Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

The day that wokeness died. That has been one of the primary analyses of Donald Trump’s resounding election victory: that it was a resounding rejection of the “woke” left and the casting off of the shackles of political correctness.

According to sections of the media and political establishment, people are tired of being harangued and scolded for not using the right language, annoyed by a constant focus on race and identity, and alarmed by a new orthodoxy of radical politics eager to please individual groups at the expense of common sense.

“The era,” summarised one British journalist, “of Black Lives Matter, Latinx, critical race theory, pronouns and defunding the police is over.”

It’s a neat conclusion – it’s hard not to see this result as a rejection of something. But was that something “woke” values in particular?

As a starting point, it is worth looking at Kamala Harris’s campaign rather than the assumptions about it. In reality, she seemed to avoid any focus on identity and “wokeness”.

She didn’t make much of her race, or even her gender, choosing instead to ground her identity in her background as a middle-class person raised in a rental household by a hardworking mother.

Her position on race softened from when she was running in 2019: she previously backed “some form” of reparations but did not stake out a position as part of her bid.

Trump wanted Harris “to say something to turn off white voters. She was wise not to take the bait,” wrote the author Keith Boykin.

She was hardline on immigration, keen to show that she is a gun owner (memorably telling Oprah Winfrey: “If someone breaks into my house they’re getting shot”). And she was evasive on gender-affirming care for transgender Americans.

And so this narrative of succumbing to “Big Woke”, according to the American journalist Jack Mirkinson, “bears virtually no resemblance to the actual campaign we all just suffered through”.

Woke talking points were a key part not of Harris’s campaign but of Trump’s – he said that Harris suddenly “became a Black person” to capitalise on her race, and his campaign spent millions on ads about transgender rights.

Welcome to the culture war – where only the right is really fighting, and the other side is helping it out by punching itself in the face.……

It's all hot air. The national debt skyrocketed under Trump last time he was in office.

He might eliminate taxes for the ultra wealthy completely. Which will be fun to see "the centrist" on the board try and defend.

Republicans have never cared about the debt.
They acted like they cared for decades, but now that particular part of the charade is over. With that, the true agenda revealed itself, catering to the wealthy, to hold power. What are us sheep going to do about it, “baa” loudly? 😳

It's odd, how the deficit moves. Since 1980, we've had 5 official recessions. The 2008 crash and 2020 pandemic are self evident. It's really odd that after Reagan's tax cuts, Bush jr's, and Trump's, we get this massive slide in the deficit. I wonder, if we take away revenue, how does that affect the balance between revenue and spending aka deficit? I also wonder, taking away government spending...how does that affect gdp? I wonder...

But the odd thing, to say, "I care about the deficit, and that we need to start looking at how we spend the revenue" isn't a complete question is it? It's like the imbalance is artificially generated to invoke angst in some that we're heading off the cliff. <Cough> who was that republican czar behind the scenes back in the late 90's and early 2000s that made republicans sign that pledge again? <Cough> He even stated he wanted to cut revenue so that a scenario necessitate spending cuts. <Cough>

    The strategy:

Spoiler alert, norquist and his Allegiance pledge.

No, they are not. Deficits are caused by cutting Revenue. Only a fool believes any report by private sector economists.
High rates, low rates, tax increases, tax cuts, they are relatively insignificant when you look at historical revenues.

The problem is social security and Medicare and the only fix is to eliminate the cap.

And it wouldn’t hurt to trim the government fat by a trillion dollars or so.

The problem is revenue, period. It is not social security and Medicare. Sure, eliminating the cap needs to be done. Destroying the Reagan, Bush2 and Trump tax cuts should also be done. And if idiots like Thiel or Musk complain? Well, they have had the luck to live here and get rich by living here.

So, confiscate their assets and pitch them out of the country.

And like all conservatives you comment about “trimming fat”, “cutting waste” blah, blah, blah. All without saying what and where you would cut and what would happen when cuts are made.

Tell you what…let’s off load programs onto the states with zero federal dollars. Think Florida or Texas will survive the next hurricane season? The cockroaches will suddenly plead for money. I am tired of these anti-American azzhats.

President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden will attend Donald Trump’s inauguration in January, a White House spokesperson said on Monday.

“The president promised that he would attend the inauguration of whomever won the election,” said Andrew Bates, senior deputy press secretary at the White House, Reuters reported.

“He and the First Lady are going to honor that promise and attend the inauguration.”

The president-elect did not attend Biden’s inauguration in January 2021, which came days after the January 6 attack on the US Capitol.

Earlier this month, the US president welcomedTrump back to the White House – another tradition Trump eschewed after losing the 2020 election- with Biden promising a transfer of power that is “as smooth as it can get”.

