Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

A district where Trump carried it in 2020, Harris is holding her own. (polls are probably underestimating her support, IMO)

Jon Stewart has admitted he finds Tony Hinchcliffe “very funny” following the comedian’s widely criticized remarks at Donald Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally.

On Monday (October 28), the Daily Show host dedicated his opening monologue to discussing the Republican presidential nominee’s rally in New York City on Sunday evening, which has since been condemned by celebrities and politicians alike for the many racist and vulgar remarks made by speakers at the event…..

As Stewart showed a clip from Hinchcliffe’s opening act, along with the multiple TV news anchors who subsequently criticized his jokes, the 61-year-old comedian took the opportunity to defend Hinchcliffe.

“Obviously, in retrospect, having a roast comedian come to a political rally a week before election day and roasting a key voting demographic, probably not the best decision by the campaign politically,” Stewart said. “But to be fair, the guy’s just really doing what he does.”

He then highlighted a video of Hinchcliffe’s set at the live Netflix comedy roast of Tom Brady, which took place earlier this year. Hinchcliffe has made a career out of writing jokes for celebrities on Comedy Central Roast, and offers brutal feedback to aspiring comedians on his podcast Kill Tony, which he co-hosts with Brian Redban.

After Stewart played a supercut of jokes from Hinchcliffe’s Roast of Tom Brady set, he couldn’t help but laugh at the controversial comedian’s segment.

“Yes, yes, of course, terrible, boo. There’s something wrong with me. I find that guy very funny. I’m sorry, I don’t know what to tell you,” Stewart admitted.……

The thing I don't get is how even in a racist way, the "joke" was funny or even a joke. It just came off as such a lame, stale racist line without any purpose in his "comedy" set. It wasn't even really controversial, just dumb.

One thing about us Puerto Ricans is that we LOVE our island. We my not love the government, corruptions and conditions, but we absolutely love the beauty of our island and our culture. It doesn't matter where we live. If it's one thing us Puerto Ricans do, it's keep our houses and our island clean. So even on an objective level, it's a truly beautiful place. So that "joke" doesn't even have an underlying nugget of truth for racist to exploit in a joke.

His joke about Latinos in general having more babies and not pulling out was still tinged with racism, given the place and context. But at least there was a little nugget of truth there that can make it funny in the right setting. Or at least there used to be, it's not as true nowadays with US Latinos.

From Twitter. Maybe a dem senate operative?

"Some one week out mostly vibes-based observations you didn't ask for:

    1. Kamala Harris has run an objectively very good campaign. Anyone asserting otherwise is being a hater or has an ax to grind. If she doesn't prevail, the caliber of campaign won't be why.

    2. In so many ways, this is not 2016 (or 2020). The electorate is different in ways that may not be reflected in most polling.

    3. The fact that frontline House Democrats aren't running around cursing their fates is a great signal (because those loves, respectfully, are quite easily bullied by their own shadows).

    4. Trump isn't actually good at this, but he's the best at doing this particular thing. That matters for where we go from here.

    5. Trump's ability to overturn a Harris victory is being very overstated. He will likely try, but the fear of it is more powerful than the actual ability to accomplish it this time around (and you'll recall that while the last attempt got a wee bit insurrectiony, it was ultimately a massive flop).

    6. My gut tells me we're going to know who our next president is very early next Wednesday morning.

    7. I'd rather be us than them.

Rest up. Don't doom! It'll be over soon and then we will decide what happens next. 💙

Edit: Richard Nixon says this guy is legit.
