a blatant disregard for reality, allowing falsehoods to thrive. Facts matter, and ignoring them has real and often devastating consequences.
You are barking up the wrong tree.

Sorry, I was unaware ONLY Republicans said that. Kind of hard to dispute the facts that when prayers were said in school, there was far less school violence. And before someone jumps on it, NO, I am not suggesting we have prayers in school again.

There were less school shootings in the 1970s when led Zeppelin was the most popular band in the world. We would have less school shootings today if we forced every child to listen to led Zeppelin.

It is indisputable there were less school shootings in the 70s. I don't know anyone arguing that.

I'm also not arguing that. I literally said in my post that there were less school shootings in the 1970s. Do you even understand what I'm saying?

The reason there were less school shootings in the 1970s is because led Zeppelin was so popular. We should force everyone to listen to led Zeppelin now to decrease the school shootings.

So just randomly stating a fact no one has disputed. eh?

Why don't you respond to my entire post instead of just that one part?

There's a point that I'm making that seems to be going directly over your head. I have to think you're being obtuse on purpose because I'm making it painfully obvious what I'm trying to say.

It seemed the only part that made any sense at all.

"The reason there were less school shootings in the 1970s is because led Zeppelin was so popular. We should force everyone to listen to led Zeppelin now to decrease the school shootings."

That doesn't make sense. You provide nothing to support your claim.

It makes exactly as much sense as your suggestion that prayer in schools is the reason school shootings were low. That is the point I was making.

If you get to just make up stuff then so do I.

Your "point" is ignorant then, because I never claimed prayer was the reason for less violence back then. READ what I write, not what you "think" I meant.
I have clearly and consistently said that it may be a contributing factor. Do you know what those are?
I don't believe the reason for more school violence can be boiled down to a single reason, as some here seem to think.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah students in as early as kindergarten would be required to learn about firearm safety in the classroom under a bill that passed the state House with overwhelming support Friday.

The Republican-controlled chamber approved the measure in a 59-10 vote and sent it to the Senate, despite concerns from some gun violence prevention advocates that it places an undue burden on children.

Under the proposal, public school students would receive mandatory instruction throughout their K-12 years on how to respond if they encounter a gun. The lessons, which could be presented in a video or by an instructor displaying an actual firearm, would demonstrate best practices for safely handling and storing a gun to prevent accidents.

Elementary age children would learn about gun safety on at least three occasions by the time they reach sixth grade, with the possibility for that instruction to begin in kindergarten, when kids are around five years old.

The bill’s Republican sponsor, Rep. Rex Shipp of Cedar City, said it’s aimed at preventing accidental shootings by and of young children. The lessons, he said, will be age-appropriate for each grade level, with younger students learning to avoid touching a gun and alert an adult immediately.……
