The middle makes the difference once again. Why?

McAuliffe made an error with the school issue to appease the CRT crowd. A costly strategic error.

On another note CNN described Michelle Wu a moderate as the first woman of color to be mayor. The media recruiting minorities.

I don't get how an experienced politician could say something as stupid as "We need fewer white teachers". Saying "We need more diversity among our teachers", means the same thing without feeding into your opponents narrative.

Don't say we have too many white teachers. That is going to piss off some white teachers.

Very dumb comment. I've never liked McAuliffe, going back to his days when he was Clinton's campaign manager in 2008, constantly saying stupid shirt about Obama.

I saw a poll that a pretty big percentage of voters in VA said neither Trump nor Biden influenced their vote. So, I don’t think we should draw too much national inference out of this state race. And which could be why the Democratic strategy of making the election about Trump didn’t work.

I think Terry didn’t run a particularly good campaign. He didn’t combat the lies told about CRT effectively. Youngkin didn’t mind telling those lies and pandering to the fears of people that something radical is being taught to school children (that just doesn’t exist). The media, like usual, gives too much attention to crackpot things like CRT. They acted like it was a legitimate issue, instead of made up fear-mongering. Still, it was up to the Democrats to counter the R lies, and they didn’t do it.

Youngkin also did a good job of keeping Trump away and out of his mouth. If Youngkin now governs like a Trumpist, I don’t think that will go over very well with the people of VA.

The one thing you cannot say is that this is a validation of the appeal of Trump, at least.
CRT may not actually be taught to kids, but a lot of the Democratic Party embraces it. It is turning off some voters. I also think the problems with the Democratic Party in Washington is also contributing. The Democrats are pushing too much spending at once, which seems irresponsible, while Republicans are just about undemocratic power grabs, but too many people don’t recognize that as more dangerous. Republicans are more dangerous in the short term, but Democratic approaches will have long term dangers.

I wouldn't say they are pushing too much spending, but they are doing a terrible job of explaining it.

I think having Weingarten speak was the nail in the coffin for his campaign. He brought in all the big Dem players and he still got destroyed. I think parents especially didn't like the message that 'they are not your kids, they are our kids'.

I hope the Dems keep preaching 1.6, racism and Trump. It is a winning recipe for the new republican party that is starting to emerge.

They have to keep "preaching" about 1/6 and Trump, lest you don't give a crap about the U.S. Constitution and want to turn the U.S. into a Capitalist North Korea.

That's not what racism is, but i'm not going to argue with you about it because i do not respect your opinion.
Judging if someone should have a job or hold a position based on the color of their skin is not racist? Do explain what 'racism' means today since definitions are constantly changing to fit an alt-left narrative.

Obviously, that message is old, tired and hollow but like I said, I hope they do keep preaching and driving moderates away. Everyone, well normal people, are just tired of the constant whining and complaining about fake threats like 'white supremacy' and racism instead of talking about real issues.

Wanting to promote a more diverse teacher population is not racist, it's good policy.

The way he phrased it was stupid, not racist.

Who embraced CRT? They basically ignored it. They should have actually shown what the Rs were objecting to, it wasn’t CRT. CRT is an academic theory from law school. It isn’t ever, ever taught in public primary or secondary schools. The whole issue is a ridiculous lie, but one that was used effectively by Rs.

The books they are getting ready to ban are factual accounts of the civil rights movement. Oh, and in TN they want to ban the Norman Rockwell painting of the little black girl being escorted to school. And in VA they want to ban a Pulitzer Prize winning book about slavery written by Toni Morrison. These are not jokes.

The same people are objecting to historical photographs of white people screaming at black students during desegregation. They think it shows the white people in a bad light. Of course it does, but it happened, you shouldn’t try to whitewash it. Or ban books that present what actually happened. This type of authoritarianism is troubling and should be just as troubling to Rs as the “cancel culture” they like to whine about.

But they don’t care. Everything they say that the Democrats do is actually what they are doing.

Yea, but now it will be easy for the Republicans to say they got CRT out of the classroom, because it never was there in the first place.

They can succeed without doing anything. That is every politician's favorite version of success.

It's sad, but too many voters in this country are simply total idiots. I honestly don't know how anyone in their right mind could ever vote Republican again after 4 years of Trump and the Jan 6 insurrection.

Hatred of liberals and "owning the libs" overrides all rational thought. And democracy in the U.S. is probably coming to an end in Nov 2022 as a result.
