He doesn’t care about people who are racists - he only cares about who identifies with “his” team. If you’re racist and on his team, he’s just fine with it.

If you used to be KKK, repudiated them decades ago and spent the rest of your life making up for earlier racism, but you’re a Dem, then he will never acknowledge the change, but use it to smear other people who were never in the KKK.

He wants to be able to talk over her because he just can't let that woman speak freely without him being able to name call, lie or mansplain incoherently. If it devolves into mud wrestling match, he wins.

Harris is going to have to be prepared with a few catchy, deep searing one line attacks that will consume Trump and keep him off balance and agitated, but allow her to move on to making her point and responding to the question the host ask. Also, be prepared to respond with good retorts when he does happen to make salient attack.

Actually Trump wants the same rules as the debate against Biden, so he won't be able to talk over Harris. I know having the microphones off actually helps Trump a little, since he doesn't come off as a buffoon talking over Harris, but I think Trump is right on this. It is better to mute the mics of the one that isn't speaking. I would recommend a little more fact checking in real time. It won't be able to check everything, but some of the most egregious claims can be checked. I would love to see a challenge system where each candidate gets up to 5 challenges for fact checks, but if you lose a challenge, then you lose the remaining challenges. Also if a challenge is upheld, the offending candidate loses a challenge, and I would consider a loss being totally wrong, not just a half-truth or misleading statement. I don't care if this adds an hour to the debate. It would make it more substantive.

Dear god. Try to keep facts straight. Trump already backed out once, and tried to substitute a debate on Fox. When Harris wouldn’t buy it, Trump then said he would debate on ABC.

Now he is apparently talking about backing out again.

I don't believe anything that Trump says. Sure he says that he prefers them live, because that plays well to his supporters, but I don't think he wants it on, and certainly his team doesn't want them live. Regardless, having them muted is best to allow each to speak uninterrupted. I don't care whether it hurts Trump or not. I just want to hear as much substance as possible, which is likely to be little no matter what, but will be even less likely with live mics. I propose a challenge system to fact check outrageous claims.

It was obviously a set-up though. (and that’s an opinion, in case you cannot tell) because:

The question stated a lie. Harris didn’t say shirt about it. It was some other person. And Trump knew to ask who had been there years ago and the “reporter” knew it was Biden.

It was also said he only took that one question.

Who was the reporter who asked the question?

Also - did you realize that little campaign event is now under investigation in MI? It’s against the law for an on-duty police officer to appear in uniform for a political purpose and use public property.

It is classic everyone pointing fingers at each other. Harris didn’t require it but asked for it. She will still be there. Trump started getting upset about Tom Cottons interview on ABC yesterday and then we started seeing the talk about moving the debate from ABC by him. It is all posture to make themselves look better.
