A couple of days ago, one of the main US-MX border points of entry was blocked by 1000's of migrants demanding entry into the country, which caused chaos for those who lawfully cross the border on business, for work, or for delivery of goods, both ways.

Lawful border crossings are getting progressively worse across the border, and drug cartels are finding it easier to move product, as the CBP has to transfer personnel and efforts to the processing of migrants.

It's not different on MX's South border. Yesterday, ~5000 migrants stormed into Chiapas all the way to the INM building (INM is immigration) running over fences, barricades, and elements of the National Guard. They are now taking over an ecological park in Tapachula, Chiapas, which it's going to be severely affected, as it's been the case with just about everywhere migrants squat.

Unfortunately, Juan Trump (that's Donald Trump's pet name for the President of México) was bamboozled by his "friend" Donald into making MX a "lobby" for migrants trying to reach the U.S.

Many people would argue that migrants are "good for the economy", but that is not always the case. Billions of dollars leave the U.S. economy every year, because migrants send money from the U.S. to other countries to support families there. The biggest destinations are India and MX, to the tune of 100 billion dollars in 2023 alone, according to the Bank of México (kind of like the MX version of the Fed). These billions of dollars do not circulate in the U.S. economy.

Speaking of inflation, the past year, the U.S. dollar has lost ~20% of its value against the MX peso. One of the main reasons for it, is the amount of money being sent to MX from the U.S. And MX is the U.S. 2nd largest trading partner.

Gregg Abbott is a lot of things, but I don't blame him for his attempts at curbing the hordes of people demanding entry into the U.S., even the busing of migrants to other States, making some put their money where their mouth is, like the Mayor of NYC, who was so welcoming of migrants, until he he got a taste, then went crying to the federal government for more money, while the shelters were at full capacity; shelters which BTW serve the NYC poor as well.

And please, no one mention a wall. There is a wall. A wall can be climbed; a wall can be dug under.; holes can be punched through walls.

correct, so they'll just stay here illegally instead of trying to become legal. What would be the negative of still letting them apply?

You are asking for one particular point when this is an issue that has to be looked at as a whole, but anyway, the cost on both sides of the border, the problems (social, logistic, criminal, etc) on both sides of the border, not only problems for businesses, but individuals as well, the security concerns on both sides of the border...

wouldn't you prefer if someone was here illegally to want to become legal? especially if they have become a productive member of society? or would you prefer them to stay here illegally for as long as possible?
i'm 50 years old. There has never been a time when illegals have't come across the border bascially anytime they want. I can guantee you it isn't gonna change in the next 50 years.

One of the aspects of the immigration discussion, is the "romancification" (for lack of a better word) of the immigrant. And talking about people who have been in a country illegally for an extended period of time is a different topic from dealing with battalions of people marching through MX to the U.S. border to ask for "asylum".

Rs are just coming out and saying they don’t want to do anything about the border because they’re afraid it will help Biden.

Republicans have been hammering the Biden administration's immigration policy since the moment he took office. Now, with the clamor for a deal to curb the flow of migrants through the southern border at a fever pitch, a bipartisan Senate deal may be dead on arrival in the House - and on Wednesday Rep. Troy Nehls made clear that the reason is purely political.

"Let me tell you, I'm not willing to do too damn much right now to help a Democrat and to help Joe Biden's approval rating," Nehls told CNN on Wednesday. "I will not help the Democrats try to improve this man's dismal approval ratings. I'm not going to do it. Why would I? Chuck Schumer has had HR 2 on his desk since July. And he did nothing with it."

For weeks now, a bipartisan group of senators has been working to craft a deal that would tie increased border security measures to emergency military aid for Israel and Ukraine. On Wednesday, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer told reporters that lawmakers in the upper chamber are "closer than we have been" to finalizing an agreement. "Everyone's going to have to give something to get this done. No one can just get his or her own way," he said.

Border security is a central pillar of the GOP's 2024 strategy, but it's Nehls' comments that lay bare House Republicans' ultimate guiding light in their governance strategy: helping Trump defeat President Joe Biden. In December, Nehls made a similar revelation when he was recorded on video, obtained exclusively by Rolling Stone, saying "Donald J. Trump 2024, baby!" in response to a question on what the GOP was hoping to gain from an impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden.............

Biden didn't seem to have any interest in fixing the border until he couldn't get more Ukraine money passed in Congress.
Well, that simply isn’t accurate. But yes, the Rs holding needed aid for Ukraine hostage has made him willing to make some compromises with Rs.

But now, as it turns out, when he has called their bluff, they don’t want to fix the border, do they?

They know he has no interest in fixing the border. It's all about more Ukraine money.

Simply inaccurate again. He‘s not doing what they want done, but he has been doing things. Once again, he is offering compromises but they aren’t interested and at least one has come right out and said it’s because they don’t want to help Biden. To hell with the border is what that says.

This is so flimsy. They’ve been screaming about it, until Biden called their bluff. Now they are squirming.

did you look at that clip? I am very suspicious that is correctly quoted within the context of the discussion. It’s suspicious merely for the fact he doesn’t include a link.
That's another thing you do. Act as if something is taken out of context with nothing indicating it was. You've done that quite a few times with that reporter because you disagree with what he's saying.

🤣 🤣 🤣. Do you really expect anyone to think Biden wants to fix the border short of amnesty?

I understand that the federal government hold the power on immigration, but what are border states left to do when Biden users his discretionary power on immigration to let more people in?

He's only "interested" now to get more Ukraine money.

You’re the one who posted it. Provide us the link so we can see for ourselves.

Biden isn’t suing TX, the DOJ is. Do you know why? Because TX law enforcement has arrested US citizens in their ham-handed efforts. They are like loose canons out there and don’t know what they are doing. That is what is called “context”.
