Elon Musk struck a deal on Monday to buy Twitter for roughly $44 billion, in a victory by the world’s richest man to take over the influential social network frequented by world leaders, celebrities and cultural trendsetters.

Twitter agreed to sell itself to Mr. Musk for $54.20 a share, a 38 percent premium over the company’s share price this month before he revealed he was the firm’s single largest shareholder. It would be the largest deal to take a company private — something Mr. Musk has said he will do with Twitter — in at least two decades, according to data compiled by Dealogic.

“Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated,” Mr. Musk said in a statement announcing the deal. “Twitter has tremendous potential — I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it.”

The deal, which has been unanimously approved by Twitter’s board, is expected to close this year, subject to a vote of Twitter shareholders and certain regulatory approvals.

The blockbuster agreement caps what had seemed an improbable attempt by the famously mercurial Mr. Musk, 50, to buy the social media company — and immediately raises questions about what he will do with the platform and how his actions will affect online speech globally.

If Musk does what he claims he wants to do it will be a big improvement and good for free speech.

Musk certainly don't like if you are posting facts to the MAGA lies...

My X account was just "limited" due to my actions which basically was only posting facts supported by links and sources when the MAGAs were spreading a lot of lies. Doing it very politely too :)

Looks like you need to yell. /s

I needed to turn my bs detector to 0 while reading that.

Putting this here because … Musk. This is quite possibly the worst vehicle ever made. And there are Musk fanboys who bought them and are trying to use them like they are real trucks.

Cybertruck will be on the opposite, facing page to the DeLorean in the encyclopedia of automobiles. The best that Cybertruck can hope for is to be the time travel vehicle when Back to the Future gets an inevitable reboot, even then Cybertruck will be the low quality knockoff.

there is one around the Gonzales area, i see it from time to time. they are ugly, i would never buy one. but I'd drive it if it was given to me..
of course i would slap a big ol Musk is a Moron sticker right across the back.. lol

So this probably doesn’t matter that much to anyone but me, but I want to clarify my thoughts and get this written down. Lately I have discovered there is the ability to request a community note on a post that is false or misleading. Don’t know how long that’s been there, I never noticed it before.

So I have taken to requesting them when I see accounts posting BS. But there are some accounts where the request form says “Tweet unavailable” where it usually shows the tweet. These tweets haven’t been deleted. You can see them and go back to them if you navigate away.

I suspect Musk has protected certain (extreme RW) accounts from Community Notes. No way to prove it, but I know that some posts that are absolute lies are not hit with Community Notes.

Musk would do that? I am shocked.

you should post that on Twitter and see if it gets flagged, if it does, you'll have your answer..

Elon Musk has used his large platform on X to promote a theory that a free-thinking “Republic” could only exist under the decision-making of “high status males” – and women or “low T men” would not be welcome in it.

On Sunday, Musk re-posted a screenshot of the theory – which appears to have been conceived on 4chan in 2021– on the social media site..........

Theories like this, which promote hegemonic masculinity, are often criticized for being sexist, exclusionary, not realistic and “toxic.” They are popular in alt-right communities.

“Interesting observation,” Musk said, in response to the post.

The screenshot of the theory was uploaded to X by an account called “AutismCapital” which often posts memes that appeal to right-wing individuals and support Musk’s endeavors.

It claimed the theory was “also known as the Reich effect” - seemingly a reference to Robert Reich, the former Secretary of Labor, who wrote an op-ed in The Guardian last week claiming that Musk is “out of control” and needs to be stopped.

Much of the account’s Sunday content was targeted at mocking Reich while defending the billionaire.

It is unclear if Musk re-posted the theory because he agreed with it or because it critized Reich. It’s not unlike Musk to dabble in controversial theories and misleading information on his social media platform................

So, Elon Musk, let us all know you're a "low T man" without using the phrase "I'm a 'low T man.'"

I'm assuming that "low T man" means "low 'tegridy man."
