I would like some layman answers to the question "How does Trump have so much support, right now"? The final two word are important context.

I somewhat understand how he became a "force" prior to the 2016 election. There were many factors that allowed him to gain steam. Anti-establishment and not being a true politician was a big turn on to some voters on the right at the time. He talked a good game and somehow found a way to the Presidency despite acting "unpresidential". Trump's time in office had some victories for the Republicans and the economy was humming prior to COVID.....but the shirt show that happened on a daily basis with him firing executive staff (that didn't agree with him) and the overall chaos that was the White House certainly should've had an effect on his supporters. This was all BEFORE losing the 2020 election and what ensued. What happened after the 2020 election is well documented and, in my opinion, should have buried him as a candidate for office for eternity.

With ALL of what happened since the 2020 election, how can he still have half of the country (give or take) as supporters? Had all the election denying, countless gaffs, and the attempt to circumvent the Constitution had not occurred and had he regrouped and formed a strategy to compete in 2024, I could see a lot of his supporters continuing to follow him and his message. But I can't get how so many Americans can overlook what happened in front of their own eyes. I am truly bewildered.

I realize this is a mostly left leaning community, so maybe you folks do not have a clue either but would like to hear opinions. Especially, if you still support Trump through all of the mess.

Asking me to weigh which lies and fabrications are more dangerous to the fabric of our country.... Is like asking me if I prefer to be pushed out of a plane at 30,000 ft or a helicopter at 10,000 ft... I choose to stay on the ground, and I am going to try to convince as many people as I can to join me.
The problem with that analogy is that, applying it here, you're not actually currently on the ground, you're falling from 30,000 ft like everyone else.

His analogy is a poor one and doesn't really lay out what the actual choices are. But eh, nothing gonna convince him otherwise.

    How about these...

Party X tells you that the border is secure, and there is no danger... Someone close to you is killed by someone that has crossed that border illegally... Party X tells you that abortion will not be banned nationally, and is left up to the state... Then someone close to you dies in child birth because they could not get an abortion in their state...

Which scenario Is clearly worse than the other...??? Your situation and point of view will most certainly determine that answer... And the current 2 party system puts us all in this situation.

That's just 1 example of the reality that exists in the current system... In both cases, someone close to me would still be alive given more sane non-partisan policies designed to protect people - Instead of policies designed to divide and farm votes... and no you are not going to convince me otherwise.

But I'm the butt crevasse for saying... I should not have to make a choice between one or the other. Okay...

Except Party 1 didn't tell you the border was secure and there was no danger. In fact, they joined bipartisan legislation to try and improve the border. So it's really...

"Party Y tells you that Party X says that the border is secure, and there is no danger... You buy that bullshirt because you want to believe in "BOFF' SIDEZZZZ" then someone close to you is killed by someone that has crossed that border illegally... Party Y tells you that abortion will not be banned nationally, and is left up to the state... Then someone close to you dies in childbirth because they could not get an abortion in their state..."

This doesn't sound like the border is secure and you're safe. It sounds like a discussion on how we improve the situation. Would we need 1500 more border patrol agents of it was all good?

The problem with these discussions, and why they are so unproductive, is it's just a game of shadowboxing misinformation.

The problem is that the Democrats put forward a bill to secure the border and support the pre-Roe paradigm. The Republicans shot down the border bill and are the ones currently stripping away abortion rights, and pushing for a national abortion ban.

    Try again.

Do you really think people should take you serious on this board?

You are a misinformed/uninformed person who hates the two party system. You are holding out until the constitution is rewritten so we have a parliamentary government.

This is going to come off as a massive diss, and I don't care. Are you troll? This has to be someone joking around.

Here's my misinformed/uninformed on that one...

