Russia continues to mass assets within range of Ukraine - though the official explanations are that they are for various exercises. United States intelligence has noted that Russian operatives in Ukraine could launch 'false flag' operations as a predicate to invasion. The West has pressed for negotiations and on Friday in Geneva, the US Sec. State Blinken will meet with the Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov.

Certainly the Russian movements evidence some plan - but what is it? Some analysts believe that Putin's grand scheme involves securing Western commitments that NATO would never expand beyond its current composition. Whether that means action in Ukraine or merely the movement of pieces on the chess board remains to be seen.

VIENNA — No one expected much progress from this past week’s diplomatic marathon to defuse the security crisis Russia has ignited in Eastern Europe by surrounding Ukraine on three sides with 100,000 troops and then, by the White House’s accounting, sending in saboteurs to create a pretext for invasion.

But as the Biden administration and NATO conduct tabletop simulations about how the next few months could unfold, they are increasingly wary of another set of options for President Vladimir V. Putin, steps that are more far-reaching than simply rolling his troops and armor over Ukraine’s border.

Mr. Putin wants to extend Russia’s sphere of influence to Eastern Europe and secure written commitments that NATO will never again enlarge. If he is frustrated in reaching that goal, some of his aides suggested on the sidelines of the negotiations last week, then he would pursue Russia’s security interests with results that would be felt acutely in Europe and the United States.

There were hints, never quite spelled out, that nuclear weapons could be shifted to places — perhaps not far from the United States coastline — that would reduce warning times after a launch to as little as five minutes, potentially igniting a confrontation with echoes of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.

MY THOUGHTS on this conflict comes from ASSURANCES MY COUNTRY made to the Ukrainians in 1994 during the TRI-lateral talks between Ukraine, Rus & USA regarding Ukraine's nuclear disarmament after the fall of the USSR. It starts and stop there.

Can you explain to the class why it matters if Ukraine is racist, and authoritarian? Has America supported regimes in the past with worst records? How does this change facts like Russia invading their sovereign territory, mass rape, and civilian deaths?

I gave you the elections...how do you hold proper election when 1/4 of population is refugees in other countries, 200,000 are defending and 20% of land is occupied...how? I'll wait.

but you are asking someone who was in favor of Pence denying a free Democratic election with ZERO evidence of wrong doing other than fabricated lies.
he is also in favor of closing polling locations in inner cities and getting rid of mail in ballots that are completely legal.

Let me tell you something about Ukraine and yes I know a lot about it. We have literally thousands of refugees here. The company I worked for had a small developer office in Kyiev and managed to get the 5 people (all Ukrainian) out of the country WITH their families just before the invasion. We have a yearly company week where they would usually attend and due to the threats and the insecurity at that time, the company offered to pay not only for the transport and stay of my ukrainian Collegues but also their families who would hopefully just get a weeks vacation in Denmark.

Well Russia invaded 2 days later. 2 of my collegues are now back in Ukraine fighting. Their families are still here and the company still pays the usual salary to their families. Both have been back a couple of times on leave to visit and their stories and the images they show - are clear proof that this is very much a war of annihilation. Russia want to destroy every bit of Ukrainian culture and history. They are stealing children and moving them to re-education camps in Russia. How you in any way can defend that is totally absurd!
