Joe Rogan says he would host and moderate a 4 hour debate for Trump and Biden.
    Trump say he is in.

I think having a long form debate like this would allow the candidates to fully explain their positions instead of talking in sound bites like in the usual debates.

    Trevor does a good job.

BTW, this was in March.. so a bit has changed.

Talking with Cuomo, and let him speak. Interesting to hear how he viewed the data.

Then with Biden. his questions are conversationally.

It isn’t a moderator’s job to scrutinize answers. That is the other debater’s job. They by definition are unbiased and neutral or they are a terrible moderator.

A moderator is to ask questions and maintain order and not let one participant use time they aren’t allotted.

Maybe if they need to have someone make them do a Ziggy Zoggy or eat a live roach we can use his expertise

honestly, when I first saw this floated, I thought it was a joke. I'm still not sure it isn't, entirely.

But Rogan shouldn't be moderating any debate. The political partisanship is at a peak on his show. I used to listen to him pretty religiously over the years, then more sporadically because his tenor tended to change and the people coming on the show weren't people I felt needed the legitimacy of 'appearing on Joe Rogan'

And lately, in a podcast, talking about how he likes performing in Portland and it's one of his favorite cities and most of the people are there are good people, but the city has been taken over by "riots" and "madness" is sensationalizedd. Because he knows what his audience wants to hear. Then he follows it up with 'far left arsonists starting the forest fires.' Also not true. Then talking about how "these people" want "your head" and want "blood."

All of that feeds into a particular narrative for a particular group of people looking to have these delusions validated.

That's not even remotely close to being the type of platform for a Presidential debate. I don't trust that for a second.

And I think the insistence of "Well, who would you suggest instead?!?!" is nonsensical, too. As if I - or we - have much of a clue of who would be in the pool of that job among all Americans.

My wife shouldn't be the Fire Marshal of the City of Toronto. I shouldn't have to name who would be a better fire marshal to know that or say that. You can just look at the job and the person and be like, "nope."

The Joe Rogan show is beneath the office.

I saw that clip where he was completely irresponsible about “leftists” starting the forest fires. Theres no way he doesn’t know that’s false, even the FBI has said so very publicly.

In the comments after there were several people who made the point that they feel Rogan has shifted recently, possibly even heading toward the Alex Jones model of peddling conspiracy theories.

all of those dudes have slid further to that side. Why? Because it's financially lucrative. Rogan signed that massive Spotify-exclusive deal. Tim Pool used to be tolerable but has become nothing more than a willing Trumpist. Daily Wire - Shapiro, Walsh, Knowles - have all become increasingly unhinged and more right. The racism and bigotry that has long underpinned their world view is more open now, because (1) there's no repercussions for its public display and (2) it gets clicks and views and ad revenue. What they are raking in from Facebook must be crazy cash. Then you have the on-the-street amateur journalists. Andy Ngo and Ian Miles Cheong are straight up propagandists and provocateurs, literally begging for cash all over their social media. Andy Ngo already bilked his followers of $200k and his eyes only got bigger. And then you have Charlie Kirk earning 300k/year after being a dropout and loser, re-branding himself into the vision of Trump Youth. All propaganda - paying college students to hold up TPUSA signs to snap a photo as 'proof' of a campus-based conservative revolution. Charlie and TPUSA are racist organizations - at best they are an organization filled with racists. But hey, he's making bank. Charlie got together with Jerry Falwell to create the "Falkirk" Think Tank for Conservatives. Two scammers activating their Twin Powers! to bilk dupes out of more of their cash. And PragerU has given up any pretence to professionalism or integrity, letting randos get on their platform and rant about whatever they want, with no concern for validity or credibility.

It's all a scam. It's all just making money.

Paranoia is hot right now. Soothing the threatened center-dwellers by Stuart Smalley-ing their fragile egos, reaffirming that they are good enough and smart enough.

Now, all that said, I don't think Rogan is nearly as far as most of the rest of these idiots. But there's a lot overlap in their listening demographics and he does give legitimacy to the more extreme listeners even though he might not as tilted right as other exploitative punditry

It's all information pollution due to the newness of the digital age. It always takes society a while to figure out how to properly regulate against the unchecked and destructive exploitation of the commodities of a new economic age. Most of the "disruptors" of the digital age are the same as the "robber barons" of the early industrial age.

and folks in the digital age messing with them in return. I have to say, a couple of petty indulgences was the WAP grief Shapiro took on social media and the @ToiletPaperUSA subreddit

things like this help me balance humor with my rage and disappointment at broader society lol

I get it. I don't expose myself to much social media to protect my emotional and mental health.

speaking of these pundits, Tucker Carlson had Cornel West on his show, apparently, and I saw him define "democratic socialism" for Tucker and Tucker's response was, "Well, if that's what democratic socialism is, then I'm basically on board."

It's about dignity and equality. That doesn't mean it doesn't get perverted, but neither does it mean it's meritless. And if Tucker can be helped to see the merit in the cause (whatever the name), that's a good thing.

I think we should just keep in mind that Tucker just goes with whatever will gain him the greatest audience. He started his career on MSNBC IIRC. Once he moved to Fox, Eric Swalwell told how Tucker used to joke before the cameras rolled about how his show was just an act. Whatever he needed to do to gain viewers. It’s the same to some extent with all the cable talk show hosts on all the networks. It’s wise to keep some skepticism about most of them.

I saw a bigger clip of the interview, including what followed, so I know what he said after about it. I didn't know it was from 2018.

But I also don't care. With the viral nature of the internet, getting Tucker saying there are positive elements is a good thing. And I definitely don't think this makes him an ally. Nor does it give me any respect for him.

I'm more interested in anything that gets people to see that some of these things aren't the bogeymen that they are led to believe.

I guess the majority of you guys opposed to Joe Rogan moderating a debate haven’t seen the show where he hosts Tim Pool and two execs from Twitter. In my view it worked out fairly well. I’m all for Joe moderating. He has a pretty good grasp on the major topics of the day.

He is also clearly not in the tank for Trump. The man endorsed Bernie Sanders for crying out loud.

Or I can think he’s a terrible option for a lot of other reasons than hosting a single show with a shill like Pool and @jack

That’s why I said majority. And again Pool is not a shill either. He supported Sanders in 2016. He just doesn’t like the route the Democrats have taken over the last 4 years because he doesn’t have TDS.

Pool is a total shill now. The way he has become such a petty mouthpiece, driven by vindictiveness has totally compromised him

he has also largely abandoned his willingness to admit, publicly, his mistakes. He used to be reasonably reliable in this regard.

and if you think I believe all of this because I have “TDS” then again you have guessed wrong. I’ve been watching this change in him for a while.

the difference is stark and undeniable.
