Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

They want us to quit calling them weird, but they won’t quit saying weird things. And some misogyny thrown in just for fun. They are spinning out of control. I love to see it.

People are so tired of Trump’s childish name-calling, weird stories about windmills and electric boats. We’re tired of calling America a stupid country, saying that everyone who doesn’t support him is corrupt and a criminal when we know exactly who the criminal is in this race.

I love the dime store reverse psychology “if you’re a man” stuff. Newsflash dipstick - neither men nor women vote for someone “just” because of that person’s gender. I wonder if Watters is that ignorant when he’s with his family and not in front of a Fox “News” camera.

That's certainly your opinion. My opinion is that we are all very capable of chewing gum and walking at the same time. Harris's campaign is effectively hitting on the issues while all of her supporters are both self-identifying themselves and support for her an her issues. If you listen to any of the various zooms, they talked moral and policy issues more than anything else.
I agree. I see absolutely no “identity politics” in the overall vibe or message so far.

Well, while he was married with 2 young daughters he decided to go out to the parking lot at Fox and flatten a co-workers’ tires because he was flirting with her and wanted to offer her a ride to her place after work. So that may give you an idea of the type of “man” he is.

No wonder he’s a Fox “News” star. Also, pretty weird behavior.

Do you recognize any cultural ties to this image? I’m stuck, but I’m more science than literature. What is the context? A knight with a huge bunny?
The hare has different meanings in different cultures. It looks like they are using the Christianized meaning of the hare that was adapted from the nature mysticism of the Western European cultures, like the Celtic Druids. The hare represented fertility to some in the sense of the constantly renewing circle of life. Christians changed the mysticism legends a bit to make the hare the symbol of Christ's resurrection, thus the Easter bunny.

The knight image seems to be trying to equate Trump specifically with Galahad of the King Arthur lore. Galahad was considered the only pure knight and he was one of the three knights who found the Holy Grail. So I think they are trying to depict Trump as a pure knight who has found/brought about the second coming of Christ, the hare. They've been literally saying that Trump is Christ's chosen champion to lead us into the second coming of Christ. I think this is someone's metaphorical portrayal of that.

So far, it seems like the GOP is trying misogyny, racism, the "radical leftist" label, and "border czar" to attack Kamala. Only the last one has to do with actual policy, yet it completely misrepresents facts, and is designed to target the rubes who think the Democrats are somehow importing voters.

In other words, they got nothing.

The funny thing is the "weird" label is sticking better than anything else has... the Trump cultists and Trump himself hate it. They'd rather be called evil, or a dictator or anything else - but weird seems to pierce the veil better than anything else.
Just my two cents on the issue. Evil and dictator both have the associations of being powerful and threatening. Weird doesn't have that. Weird has the association of being odd, weak and harmless. Evil and dictator you have to take seriously and pay attention to. Weird is something you can laugh about dismissively and never give it any serious attention.

That's why Trump and his minions hate it. Trump and them do everything they can to keep people from laughing about them dismissively and not giving them any serious attention.

The message to me is I'm a black woman, I'm a black man, I'm an Asian woman, I'm a white man, and we are all support Harris, together as one nation and one community.
Our "identity" is that we even if we don't all fully embrace her message and vision, we all fully reject his. That's our identity.

This is just so messed up. Looking at his actions, listening to his words, he is the complete opposite of Christ-like. A person would basically have to forget, wipe out, (deny) all of Jesus' teachings to get a place where Donald Trump is your idol. Who would want you to erase everything you've learned in Sunday School? Seriously messed up.

The scary thing is the fanaticism behind this Trump worship by so-called Christians.

And another racist / misogynist attack. He just cannot help himself. Oh, and before SFL comes in and says ‘he didn’t say that’ - he said she would be taken advantage of for a reason he didn’t want to say, but a lot of people understand it. That right there is a textbook dogwhistle.

Translated: "Women are weak - to a lot of people's understanding. Particularly mine."

But we should also talk about how he was sitting in the dunker's spot while Laura tries to throw him lob after lob, which he handled like you'd expect if you were trying to lob to a 6 year old for a dunk.

It is messed up. If Trump has any role in the biblical second coming of Christ, then it's either as the prostitute of Babylon or the antichrist.

According to the scripture, the antichrist has to conquer the world before Christ comes back, so it's plausible that some of Trump's more twisted Christian followers see him as the antichrist and only want him to conquer the world so Christ will come back. It would be similar to how some Christians only support Jewish people living in the West Bank, because that's also a prerequisite for the return of Christ.

I think Harris supporters are leaning too much into identity politics. These black women for Harris, then black men, then white men, then white women are steering this away from issues, and are off-putting. We went from a candidate with an immutable characteristic of old age to one of race and gender. Harris’ race isn’t that important, since we just recently had Obama. Being a woman is far more significant and historic, but that also shouldn’t be the focus. It’s okay to toot that some, but that shouldn’t be the focus. The focus needs to remain on Project 2025 and democracy, moderating Harris’ platform, and attacks on your opponents infirmity as it pertains to doing the job. We can’t afford to alienate moderates while Democracy is at stake. JD was a traditional Republican and Trump was a Democrat and now both are crazy MAGA authoritarians, so Harris can adjust some of her positions to win the middle, while still being more consistent and principled. She doesn’t have to over-adjust, because I think some of her left positions are good and popular, but anything that isn’t advocating authoritarianism and gutting democracy should be favored.

Republicans stepped into identity politics with the childless cat-lady comment, because that cuts across parties. That was hurting them, but Democrats leaning too much into identity politics isn’t a smart tactic. I’ve started hearing complaints about being attacked for race and mysogyny, but leaning into race and gender invites it. It is better to respond with issues and your opponents weaknesses, rather than expecting to be rewarded or even showing sensitivity for your inmutable characteristics. Trump’s attacks against Harris for characteristics that don’t affect her ability to do the job can benefit Harris if she doesn’t lean into victimhood complaints. Let them dig their own grave by being the better person.

Also this weird refrain seems like a weak and potentially counterproductive attack. Some people like weirdos, including a lot of Democrats. I bet there are more weird Democrats than Republicans, so it doesn’t resonate to me. It’s better to talk about cruel, short-sighted, and greedy people, because there are far more of those on the right. Or perhaps stick to the crazy radical authoritarian labels that I think were effective.
That sounds very Hubert Horatio Humphrey to me. A Minnesota Senator turned into a VP, then Presidential Candidate, lost to Nixon.
