Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

An advertising company removed a large billboard along an Ohio highway that depicted Vice President Kamala Harris in a vulgar way.

The billboard showed a fake image of the Democratic presidential nominee about to engage in a sex act surrounded by text that reads:

Kamala can’t talk right now. She’s at a baby shower.” It had been posted along a highway on Friday in Licking County, Ohio, but was removed on Sunday, Kennedy Outdoor Advertising told The Newark Advocate.
A Kennedy Outdoor Advertising spokesperson told the outlet the billboard was taken down “once it was brought to our attention how vulgar the advertisement actually was.”

The spokesperson, who remained anonymous due to fear of threats, said that his company didn’t see the crude aspect of it, but thought it portrayed the vice president as a “crybaby.”

“We don’t condone anything like that, not in any way whatsoever. Whether we agree with it politically or not, we would never agree to do anything like that. That was definitely a mistake,” the spokesperson continued. “We’re ashamed of it.”
RK Towing, a towing service in Newark, paid for the billboard, Kennedy Outdoor Advertising told The Newark Advocate. The Independent has reached out to RK Towing for comment…….

JD Vance has said he is “so over” people getting offended by racist jokes as he came out in defense of comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s controversial comments at Donald Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally.

At a campaign event in Racine, Wisconsin, on Monday, the Ohio senator weighed in on the widespread backlash to Hinchcliffe’s joke about Puerto Rico – a joke that the Trump campaign has since tried to distance itself from.

“I haven’t seen the joke. Maybe it’s a stupid racist joke, maybe it’s not,” Vance said.

“I’m not going to comment on the specifics of the joke, but I think that we have to stop getting so offended at every little thing in the United States of America. I’m just I’m so over it.”

“Can we all just take a chill pill and take a joke from time to time,” Vance added when an NBCreporter questioned him about the commnts. “This is ridiculous. We are not going to restore the greatness of American civilization if we get offended at every little thing.”……..

This billboard in Vegas is a better example of a positive message:

Donald Trump conjured up a bizarre story during his campaign rally about Marjorie Taylor Greene being blown to bits as she drove a hydrogen-powered car – all the while the Georgia Representative watched on from the audience.

The former president’s rally speeches have recently been filled with attacks on hydrogen fuel cell-powered vehicles, which are primarily made in Japan and South Korea, as he pledges to bolster the US automotive industry.

During an Atlanta, Georgia, rally on Monday evening, Trump once again trashed the electric vehicles with a story about their alleged risks – this time, placing the Georgia lawmaker behind the wheel.

“You’re not recognizable if something goes wrong. And Marjorie Taylor Greene with that beautiful blonde hair driving down the highway in a hydrogen car…,” he said of the Republican firebrand.

“And the problem with a hydrogen car, if something goes wrong, it’s like the atom bomb went off; you’re not recognizable.”

He continued: “They say, ‘We think we have it under control.’ That’s not good enough. They’ll say, ‘We thought it was Marjorie Taylor Greene riding down the turnpike. She’s no longer recognizable. We found some of her.’”

“I won’t say…,” Trump sniggered as he cut off his tale. “We love her. Stand up Marjorie, stand up.”……..

It was a lovefest, for people who love that kind of stuff
    =====================================

PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Donald Trump on Tuesday called his rally at New York’s Madison Square Garden, an event marked by crude and racist insults by several speakers, a “lovefest.”

That’s a term the former president also has used to reference the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Speaking to reporters and supporters at his Mar-a-Lago resort, Trump claimed “there’s never been an event so beautiful” as his Sunday night rally in his hometown of New York City.

“The love in that room. It was breathtaking,” he said. “It was like a lovefest, an absolute lovefest. And it was my honor to be involved.”..........

Donald Trump has a serious Puerto Rico problem — in Pennsylvania.

Many Puerto Rican voters in the state are furious about racist and demeaning comments delivered at a Trump rally. Some say their dismay is giving Kamala Harris a new opening to win over the state’s Latino voters, particularlynearly half a million Pennsylvanians of Puerto Rican descent.

Evidence of the backlash was immediate on Monday: A nonpartisan Puerto Rican group drafted a letter urging its members to oppose Trump on election day.

Other Puerto Rican voters were lighting up WhatsApp chats with reactions to the vulgar display and raising it in morning conversations at their bodegas.

Some are planning to protest Trump’s rally Tuesday in Allentown, a majority-Latino city with one of the largest Puerto Rican populations in the state.

And the arena Trump is speaking at is located in the middle of the city’s Puerto Rican neighborhood.

“It’s spreading like wildfire through the community,” said Norberto Dominguez, a precinct captain with the local Democratic party in Allentown, who noted his own family is half Republican and half Democratic voters.

“It’s not the smartest thing to do, to insult people — a large group of voters here in a swing state — and then go to their home asking for votes,” Dominguez said.

The timing couldn’t be worse for Trump. Almost a week before Election Day, he’s pushing to cut into Harris’ margins among Latinos, especially young men who are worried about the economy.

But the comments from pro-Trump comedian Tony Hinchcliffe Sunday night, referring to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage,” has reverberated throughout Pennsylvania and elsewhere, prompting even the former president’s Republican allies to defend the island and denounce the comments.

And with the race essentially a toss up, every vote counts — especially in Pennsylvania.

“This was just like a gift from the gods,” said Victor Martinez, an Allentown resident who owns the Spanish language radio station La Mega, noting some Puerto Rican voters in the area have been on the fence about voting at all.

“If we weren't engaged before, we're all paying attention now,” Martinez said. He added the morning radio show he hosts was chock-full of callers Monday sounding off on the Trump rally comments, including a Puerto Rican Trump supporter who is now telling people not to vote for the former president..............

As pointed out - party affiliations of early voting are less meaningful this year. In previous elections Rs were told to only vote on Election Day - this time they have been encouraged to vote early. I saw an analysis of voting numbers that said it appears early R voters are the same voters that used to vote on Election Day - not new voters. Musk is so narcissistic he has no clue what he doesn’t know.

And Dem party early voters still outnumber R early voters by a substantial margin, so comparing only the number of early R voters in 2024 to early R voters in 2020 is meaningless as all get out. The last figure I read was that about 388k more democrats than R had voted/returned ballots at this point.

There is a lot of data available on the PA early voting and the analysis I have seen is that it’s favorable to Harris - it’s showing something like a 400k “firewall” or voting lead going into Election Day. This is based on a few assumptions (including that each person returning a ballot will vote for the candidate of their party affiliation and that Independents break to Harris 70/30 based on historicals).

There have been daily analysis updates - I have seen this guy (and he’s basically just reposting Joshua Smithley’s analysis on X but yes it’s clear that R’s in PA are voting early much more than before but Iike you said, they only vote once whether it’s early or ED. The data can be tracked in terms of total registered

Most of the analysis I've read is that Republicans are in fact voting earlier this cycle... but none of them are new Republican voters (ie, they voted in the 2020 election)... so it's not like they're picking up new voters.

Also, polling of all early voters seems to indicate a bigger than normal share of Republicans are voting for Harris (normally about 4% of cross party voters, this cycle seems to be about 8-10% of early Republican voters are voting for Harris).
