Russia continues to mass assets within range of Ukraine - though the official explanations are that they are for various exercises. United States intelligence has noted that Russian operatives in Ukraine could launch 'false flag' operations as a predicate to invasion. The West has pressed for negotiations and on Friday in Geneva, the US Sec. State Blinken will meet with the Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov.

Certainly the Russian movements evidence some plan - but what is it? Some analysts believe that Putin's grand scheme involves securing Western commitments that NATO would never expand beyond its current composition. Whether that means action in Ukraine or merely the movement of pieces on the chess board remains to be seen.

VIENNA — No one expected much progress from this past week’s diplomatic marathon to defuse the security crisis Russia has ignited in Eastern Europe by surrounding Ukraine on three sides with 100,000 troops and then, by the White House’s accounting, sending in saboteurs to create a pretext for invasion.

But as the Biden administration and NATO conduct tabletop simulations about how the next few months could unfold, they are increasingly wary of another set of options for President Vladimir V. Putin, steps that are more far-reaching than simply rolling his troops and armor over Ukraine’s border.

Mr. Putin wants to extend Russia’s sphere of influence to Eastern Europe and secure written commitments that NATO will never again enlarge. If he is frustrated in reaching that goal, some of his aides suggested on the sidelines of the negotiations last week, then he would pursue Russia’s security interests with results that would be felt acutely in Europe and the United States.

There were hints, never quite spelled out, that nuclear weapons could be shifted to places — perhaps not far from the United States coastline — that would reduce warning times after a launch to as little as five minutes, potentially igniting a confrontation with echoes of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.

It's apparently at the bottom or the Black Sea now. Crazy.
Is it? I haven’t been listening to the news today - but last I heard it was badly damaged but apparently able to limp toward port.

seems like it did eventually sink

The Russian Defense Ministry said the ship sank in a storm while being towed to a port.

Well, there have been mixed reports on whether it sank or not. DOD hasn't confirmed it yet, but other sources have said it has, so who knows.

Officially according to the Russians, the Moskva sank due to a fire that lead to an explosion. Meanwhile, "we must bomb kyiv" because..

And while towing the disabled ship to port, it sank due to terrible weather.

    Buuuttt....

(I know the weather in sevastopol doesn't mean the weather where the ship sank may not be the same...still) :)

    sad

There are commercial satellite photos showing mass graves in occupied Ukraine to the south. And its increasing by the day. Not to mention mobile crematorium..allegedly. Forced conscription of ukrainians in donbas for cannon fodder.

All this and the video of a far left Irish EU MP screaming negotiated peace will save more ukrainian lives.

Here is a thread with excerpt from an account of the crimean war. Same Russia same problems of corruption and exaggeration of their army size.

I'll post this here since this is the latest war related thread. I didn't want to start a new thread or pull up and old one. It's amazing that most people haven't connected the dots between all these wars and conflicts we get involved in and the money that the military industrial complex makes.

I'm surprised that the 2014 Obama supported coup in Ukraine hasn't been brought up yet. Victoria Nuland was caught on audio discussing who the next leader of Ukraine would be.

"I'm not on Russia's side, but..."

Tell me you blame the US for the Russian invasion without coming out and saying it. What a sad thing really, to be so desperate to be seen as “knowing” a thing that you will actively root against your own country and excuse a murderous dictator. I didn’t think you were this far gone, SFL.

Did you check out the person you quoted? Like at all? I read her bio and her tweets and those of her associate. Pure Russian propaganda. Straight from the Kremlin, including an allegation that RT was smeared by Western Media, when I heard the former boss of RT say on Russian television that she wanted to control all media, so that only the stories favorable to Russia are carried.

Good lord, you're on a nonsensical post roll today. Sheesh.
