They need to figure out how to get the rural votes...if that means toning down their fervent obsession with abortions to tilt more "Christian" then I'm all for it.

I'm not saying run on repealing Roe v Wade but convey a human stance on it and stop sounding like a bunch of serial abortionists using medical reasons as an "excuse*

It's not that, it's racial grievance based populism. If they move to the right on that they will drive down their minority vote.

The southern strategy still works and being on the left side of racial grievance politics puts you in a tough spot. Youtube isn't filled with people having abortion meltdowns and calling people baby killers, it's filled with people having racist meltdowns and calling people the n-word or to go back to their country.

I'd be all for running another left wing populist after Trump's gutted this country of civil liberties. I wish I could say the majority of Americans wouldn't vote for a racist, but here we are..
Biden is going to win the popular vote, not Trump. The majority of Americans did not and will not vote for Trump.

I guess the question is, and this is an honest question, does a more progressive candidate get more votes in rural white America or with Cubans (Florida)? Because that is what is happening here.

    Of course not.

But again, going high when your opponent is hunched over hitting you in the nuts...

Just speaking hypothetically: If Trump wins Florida, North Carolina and Ohio, but Biden wins Arizona, Biden is an 85 percent favorite in our scenario generator. There’s a 6 percent chance of an Electoral College tie, though.

While this quote makes me feel good, I swear to jeebus if I ever meet Nate silver I am going to punch him in his forking face and yell “what were the odds of that forker!?!”

It's been 100% on the Fox website for a while now. Like 52%-48% in favor of Biden. But Biden has caught up in VA anyway. So nothing to worry about there.

Makes me wonder who the hell CNN's decision desk is getting their info from.

Annnnnnddd on cue, Fairfax is reporting again.

I have to go to work early in the morning, so I am signing off. These results are bizarre to me. I just have to believe that they haven't added in some of the mail in/absentee ballots and the leads will shift. I will truly be shocked if Trump is within 50 electoral votes when this thing is over.

This won't be solved in our lifetime, or (probably) not your children's. Some things are too ingrained, which is sad.
I will say that Obama was very charismatic. HC and Biden were not as much. We're at a stage where a lot of people vote on their feelings, not facts. From science/climate change, to affairs, to felonies, as long as they BELIEVE something, they can dismiss the evidence as "fake news" etc

One way to get the rural votes, would be not to say you will shut down the country again, which the majority of people don't want to hear, and yes, cut the woke stuff.

I hear you, but I do think its a good bit of both. That said, I don't know what the answer is. I get the rationale for the angst, protesting and I fully support racial justice, but those rural voters saw all of the rioting and burning going on and I suspect that stuff scared them. It doesn't justify how they voted, but it did have an impact imo. I'm sure we'll be dissecting this a lot in the coming days regardless who wins. This shouldn't be this close, but here we are.

I specifically heard those two things mentioned by three people I know here in FL panhandle who all voted today for the first time in their lives.

Won't matter if he doesn't win the key states. 2016 all over again.
    That statement is true.

This statement is still not true "I wish I could say the majority of Americans wouldn't vote for a racist, but here we are.." The majority of Americans did not and will not vote for a racist. Trump is president because he won the obsolete electoral college vote, not because a majority of Americans voted for a racist.