“We’re looking forward to having, like we said, a smooth transition. We’ll do everything we can to make sure you’re accommodated, what you need, and we’re going to get a chance to talk about some of that today,” Biden said earlier this month. “Welcome back.”…….

ATLANTA (AP) — As she checked into a recent flight to Mexico for vacation, Teja Smith chuckled at the idea of joining another Women’s March on Washington.

As a Black woman, she just couldn’t see herself helping to replicate the largest act of resistance against then-President Donald Trump’s first term in January 2017. Even in an election this year where Trump questioned his opponent’s race, held rallies featuring racist insults and falsely claimed Black migrants in Ohio were eating residents’ pets, he didn’t just win a second term. He became the first Republican in two decades to clinch the popular vote, although by a small margin.

“It’s like the people have spoken and this is what America looks like,” said Smith, the Los Angeles-based founder of the advocacy social media agency, Get Social. “And there’s not too much more fighting that you’re going to be able to do without losing your own sanity.”

After Trump was declared the winner over Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, many politically engaged Black women said they were so dismayed by the outcome that they were reassessing — but not completely abandoning — their enthusiasm for electoral politics and movement organizing.

Black women often carry much of the work of getting out the vote in their communities. They had vigorously supported the historic candidacy of Harris, who would have been the first woman of Black and South Asian descent to win the presidency.

Harris’ loss spurred a wave of Black women across social media resolving to prioritize themselves, before giving so much to a country that over and over has shown its indifference to their concerns.……

    The accelerationists are in charge.

We should just be focusing on being mentally prepared to adapt.

We aren’t going to impact what is coming. We can only try to make sure we ready to acccept it.

Suddenly Trump is listing Canada as sharing blame with Mexico for our immigration crisis?

People saying the stock market will tank tomorrow because of this announcement. Oh, and Ackman is lying. Trump says he will implement the tariffs on day 1.

I don’t think they’ll get implemented. Which is really bad that we have a leader where you have to even make these speculations. But I don’t think he’ll do it. He’ll claim the drug and immigration issue are getting better. That Canada and Mexico have given into his demands because he’s such a strong man. His fanatics will believe him. Boom strong man trump just solved the drug and immigration problem.

Let’s hope so. I think he’s just stupid and vain enough to do it so he “looks tough”. I just wonder why Canada is included all of a sudden?

We’ll see how long it takes for the first allegations of a toxic workplace and/or sexual harassment surface and who it will be against

Former Trump White House official Olivia Troye has issued a stark warning for women entering the incoming administration.

“TheTrump White House’s chauvinistic male-dominated culture will be exacerbated by the presence of Elon Musk, JD Vance, Donald Trump Jr., Matt Gaetz, Pete Hegseth, and other ‘bros’ in positions of authority or influence,” Troye, who served as former Vice President Mike Pence’s national security adviser, wroteon her Substack on Thursday.

“It will be an intimidating environment, but stay true to your values, even when it is uncomfortable or unpopular. Remember, you have only yourself to face in the mirror every day.”………

But inciting a riot at the Capitol can be overlooked and forgiven
    ==========

A Democratic megadonor has said the Harris campaign’s $1.5 billion spending spree should disqualify the vice president “forever.”

John Morgan argued that those who donated to the Harris campaign were attempting to beat Trump, not elect the vice president, adding that the massive spending by the campaign should worry Democrats.

“All of a sudden, everybody’s got the keys to the candy store, ad buyers, talent consultants,” Morgan told NewsNation on Monday night. “There’s 100 days to do it, and the money started pouring in.”

The attorney claimed that “ego” and a craving to get commissions on placed ads motivated large parts of the spending spree.

Kamala Harris and her former running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, are set to speak to the Democratic National Committee’s finance directors. It has been reported that the campaign is $20 million in debt despite raising more than $1 billion.…..

In the weeks since the 2024 election ended,Democrats have been soul-searching about how Donald Trump was re-elected under a cloud of scandal and court cases. Was it the economy that did it? A weak Harris campaign?

For former Trump adviser Steve Bannon, the answer is pretty simple. The main difference maker was Elon Musk.

“Elon and I disagree on some things, but Elon deserves his place at the table,” Bannon recently told Puck. “He stroked a $150 million check for the ground game, which is not sexy, at the exact moment we needed it. He came in with the money and the professionals. To be brutally frank, it’s the reason we won.”

The tech billionaire’s support means more than just money though, according to Bannon.

“This is what I like about Elon Musk. He and Vivek are talking about what we’ve been preaching on the War Room for years,” Bannon added, referencing his radio show. “They are down in the trenches with the hard part of how you actually start to turn the country around. That’s what I appreciate.”……..
