Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

Is it still considered a democracy when the elites rig the process so they can decide for the voters who the nominee will be?

If you are a protector of democracy you don't pick and choose what parts you want to protect and which parts you can ignore.
Did the DNC break the rules of their primaries. If a candidate steps down, this is the process that is taken. I personally would have preferred Biden to announce he wasn’t running last year so we could have a full slate of candidates to choose from. Every democrat I’ve spoken to about what has happened hasn’t said no, this shouldn’t happen.
This process is the DNC process, you aren’t a democrat so your opinion doesn’t matter.
Question for you, do you think the 2020 Election was rigged and Trump really won? Yes/No.

Only in the mind of a true conspiratorial can you turn "President who steps down due to obvious decline" - in July of an election year no less -into "Rigging"

Nobody is stopping anybody from running now.

But it would be a giant waste of time because the party at every level has spoken.

None of those hypothetical people who are hypothetically being held down would have received a single primary vote either; so that is just dumb btw.

He stepped down. On his own. Doesn't matter how much pressure or whatever he received. He still made the final decision himself.

But why Kamala? That was organic. You don't have that kind of response at every level including the voters.

I don't think anybody saw $80 million, in small donations, in 24 hours coming. Who is going to challenge that?

That is the voters speaking with their actual wallets.

The delegates have pledged enough support we have a candidate and presumptive nominee heading into our convention which will be well watched.

I can see why you would try to find any reason that is a bad thing.

Your guy wears diapers and can't put a sentence together.

And those are his good points.

Not sure I can agree. This is the standard for when a candidate withdraws. The crazy proposals for “mini-primaries” and even worse the TV town halls were deviating from the standard. This is what the process lays out for this situation. The situation itself is less than ideal, but the DNC is following protocol IMO.

Fair enough... my preferred standard/process by which a nominee emerges is to debate, compare, contrast, and vote for said person(s).

We will be navigating uncharted waters in the days ahead. But I have extraordinary confidence that the leaders of our party will be able to create a process from which an outstanding nominee emerges.

Obama - 2 days ago - Never mentions KH

I said the situation was less than ideal... and they put themselves in that situation where the ideal process (a voting/democratic process) for an outstanding nominee to emerge was taken off the table... and KH was inserted out of necessity.

What Trump, Republicans and you are trying to do is going to tremendously backfire with a comfortable majority of voters. I'm glad this is the path you all chose. Don't deviate from it and please scream louder so everyone in America hears you.

I think Obama’s statement was inartful. I suspect he was siding at least a little bit with the pundits and donors who were agitating for the deviations I mentioned above. I was disappointed in his statement being worded in that way. I do expect he will endorse Kamala once she is the nominee.

The jump to Kamala was largely organic, IMO, after Biden endorsed her. Huge grass roots donations, huge amount of people volunteering. The sense of relief among people who intend to vote for the Democratic candidate is palpable.

Donors have largely acquiesced today. I saw only one who has said he is walking away because he wanted someone else.

1. She will receive the votes of the delegates
2. Agreed
3. My point was "would they have chosen her in an open primary voting setting that included other options"? We will never know... no one was given the opportunity or choice.
4. Also agree... if you are voting for DJT... why would you GAD?
#3 is an interesting thing to look at. In an open primary, as the sitting VP and with the endorsement of the current President it's still probably 50/50 at best Harris vs. the field, but at this stage in the game there's really no choice but Harris -- but also no choice for Harris but to accept the responsibility laid in front of her.

And I think that's why there doesn't seem to be anyone who wants to challenge her for it and why she's also rallying strong support. Cynics will say she's been annointed by "the elites," but the sense I get is that she's been drafted into the position by very unique circumstances, and if she can project that she's doing this out of duty as opposed to personal ambition it will go a long way for her in November.

It's not just Trump supporters making the claim. Even Black Lives Matters is criticizing the process.

Once again, if I were a Democrat I would support what they are doing because there aren't any good options. But don't think that anyone will take you seriously when you can claim you are protecting democracy if you do things like this.

Monday
•Kamala Harris continues making calls to party delegates.
•Kamala Harris makes two public speeches.
•AP announces Kamala Harris has secured enough delegates to be the Democratic Nominee (Monday night).
•Kamala Harris releases this statement, noting she has worked hard to “go out and earn this nomination” as promised (Monday night).

A 24-hour process of talking to party bosses is not democratic, nor is it a process Democrats should be proud of. We do not live in a dictatorship. Delegates are not oligarchs.

Installing Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee and an unknown vice president without any public voting process would make the modern Democratic Party a party of hypocrites.

We call on the @DNC to create a process that allows for public participation in the nomination process, not just a nomination by party delegates.

The Vice President isn't on the tickets for the presidential primary.

As Glenn talks about, the elites controlled the process and they picked the candidate.

but now they have chosen his replacement without any consultation on the part of the voters."

Elites you say?

like Trump asking Oil Executives for $1,000,000,000 in campaign contributions in return for some executive orders opening up profits for them?

your hypocrisy has no boundaries when it comes to your party.

As ive said since ive known the Republican party- "Its OK when WE do it"

Yeah I thought an announcement was made regarding tweet posting, but I guess it’s not going to be enforced.
I made the announcement by posting a reply and copying it within several threads; it will be enforced. However, don't assume that I will see the offending post/s in question. Report them, and I will deal with them when I view the reported posts each day.

I spend most of my MAP time linking articles on the news page and don't spend much time reading these political threads, so I count on our good members to report issues.

So, which tweets are you eluding to? I'm not going to read through six pages to find it/them. I have work to do.

By the way, it is not a good idea to call out moderation on the public boards, especially when it includes snarky commentary.

From Harris's campaign feed. I remember her doing this.

I knew one of the couples who were married hours later due to her ruling. I say knew because they have both since passed, They ended their lives being happily married, like as if they were ordinary people.

Should be looked at. If it is truly 13 users then it will be a nothing burger.
However Elmo happens to privately own a company and he is actively supporting a competing campaign. Worth taking a look. If it was George Soros, you and your red hat friends would have the pitchforks out.
Do you think Musk is involved in the day to day workings of X?

Does anyone else find it interesting that the DNC convention this year is being held in Chicago, the same place that the 1968 DNC convention took place, and that the circumstances surrounding both conventions is similar?

Any thoughts on if things could play out similarly inside (or outside) of the convention?
