A couple of days ago, one of the main US-MX border points of entry was blocked by 1000's of migrants demanding entry into the country, which caused chaos for those who lawfully cross the border on business, for work, or for delivery of goods, both ways.

Lawful border crossings are getting progressively worse across the border, and drug cartels are finding it easier to move product, as the CBP has to transfer personnel and efforts to the processing of migrants.

It's not different on MX's South border. Yesterday, ~5000 migrants stormed into Chiapas all the way to the INM building (INM is immigration) running over fences, barricades, and elements of the National Guard. They are now taking over an ecological park in Tapachula, Chiapas, which it's going to be severely affected, as it's been the case with just about everywhere migrants squat.

Unfortunately, Juan Trump (that's Donald Trump's pet name for the President of México) was bamboozled by his "friend" Donald into making MX a "lobby" for migrants trying to reach the U.S.

Many people would argue that migrants are "good for the economy", but that is not always the case. Billions of dollars leave the U.S. economy every year, because migrants send money from the U.S. to other countries to support families there. The biggest destinations are India and MX, to the tune of 100 billion dollars in 2023 alone, according to the Bank of México (kind of like the MX version of the Fed). These billions of dollars do not circulate in the U.S. economy.

Speaking of inflation, the past year, the U.S. dollar has lost ~20% of its value against the MX peso. One of the main reasons for it, is the amount of money being sent to MX from the U.S. And MX is the U.S. 2nd largest trading partner.

Gregg Abbott is a lot of things, but I don't blame him for his attempts at curbing the hordes of people demanding entry into the U.S., even the busing of migrants to other States, making some put their money where their mouth is, like the Mayor of NYC, who was so welcoming of migrants, until he he got a taste, then went crying to the federal government for more money, while the shelters were at full capacity; shelters which BTW serve the NYC poor as well.

And please, no one mention a wall. There is a wall. A wall can be climbed; a wall can be dug under.; holes can be punched through walls.

Biden isn’t suing TX, the DOJ is. Do you know why? Because TX law enforcement has arrested US citizens in their ham-handed efforts. They are like loose canons out there and don’t know what they are doing. That is what is called “context”.
    The Biden DOJ

I’m adding what I have learned from reading about the TX law just now. TX law hasn’t gone into effect, but TX has been arresting people they suspect of crossing the border for “trespassing”. The article linked below does a good job of explaining why that is somewhat problematic. I’m assuming I read about US citizens being detained because of this activity.

The DOJ objects to the new law because federal courts have repeatedly assigned immigration enforcement to the feds, and prohibited states from carrying out immigration enforcement. Also, MX is objecting to the TX plan to take people they suspect of crossing the border and dumping them back into MX.

What link? It probably aired recently on Fox News.
They always link their interviews, don’t they?

Biden, unlike Trump, has been scrupulous about the separation between his Admin and the DOJ. You can scoff, but there isn’t any evidence that Biden has meddled.

New York City has sued 17 charter bus companies that transported migrants from Texas, the mayor, Eric Adams, announced on Thursday.

The lawsuit, filed in New York state court in Manhattan, says the city is seeking $708m from the firms because that was the cost it incurred to house the migrants and provide services to them over the past two years.

In that time, more than 33,000 people were bussed to the city as a part of Operation Lone Star, a joint effort between the Texas department of public safety and the Texas military department that began in 2021 to curb illegal immigration. Operation Lone Star was born from what the Texas Republican governor, Greg Abbott, called “Biden’s reckless open-border policies”.

But Adams said the transportation companies had violated a 19th-century New York state law that requires anyone who transports a needy person likely to seek government assistance from another state to cover their expenses.

“New York City has and will always do our part to manage this humanitarian crisis, but we cannot bear the costs of reckless political ploys from the state of Texas alone,” Adams said.

“Governor Abbott’s continued use of migrants as political pawns is not only chaotic and inhumane but makes clear he puts politics over people. Today’s lawsuit should serve as a warning to all those who break the law in this way.”

Texas’s attempts to enforce border security – an issue that officially falls under the purview of the federal government – has in the past been condemned by the justice department, homeland security, civil right groups and other legal experts.……

That's the whole Republican platform: do nothing, especially the nothing that hurts the country and makes the Democrats look bad.

Republicans have the House majority but have passed the fewest bills of any first year Congress. They're getting absolutely nothing done, and that's by design because Republicans don't have any ideas to run on except "whatever the Democratic Party wants, we don't."

So true. But there is one more guiding principle for them- if Trump wants us to do it, we jump to attention.

What difference a year makes... last year, didn't actually go to the bus station to welcome immigrants, and said NYC was proud to be a "shelter city" or something like that?

Biden has been scrupulous about the separation between him and his DOJ? 🤣 🤣 🤣

The NY law that the frivolous lawsuit is based on seems like an easy target to get challenged in court.

I'm not sure why they think they can curtail interstate commerce and the bus companies aren't liable for the people they transport.

I'm guessing a lawsuit isn't expected for the Biden Administration flying in migrants into NY.

oh, gee they cut the clip off in the middle of his sentence. Why do you suppose they did that?

Yes, people seeking asylum are released. That’s the way the system has been set up. It’s not changed in a very long time. They are not illegal immigrants, however, by definition. And Rs have actually refused to give Biden more money for more border agents, more immigration judges, etc.

Yes, Biden has been scrupulous. What you cited is a an anonymous source saying that Biden is privately frustrated with the slow pace of the DOJ. It specifically says he has not communicated this to Garland. Do you ever read what you post?

    Got a decent source?

This article is from April of 2022. It references the coming giant wave of crossings when the pandemic restrictions were lifted, that never happened.

Plus, it’s one thing to move migrants with the cooperation and knowledge of local officials, it’s quite another to put people out in the middle of nowhere in winter in light clothes and flip flops with no advanced warning to local officials so they can take care of them.

I just saw this-I do remember that the US was negotiating with Mexico, but didn’t realize an agreement had been reached.

    Hopefully this is good news.

I am always wary of claims that take credit for drops in numbers during the winter and summer. There are always peaks in spring and fall and valleys in the summer and winter.

If this May is lower than last May, i will accept that something has changed.

I agree. Republicans have been horrible at using the power they screech for when they do get it.
Although I do, and maybe this is wishful thinking, see (hope) the new brand of "republicans' have learned from the left and will do exactly what they have done and been so successful with.

So how do we make life incrementally better for Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Mexico so that citizens of these countries desire to stay put and work/earn/live?
Why is it on the our country responsibility to make their country and it's citizens lives incrementally better?

Why is it on the our country responsibility to make their country and it's citizens lives incrementally better?

It's not our direct responsibility per se, maybe a partially shared responsibility with other countries that are stable and have stable economies and security. But if you want to actually solve the problem of mass migration, the answer is to make it better/safer for people where they currently live. Otherwise, those people are going to look for greener pastures, as anybody would do.
