Anxiety surges as Donald Trump may be indicted soon: Why 2024 is 'the final battle' and 'the big one'

WASHINGTON – It looks like American politics is entering a new age of anxiety, triggered by an unprecedented legal development: The potential indictment of a former president and current presidential candidate.

Donald Trump's many legal problems – and calls for protests by his followers – have generated new fears of political violence and anxiety about the unknowable impact all this will have on the already-tense 2024 presidential election

I’ll reframe this is a more accurate way, Are Presidents above the law? This new age was spurred into existence when home grown dummies elected a corrupt, mentally ill, anti-democratic, would be dictator as President and don’t bother to hold him responsible for his crimes, don’t want to because in the ensuing mayhem and destruction, they think they will be better off. The man is actually advocating violence (not the first time). And btw, screw democracy too. If this feeling spreads, we are In deep shirt.

This goes beyond one treasonous Peice of work and out to all his minions. This is on you or should we be sympathetic to the idea of they can’t help being selfish suckers to the Nation’s detriment? Donald Trump is the single largest individual threat to our democracy and it‘s all going to boil down to will the majority of the GOP return to his embrace and start slinging his excrement to support him?

Ministers are like everyone else I guess. Some are better than others. Growing up about the only time I heard about politics from the pulpit was when the minister would say something about praying for the country and the leadership. Occasionally you might hear something about local issues like blue laws and liquor sales and abortion.

Politics is always divisive. Touchy subject to address from the pulpit. Bound to turn some folks off.
Yet politics from the pulpit has become rampant from evangelicals and Catholics. It’s a dark road. They have sold their souls for political power.

I’m gonna have to rewatch Inglourious Basterds all over again, just to be able to get pick up some tips, because I want to do it right when I run into one of these dirtbags

Not sure where to put this. But it does seem to me that our institutions are not going to hold.

Puts it better than I can:

What do you think their motivation is Joe? Why do you think they have abandoned the teachings of Jesus?
The folks I know who are evangelical aren’t motivated by political power. The evangelicals I know haven’t abandoned the teachings of Jesus. Quite the opposite. I get that since they don’t think like you, you prefer to ascribe some evil intent to them. But this whole demonization of people for political purposes doesn’t work anymore. It’s just another worn out political tactic that has lost it’s sting.

Joe. The ultimate context of this is that a Bishop spoke about how "God teaches us that we are to be merciful to the stranger, for we were all once strangers in this land," and the Republican response to that, as represented in one example by Republican member of congress Mike Collins, was that she "should be added to the deportation list."

Demonization of people for political purposes is what they do. And it clearly has not lost its sting, as evidenced by the fact that the sermon was delivered to the President and the person calling for her to be "added to the deportation list" is a member of congress.

How are you this much in denial.

So good for them. Can you wrap your mind around the fact that by discussing a group we don’t mean every single individual in that group.

So do you want to defend the response to the bishop’s preaching by evangelicals? Or just do “not all” which ignores the massive problem?

I would also submit that any Christian who proposes to force others not of their faith to abide by their religious beliefs actually has abandoned their faith and its teachings.

I was taught that people have to come to the faith of their own free will. It’s against the way I was taught to force them to obey.

There are two different points being made

Your point: Many people are on the ballot - not a binary choice - you are correct on this point

Our point: Only one of two will win - it's a binary outcome - everyone making this point is correct
Only one will win. That’s a singular outcome. Only one of many.

Be that as it may. Lots of hair splitting going on.

I don’t disagree that it would be highly unusual for anyone other than a candidate from one of the two major parties to win POTUS. But the fact is that the voter has other than those two. So it’s not a binary decision. It’s not a given that a non vote for one will translate into a vote for the other. It may and it may not. Negative ads and demonization of the other candidate are highly effective but only go so far.

Rob.

The Democrats have demonized conservatives and republicans for years. How did that work out?

The actual context to this little side conversation is a comment by another poster that said evangelicals have sold their soul for political purposes.

I have no issue with the Bishop speaking her mind. That’s between her and her parishioners. That’s her privilege. The individual who made the comment is probably no better informed than you.

That's almost exclusively what Trump does and he just won the presidential election? It doesn't even feel like I share the same world with other people now-a-days. How can you seriously make that statement?

Only one will win out of two out of how many others are running

Two possible winners

That’s it. That’s the binary choice

That’s also it for me engaging in this debate

Either you can’t possibly be this obtuse, or you can be

There’s another binary choice for you

This post is so hilarous tone deaf. We witnessed a Nazi salute from the top Republcian donor speaking at an offical inauguration event.

Republicans aren't beating the racist, and evil allegations.

FYI: I'll add there is no such thing as a conserative christian. Pick one.
