I figured we needed a thread specifically about the media.

There was a very big correction recently by the Washington Post.

That story was supposedly "independently confirmed" by CNN, NBC News, USA Today, ABC News, & PBS News Hour. How could they all have gotten the quote wrong if they actually independently confirmed the story?

Why do all the errors always go in one political direction and not closer to 50/50?

There are some things in the Trump agenda with which I agree and there are others with which I disagree. The same could be said for Biden. So I doubt you will be able to make the case that I support Biden or the Democrats Party.

Yes the US is a representative democracy. Do you even know what that means? It doesn’t mean you support 100 percent of the agenda of the party to which your representative happens to belong. That’s just plain stupid. There are lots of people out there that don’t belong to either party. In fact, there are many who may have voted for a candidate from one party at the top of the ticket and another candidate from the opposite party in the down ballot races. I get you folks who believe in following in lockstep think that everyone thinks and vote like you. Hate to disappoint. Many of us reserve the right to either agree or disagree with the party line on the issues of our choosing. That’s real democracy in a free society. Not everybody votes like you. We aren’t all sheep.

Nobody said that at all. What has been said repeatedly is that if you vote for someone, you are saying that you are ok with them following through on what they said they would do. GOP congresspeople are, by and large, supporting the things you think are disgusting while belonging to a party you deem to be corrupt. How do you justify voting for corrupt people who openly say they will support disgusting things?

You are saying all that. I never said I was okay with 100 percent of what anyone from either party might do. I wouldn’t make that kind of guarantee for anyone.

I tend to vote for conservatives. I have voted for some moderate left of center liberals in the past. Not often but occasionally. I don’t vote for someone solely because they are a member of a political party. I don’t care for party politics. You may vote that way. That’s up to you. But that doesn’t enter into my calculus. So you do you and I will do me.

That's like saying you buy donuts for the holes. The candidates are typically 99.9% party politics. You can't vote for them and not for the party politics.

Maybe you can’t. Maybe all your representatives are not individuals but members of the borg. Perhaps having individual candidates campaign is a waste of time for you?

I tend to look at candidates as individuals. If I don’t like them or find I cannot support them then I won’t vote for them just because the party chose them or because they identify as a party member. Maybe that’s how it works for you. Not how it works for me.

You tend to vote for conservatives, conservatives in Congress overwhelmingly support Trump. That's a pretty easy path to follow. I ask again, how do you justify voting for anyone that runs under the banner of a party you deem to be full of corrupt and self-serving people supporting a disgusting party?

Ok, tell us the names of some of the conservative candidates you've recently voted for, so you can show us how very independent and not at all along party lines their voting records are.

    Asked and answered.

I didn’t vote for Trump. Not in 2016. Not in 2020 and not in 2024. If I was all about the party, I would have held my nose and voted for the man.

The last Dem I voted for in a national race was Al Gore for Senate in TN. I have voted Dem in many local races in Memphis Shelby County.

That wasn’t the question was it? He asked for the last conservatives you voted for.