    Key Facts:

Since President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas took office, there have been more than 9.5 million encounters nationwide and more than 7.8 million encounters at the Southwest border.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recorded 247,837 encounters nationwide in April, including 179,725 at the Southwest border (SWB). SWB encounters increased 5% compared to April of Fiscal Year (FY) 2021. Additionally, nearly 2 million known gotaways have evaded U.S. Border Patrol under this administration.
Since January 2023, 591,000 individuals have scheduled appointments with the app.
Since the program began, 434,800 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans have been mass paroled under the administration’s CHNV parole program.
Since FY21, 362 aliens on the terrorist watchlist have been caught crossing our Southwest border illegally.
Encounters at the northern border in April of FY24 increased 1,240% compared to April of FY21.

They have been saying the border is secure for 3 (since 2021) years... It has not been... This "doomed legislation" didn't fail until it was way too late in May of this year (Just after Laken Riley was killed in Feb of 2024)... People have died, this is not hypothetical...

I'll ask again... without the excuse partisan parade... even though I know it won't be answered honestly... Which scenario Is clearly worse than the other...??? I'll answer for you... Neither is acceptable... Nor should we be made to make such a choice... It's time to get past this... there's is no reason we can't resolve both.

posted this before about 3rd party voting

... and this is why Democrats lose elections, because people like this lady the people this lady is talking to are more concerned with what's happening on a strip of desert on the other side of the world, than concerned with what's happening in their own house, and why the U.S. is again under MAGA rule.

I showed you a video of Kamala talking about everything they needed on the border. What you're saying is simply false but when someone is so bought into a narrative showing them the truth is like throwing acid in their face. You're moving the goal posts to cling to your false narrative.

The position has been that our immigration system is broken. Kamala has been saying this since 2022. She did ONCE to Chuck Todd say the border is secure but the immigration system is broken, and she got torched for it and never said it again.

Your scenario is nonsense because your facts or nonsense because your position is nonsense. I'd be an idiot to waste valuable time answering your false nonsense that has already been disproven by a single video it took my me 15 seconds to find. Maybe someone else has the time to waste.

...and when did that lady ever express concern about what's happening over there above what is happening here?

She tried to explain how our government governs at a grade school level to a disillusioned 3rd party voter that chose to do so over our support of Israel.

You're really of the opinion you can't pass legislation in an election year. That's also somehow Democrats fault?

You have to be a troll. This can't be a serious opinion.

Can actually type out which party blocked the bill? Will your fingers actually type out the name of the party?

All of their words mean jack nuts to me... How many times did Mayorkas say it... Their actions say otherwise... same as the Red Hats... And we agree... you are wasting your time.

He is quoting Homeland security info, though.

I personally don't think the immigration system is broken. Rather, it is overwhelmed.

The Democratic solution seems to be spend more to basically get more people into the country faster. The Republican solution seems to be spend more to make it harder for people to get into the country.

For what we see, I feel the majority of the U.S. population prefers the latter.

Oh! I got that backwards :)
Thanks for pointing it out. I edited the post.

His statement was the Democrats tell you the border is secure and safe. They don't. That's the issue. He then moved the goalposts when he was easily proven wrong on that point to be is the border secure or not.

You and I have had long discussions on this and you know I agree with you and others that say we have a big problem. I have a different solution to the problem than you, although I agree with the holes you punched in my solution also, but what I'm pushing back on is the idea the Democrats are saying it's all good. Their solution may or may not be the right one, but they admit there's a problem and propose solutions.

He also doesn't understand that rhetoric, and legislation are two extremely different things.

Republicans love to campaign on the border. They have no vested interest in passing legislation. This was made apparent this year.

He has to create hypothetical scenario's were Republicans would actually pass a bill in odd numbered years. Then he can blame Democrats.

My whole point is that no one fixes any problem... That they can campaign on next year to divide and farm your vote... I blame both sides... They both play that game... It's a game that gets played at the expense of American lives... It will not change until we take these neat boxes they want to stuff everyone into... and burn them.

I couldn't care less about the rhetoric or toothless token legislation that gets tossed around in bad faith...

And neither of my scenarios were hypothetical...
