Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

Why do they need to be persuaded? Why can't they just look at both candidates and choose the best one for the job?

I feel like people in the media and voters who are in the middle, and have decided to vote for Harris, are waiting for this magic bullet from the Harris campaign that will suddenly convince 70% of the voting public that Trump is a horrible person and should be nowhere near the presidency. But that moment or magic bullet is never going to come.

All of this wish casting upon Harris and her campaign for what they should and should not be doing is more a factor of people in the middle and the media dealing with the fact that half of our electorate lacks the critical thinking and moral fiber to recognize an obvious and dangerous fascist in Trump and reject him. It's people basically not wanting to admit that their family and friends that are supporting Trump are also fascist and want what he wants.

In other words, Trump’a fascist threats against media worked.

And Dr Soon-Shiong ( LA Times )

These guys, individually, have more money than Trump could ever dream of having, yet they fell in line. Over a "possibility" - not a guarantee.

Its access to/control of information ( both receiving and disseminating ) that they really covet. Its not the $$$.

Similar to a politician abstaining from a vote so as not to be seen as for/against.

ugh.

Speculation is that Bezos didn't want to risk Amazon's government contracts if Trump wins.
What a spineless jellyfish. I’m far from a socialist, but I’m beginning to think these butt crevasses just have way too much money and they are a threat to America.

The undecideds need to be persuaded because they will decide the election. It’s fine to keep talking about how horrible and dangerous Trump is, but that’s preaching to the choir of voters who have already come to that conclusion. The evidence is overwhelming on that, so that isn’t going to move undecideds. I contend that Harris hasn’t been clear about why her positions have changed. Her messaging on that has been poor. I’ve heard panels of undecideds stating that, and I agree with them. I’m voting for Harris, but that is a weakness in her campaign. She may win despite that, but I would feel better if she were to finally make an adjustment in her messaging, and if she loses, I believe that will be the main reason. It’s the only legitimate complaint that I can’t refute, and I’ve heard plenty of Harris supporters in the media say similar things.

This is interesting

New York (CNN) — For the first time in decades, The Washington Post will not endorse a candidate in this year’s presidential election, the newspaper’s publisher announced Friday

“The Washington Post will not be making an endorsement of a presidential candidate in this election. Nor in any future presidential election,” Will Lewis said in a published statement. “We are returning to our roots of not endorsing presidential candidates.”

The Post has endorsed a presidential candidate in every election since the 1980s. In his statement, Lewis referred to the Editorial Board’s past decisions to not endorse a candidate, noting that it is a right “we are going back to.”

“We recognize that this will be read in a range of ways, including as a tacit endorsement of one candidate, or as a condemnation of another, or as an abdication of responsibility. That is inevitable,” Lewis continued.

“We don’t see it that way. We see it as consistent with the values The Post has always stood for and what we hope for in a leader: character and courage in service to the American ethic, veneration for the rule of law, and respect for human freedom in all its aspects.”…….

…….The decision by the Post’s leaders not to endorse any candidate in an election widely seen as the most consequential in recent US history triggered outrage among some prominent current and ex-staffers, and other notable figures.

Marty Baron, the former executive editor of the Washington Post, criticized the newspaper’s decision, calling it “cowardice, with democracy as its casualty”.

Donald Trump, Baron said, will “see this as an invitation to further intimidate the owner” of the Washington Post, the billionaire Jeff Bezos. “Disturbing spinelessness at an institution famed for courage,” he added.

Susan Rice, the former US ambassador to the United Nations and former domestic policy adviser for the Biden administration, called the decision “hypocritical”.

“So much for ‘Democracy Dies in Darkness’,” she said, referring to the newspaper’s official slogan, adopted in 2017 under Bezos’s ownership. “This is the most hypocritical, chicken-shirt move from a publication that is supposed to hold people in power to account.”

David Moraniss, a Pulitzer-winning reporter and editor at the Post added: “The paper I’ve loved working at for 47 years is dying in darkness.” Multiple outlets have also reported that Robert Kagan, the newspaper’s editor at large, has decided to resign from the editorial board following the announcement of the paper not to endorse in the presidential race.……..

Lewis added that not endorsing was, in his view, also a statement in support of readers’ ability to make up their own minds on the most consequential of American decisions – “whom to vote for as the next president”.

“Our job at the Washington Post is to provide through the newsroom non-partisan news for all Americans, and thought-provoking, reported views from our opinion team to help our readers make up their own minds,” he said, adding: “Most of all, our job as the newspaper of the capital city of the most important country in the world is to be independent.”

“And that is what we are and will be,” he concluded.

NPR reported that many Washington Post staffers were said to be “shocked” and their reaction “uniformly negative”.

The Washington Post Guild, the union that represents many of the paper’s staffers, said in a statement on Friday that it was “deeply concerned” by the newspaper’s decision, “especially a mere 11 days ahead of an immensely consequential election.……

Nearly 2,000 Los Angeles Times subscribers cancelled their subscriptions to the paper, citing “editorial content” reasons, after Patrick Soon-Shiong, the paper’s billionaire owner, refused to let its editorial board endorse Kamala Harris for president. And that was just on Tuesday and Wednesday.

After the paper’s editorials editor, Mariel Garza, resigned in protest on Wednesday, two more members of the Los Angeles Times editorial board resigned on Thursday.

Robert Greene, who won a Pulitzer Prize for the Los Angeles Times in 2021 for editorials on criminal justice reform, and Karin Klein, who wrote editorials about education and the environment, both told Semafor they were leaving the paper. Green specifically cited Soon-Shiong’s refusal to allow the paper to endorse a presidential candidate, as well as the owner’s subsequent comments about his decision.

The biotech billionaire, who bought the Los Angeles Times in 2018, told a local TV news station on Thursday that his goal in blocking the newspaper from endorsing a candidate for president this year was to be “less divisive”.

“I think my fear is, if we chose either one, that it would just add to the division,” Soon-Shiong told Spectrum News, noting he was a “registered independent”……..

Chinese hackers are believed to have targeted cellphones used by former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The Trump/Vance campaign was made aware this week that Trump and Vance are among several people whose phone numbers are believed to have been targeted and potentially compromised, the sources said.

It's not clear what, if any, access was gained to the devices. Investigators are working to determine that information, the sources told ABC News.

The FBI and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency released a statement on the hacks, but did not name the campaign. However, sources told ABC News the targets were the Trump/Vance campaign.

"The U.S. Government is investigating the unauthorized access to commercial telecommunications infrastructure by actors affiliated with the People’s Republic of China," the FBI and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency said in a statement. "After the FBI identified specific malicious activity targeting the sector, the FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) immediately notified affected companies, rendered technical assistance, and rapidly shared information to assist other potential victims."

Responding to the news, the Trump campaign is attempting to blame Vice President Kamala Harris and the Biden administration saying they are "emboldening China and Iran attacking critical American infrastructure, to prevent President Trump from returning to the White House."…….

am i reading right? she capturing, in early voting, around 15% of GOP votes?

That's his analysis based on polling of people who have already voted early. Either she's capturing about 80% of the undecideds (assuming "normal" party crossover of 4-5%), or she's getting 15% of Republicans, or some combination of the two. Either scenario is really, really good for Harris - since those numbers are likely to be similar across the states. If that's true, Harris wins big.

BUT - this is still speculative. It's based off polling done in AZ of people who have already voted, and then extrapolated based off of the voter registrations. I don't know the margin of error on that poll, etc.
