Russia continues to mass assets within range of Ukraine - though the official explanations are that they are for various exercises. United States intelligence has noted that Russian operatives in Ukraine could launch 'false flag' operations as a predicate to invasion. The West has pressed for negotiations and on Friday in Geneva, the US Sec. State Blinken will meet with the Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov.

Certainly the Russian movements evidence some plan - but what is it? Some analysts believe that Putin's grand scheme involves securing Western commitments that NATO would never expand beyond its current composition. Whether that means action in Ukraine or merely the movement of pieces on the chess board remains to be seen.

VIENNA — No one expected much progress from this past week’s diplomatic marathon to defuse the security crisis Russia has ignited in Eastern Europe by surrounding Ukraine on three sides with 100,000 troops and then, by the White House’s accounting, sending in saboteurs to create a pretext for invasion.

But as the Biden administration and NATO conduct tabletop simulations about how the next few months could unfold, they are increasingly wary of another set of options for President Vladimir V. Putin, steps that are more far-reaching than simply rolling his troops and armor over Ukraine’s border.

Mr. Putin wants to extend Russia’s sphere of influence to Eastern Europe and secure written commitments that NATO will never again enlarge. If he is frustrated in reaching that goal, some of his aides suggested on the sidelines of the negotiations last week, then he would pursue Russia’s security interests with results that would be felt acutely in Europe and the United States.

There were hints, never quite spelled out, that nuclear weapons could be shifted to places — perhaps not far from the United States coastline — that would reduce warning times after a launch to as little as five minutes, potentially igniting a confrontation with echoes of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.

Then there's this forking guy! I'm 99% sure that I would drop him on sight, he is evil in its purest form.

My mom goes to church with him. She name drops him ALL THE TIME. She thinks he is the most amazing, humble, and godly man. I'm like....how can you not see he is a snivelling snake? He is NOT a good person. He has totally sold out all of his values in service to president Krasnov. Almost every time I see him on TV, whatever he is saying is a blatant, easily disproven lie. They don't even hide it anymore.....they just do evil right out in the open and the christian right loves them for it. So forking weird. My wife and I ask ourselves daily is this real? Are we dreaming or is it a matrix style computer simulation? These things cannot be happening.

Funny story....as I said, she name drops him constantly. She always says stuff like "anyone messes with me or my family I got friends in high places I can call"...."he is such a good man and he would do anything that I asked him to do"....stuff like that.

Last year I found myself in a difficult legal situation here in Germany where one phone call from the speaker of the house would have likely ended the whole thing. So I took her up on the offer to call her friend in a high place. Even though he is a snake, I would gladly accept help from a snake if it saves me 15-20k in lawyer fees.

She said she would call him and ask....then a week later she said "he's the speaker of the house it's not like I have his phone number I don't know what you want me to do."

Lol....my brother in Christ it is YOU who has been saying for 2 years that he is your good friend and you can call him for a favor anytime...lol.

Yep. They talk a big game, but rarely if ever live up to the hype. If anything, it's the opposite.

And the maddening thing is they can't see their own hypocrisy. The total lack of self-awareness drives me nuts.
