In another thread, it was brought to my attention that we am not allowed to use certain centuries old definitions because they have been 'updated'. That discussion was about the definition of 'racism'. I asked who controls the 'words' and who exactly gets to update the meaning of those commonly used words.

I saw this yesterday and thought this would be a discussion to attempt to have.

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...e-terms-like-birthing-parents-human-milk.html

    https://news.yahoo.com/democrats-replace-women-birthing-people-033500864.html

IMO this is a move to be 'inclusive' to trans people at the sake of women (we are discussing birthing humans after all).

The recent call to change the word for a person who comes into a country illegally from Alien to undocumented. Why? What possible purpose does it serve?

Even 'white supremacy' doesn't mean 'white supremacy'.

I am sure we are all somewhat familiar with Orwell and 1984. So i thought this would be a good place to post and discuss the language that we are seeing right in front of us. If we can't even share a language with common definitions, how do we expect to share a government?

Did you read it critically? I ask because nowhere does it say it wants to collectively own anything other than "the key economic drivers that dominate our lives, such as energy production and transportation."

Mass transit and energy are natural monopolies. They're not talking about pizza places and shoe stores or contractors and doctors offices. And, words matter.
Yea I’ve been browsing various articles, in their publications. There’s the democratic left, democratic socialists, and socialist publications. All playing footsies with each other. But the long term plan is socialism. A planned economy where everyone has their needs met. What stood out to me was the elimination of the Senate, which I thought was a bold statement. We’re seeing many of there current ideas being debated. They are proud of their gains at the local levels, school boards, Buffalo, councils, etc. They’re using the Democratic Party for power.

The message of socialism is always very compelling to the young naive members of every generation. Furthermore, they do not teach the 20th century atrocities of socialism.
The truth is that today in 2021 this is the most prosperous time in world history.

you are alarmed by this, but your assertion that they are taking over is just hyperbole. They won’t be “taking over”.

ironically, it’s the GOP that has decided that elections which don’t turn out the way they prefer should be overturned.

In order to be a current member in good standing of the GOP, you have to support lies about election integrity. You have to support an egregious act of violence against our capitol and our democracy and you have to shun anyone who tells the truth about the act of violence.

So…we already own public transportation. It’s taxpayer funded. As are all public roads and highways.

Also, where I live, electricity is a co-op. So I already own that, too.

So yea, welcome to Stalingrad, comrade.
You must live in a paradise, every road that is “improved” here seems to take ages to complete, then is dug up again. On top of that the new designs are so convoluted traffic is backed up worse bc some genius decided that it would be a good idea to eliminate multiple lanes and have 5:00 traffic merge into one. What ever studies they based their designs on aren’t worth the paper they were printed on.

That’s a different topic. This country is a mix of private and public enterprises, as has been pointed out. Agriculture hasn’t been mentioned, but as a matter of national security the government uses a combo of carrots and sticks to regulate that.

The balance in the US between raw capitalism and government control of capitalism tends to ebb and flow. Right now, I would judge that we need a little help controlling raw capitalism, because 50 years ago CEOs made about 30x what their workers made and it is now about 300x. That’s the sort of imbalance that will kill the middle class eventually. And the middle class is what has made this country work as well as it has (economically) for the last almost 100 years.

Which is all besides the point that the GOP is using “socialism” as fear porn to scare their base. Very cynically. I have zero doubt that actual socialism is no threat to this nation. Capitalism (with limits) can certainly win against pure socialism. Creeping fascism, however, is beginning to get my attention.

I don’t believe I said taking over. I said the ideas they espouse are currently being debated, and they are are proud of the elected gains they are making.

I admit I don’t trust democratic socialist policies, small gains I think are a Trojan horse to their bolder plans. That’s why I went to the socialist website to get myself educated on how they see the future.
The majority of Your “card carrying GOP” I.e. yertle the turtle etals, will bend over and spread their cheeks as long as they get a seat at the table. Then come running to their constituency every election year to get re elected, with their hard earned money.

I would say fascists, racists…. Ists are the lefts favorite fear porn too. Fascism is an anathema, to any conservative. But I know better than to try to convince this board of that by anymore than what I’ve said. 😄 I’ll leave it at that. Good conversation. Good night.

    Who is "they"?

How long before their "bolder plans" materialize in your judgement?

One is an economic system, the other is a form of government.
    Both authoritarian
One based on class (oppressors versus oppressed), the other based on nationality or ethnicity

Mussolini was a rabid socialist before he evolved into fascism.
It is no coincidence that the NAZIs considered themselves socialists.
Fidel Castro was both a a fascist and communist.

Yes racists, fascists, but don't forget the Russia hysteria(amazing how that disappeared after Trump lost the election) and now insurrection and terrorists. #both sides

Fascism may be anathema to traditional conservatism, but it is not anathema to Trumpism and the current brand of the Republican party. It's what they're outright demanding in many instances (i.e. overturning and legitimate election based on conspiracy theory and lies). I won't try and convince you, but facts bare that out.

Russia tried their best to help Trump win the last election too. They just failed this time.

What about the facism that democrats currently support with the merging of the Democratic party, national security state and big tech like Facebook and Twitter? You guys love censorship.

If Russia was such a big threat during the Trump administration, why did the constant talk about Russia by the Democrats and the media disappear? Is Russia not a threat anymore or did the Russia hysteria serve it's purpose and now its not necessary with Trump out of office?
