This is going to need a thread as we move forward - there are now clear signs that Trump supports a new, critical if not dubious approach on vaccination, and his HHS nominee RFK Jr. regularly espouses eating raw milk and raw meat . . . dietary components most experts agree are more dangerous than their heated counterparts.

Health is certainly one of those areas were anti-institutionalism and turning to popular influencers over medical science comes with genuine risk of harm.

Today Trump provided his most clear indication that he is a vaccine skeptic - claiming (falsely of course) that the USA doesn't "do as well" as other nations that use no vaccines at all.

Just one month after setting a deadline to find the cause of autism, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is already pushing back the timetable.

In April, Kennedy announced at President Donald Trump’s Cabinet meeting that the HHS launched a “massive testing and research effort” that would lead to finding “what has caused the autism epidemic and we’ll be able to eliminate those exposures” by September.

Now, the HHS secretary predicted his department will need another six months to achieve this goal.

While researchers will be able to ascertain “some” information by the original deadline, Kennedy said it will take more time to obtain the “most solid” information, Kennedy told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins Thursday. The additional six months would push the timeline to March 2026.

“We’re going to replicate some of the studies that have already been done that look like sound studies. We’ll know a lot from those and then we’ll know a lot more afterward,” he continued.…….

    He is a forking idiot.

This doctor nails one thing about MAHA that I hadn’t really articulated to myself. The entire premise puts the responsibility for health on the individual. If you would just eat right and exercise properly, you won’t get sick. This is what allows RFK. Jr to make that heinous statement about measles - that only sick kids should die of measles. People who are sick are that way due to their own failings, even if they get a communicable disease, it won’t kill them if they’re healthy. Of course this simply isn’t true, and it demonizes people who are sick in an evil way.

You also don’t get sick if you’re a good christian, or so some of my family believes.

So the FDA commisioner don't understand anything about Diabetes?

The dude is an oncologist and surgeon primarily as relates to oncology.

There are very good reasons why doctors specialize and why they refer patients to specialists. I do not see my PCP only for my blood issues. I see a hematologist. They discuss and collaborate on my treatment.

and did you know trump ran on this platform too?

"It talks about 70% of the diet being ultra-processed," he added. "It talks about pesticides, microplastics, natural light exposure in children, sleep quality. Remember, Republican, Democrat, and independent moms showed up in high numbers to vote for President Trump over this very issue."

And now that he is elected he is removing oversight on food production and environmental polutions.

They have developed a substitute for insulin!

Having skimmed the article, I don’t see the part where he claimed diet would replace insulin for diabetics. I believe what he is trying to say is what most any endocrinologist would say. The more you can control your blood sugar with diet and exercise and controlling your weight, the less you will need to rely on insulin and the better off you will be both mentally and physically.

Been hearing that for years. It’s nothing new. Common sense really.

Except he was talking about children and that's usually type 1, and that requires medical intervention. Also he was saying kids are taking. The fat shot or pill like trump called it.

More and more children suffer from obesity which leads to type 2 diabetes and other chronic conditions later in life. More and more doctors are prescribing Ozempic and similar drugs to combat these conditions. This isn’t made up. It is definitely a problem. A problem that needs to be addressed somehow, someway.

I didn’t read anything more into the article that what was written. I didn’t see the part where he said diet was the answer for type 1. Why? Because it simply isn’t and any doctor knows better. However, it is definitely an answer for delaying, mitigating and hopefully preventing type 2 diabetes. I am all for using drug therapies to treat type two and its related chronic conditions but these drugs are not without side effects that also may have long term consequences. So the less one needs to rely on drug therapies and uses proper diet and exercise to control their weight and blood sugar, the better off they are in the long run.

I haven’t heard a single doctor disagree with what I just wrote.
