This is going to need a thread as we move forward - there are now clear signs that Trump supports a new, critical if not dubious approach on vaccination, and his HHS nominee RFK Jr. regularly espouses eating raw milk and raw meat . . . dietary components most experts agree are more dangerous than their heated counterparts.

Health is certainly one of those areas were anti-institutionalism and turning to popular influencers over medical science comes with genuine risk of harm.

Today Trump provided his most clear indication that he is a vaccine skeptic - claiming (falsely of course) that the USA doesn't "do as well" as other nations that use no vaccines at all.

Except he was talking about children and that's usually type 1, and that requires medical intervention. Also he was saying kids are taking. The fat shot or pill like trump called it.
I believe Grand Admiral is Type 1. Diet will not control that. Those that suffer from Type 1 were just dealt
    a bad genetic card.

I thought I read that they left pregnancy as a qualifying condition for the Covid vaccine. They must really hate women. (Pregnancy causes a drop in women’s immune systems, thus making them more vulnerable to any communicable disease. Covid has been proven to be more dangerous to pregnant women).

Getting closer to making America healthy would require removing RFK, Jr. from his position.

He already has - just overseas. Healthy children, too. He’s a dangerous sociopath.
Very much so. Children overseas? MAGA doesn’t care about them. It will take some time but people here especially kids will make some of MAGA change their minds. That being said too many of MAGA are too far gone into the cult of Trump and American theomythology.

Advocates for pregnant people said they are alarmed by Robert F Kennedy Jr’s unprecedented and unilateral decision to remove Covid-19 booster shots from the recommended immunization schedule.

A vaccine’s inclusion on the schedule is important for patient access, because many private health insurance plans determine which vaccines to cover based on the schedule.

“Covid-19’s impact on pregnancy is deeply personal to me,” said Dr Amanda Williams, interim chief medical officer at March of Dimes, a non-profit focused on the health of mothers and babies, in a statement.

“During the height of the pandemic, I cared for a healthy patient who was 32 weeks pregnant and tragically died from Covid-19 despite state-of-the-art medical care. One of her last words was that she wished she had taken the vaccine.”

The Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine (SMFM), experts on high-risk pregnancy, said in a statement that it “strongly reaffirms its recommendation that pregnant patients receive the Covid-19 vaccine”, and that the vaccine is safe to receive at any time during pregnancy.

In a statement, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) said it was “concerned about and extremely disappointed”.

“We also understand that despite the change in recommendations from [health and human services], the science has not changed,” said Dr Steven J Fleischman, ACOG president. “It is very clear that Covid-19 infection during pregnancy can be catastrophic and lead to major disability, and it can cause devastating consequences for families,” said Fleischman.

Kennedy made the announcement on Tuesday on social media, flanked by Trump administration appointees to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) – neither of whom are typically involved in such decisions.

Typically, changes to the recommended vaccine schedule are based on open public debate and the recommendation of an independent panel of experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s advisory committee on immunization practices.……

They don't care how many people they kill with their ignorance.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s surprise announcement Tuesday ending coronavirus vaccine recommendations for healthy children and pregnant women blindsided the agency that offers that advice, according to current and former federal health officials.

Officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are scrambling to understand Kennedy’s decision, announced in a 58-second video on X on Tuesday morning, which took agency staff by surprise.

Five hours later, CDC officials received a one-page “secretarial directive,” dated May 19 and signed by Kennedy, that contradicts some of what he said in his video, according to two current and one former health officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity out of fear of retaliation.

In his tweet and video, Kennedy said he had unilaterally decided to override the current recommendation that everyone 6 months and older receive an annual coronavirus vaccination — including healthy pregnant women.

Officials at the CDC learned of that decision “when it was tweeted. People were scrambling to find out what it meant,” one federal health official said. The letter was distributed to the CDC in the afternoon, causing more confusion because it was dated May 19, the official said.

In his video, Kennedy also said federal health officials had removed the previous recommendations from the agency website. But top CDC officials did not know of the decision at the time, according to one official, and as of Wednesday that removal still had not happened for the millions of people who rely on the site for health-care guidance.

The directive raises questions about who should be getting the vaccine because it refers to both healthy children and all children. “The CDC is directed to remove COVID-19 vaccines from the recommended Child and Adolescent Immunization Schedule by Age and recommended vaccines during pregnancy,” the letter states.

    “It’s unclear,” the official said.

In his video, Kennedy, who founded an anti-vaccine organization before joining the government, also said he was ending coronavirus shots for healthy pregnant women. But last week, top officials from the Food and Drug Administration outlined a new coronavirus vaccine policy in a New England Journal of Medicine article, approving shots only for those 65 and older and people with medical conditions that put them at high risk for severe illness. Pregnancy is listed as one of the conditions.

HHS spokesman Andrew Nixon said the directive provides that the vaccine should not be recommended for healthy children under 18 and should not be recommended for pregnant women. He did not address questions about the apparent contradictions between the directive, Kennedy’s video and the New England Journal of Medicine article.

“Secretary Kennedy is taking urgent action to ensure the public’s safety when it comes to COVID-19 vaccines,” Nixon said in a statement...............

40 years this July. Definitely dealt a bad card. It irks me to no end listening to folks tell me that all I need to do is exercise more and take cinnamon and I'll be cured. Please stop! and read something real.

Autoimmune vs metabolic... there is a difference, you idiots.

    Who is making that claim?

Did you see that scientists have made some insulin producing cells that escape notice of the body’s immune system? They have injected them into a patient’s forearm, where they have settled and been producing insulin for about 3 months now with no immune response. No immunosuppressant therapy needed. I wish I had saved the article. They genetically altered the cells so they wouldn’t trigger immune response.
