"At least 135 teachers and teachers’ aides have been arrested so far this year on child sex-related crimes in the U.S., ranging from child pornography to raping students.

An analysis conducted by Fox News Digital looked at local news stories week by week featuring arrests of teachers and teachers’ aides on child sex-related crimes in school districts across the country. Arrests that weren't publicized were not counted in the analysis, meaning the true number may well be higher.

The analysis found that at least 135 teachers and teachers’ aides have been arrested in 41 states between January 1 and May 13, which works out to about an arrest a day on average."

I said on this board a while ago that eventually that public education will over take the catholic church sex abuse scandal. While I not sure what will be bigger but the toll taken on kids demand we look into this. 135 educators in less than half a year. Terrible. I didn't know where to put this, so I created this thread.

"The Southern Baptist Convention is America’s largest Protestant denomination, with over 14 million members, and a powerhouse in conservative politics and culture. It is famed for its self-conception as an assembly of believers committed to righteous living according to a strict ethos based on biblical inerrancy. But in 2019, Southern Baptists were roiled by an elaborate investigative report from the Houston Chronicle and the San Antonio Express-News documenting 700 cases of sexual abuse by clergy and other employees of SBC churches: "

Was this to suggest that we shouldn't worry about it because the SBC is also harming kids? I don't understand your point here unless it is to protect the teachers in some way by attacking Christians?

    What was your point?

Yeah that seems like a lot - horrible.

Do we know how many arrests are in a typical year? Seems relevant.
I have no idea, I didn't see that number in the article. What is possibly more horrible is that these are just the ones that they were able to catch. Imagine the number that is not reported, covered up or buried? Maybe two fold?

What is your point? It is fine for teachers to be predators because the military has pedophiles as well?

Lots of excuses for certain pedophiles. Thank goodness it was not postal workers involved, this would be full meltdown.

Isn't this thread about child abuse? I'm pretty sure my post was about child abuse and the article I posted is particularly about an institution, SBC in this case, passing along known abusers to other churches just like the Catholic church. Didn't you reference the Catholic church? So I hit 2 out of 3 of your salient points. Not bad.

"Nearly one in four U.S. servicewomen reports being sexually assaulted in the military. Why has it been so difficult to change the culture?"

Sure. Point taken. The one thing that I think is important is that one is state sponsored and one is private. No one is forced to take their children or themselves for that matter to church, but a child is forced to go to school by the state and the state also prefers it it to be a state run school.

Also, children are not allowed in the military.

So as to avoid confusion, 'state' is meant as general government or government bureaucracies, not state governments.

Farb, have you never heard of homeschooling? You can also send your child to a private school as well. No one is forcing anyone to send their kids to public school.

Remember, when you're talking about teachers you need to factor in the number of students:

"How many students attended school in recent years?

In fall 2020, about 49.4 million students attended public schools in prekindergarten to grade 12, including ungraded students (source). Please note, these data are preliminary and are meant to provide readers with a timely release of basic enrollment estimates."

The numbers are astronomical. While even one case of child abuse is a very bad thing you have to wonder how many kids out of 49 million were abused? Probably not that many if we're talking about 135 teachers. It sounds more like a human nature problem rather than a teacher problem.

I feel like all this thread proves is that Farb doesn't understand the Catholic church child sex scandal.

Farb, go watch a movie called Spotlight. It has a great cast, and easy to follow.

I have. I am all for it. I am 100% of doing away with the government schools. Unfortunately, if you want to keep your kids out of public schools you get a bad wrap.

Do you think they managed to report and capture all child predators in the school systems? Not even close, by a long shot. So yeah, that is a good point, there are a lot more.

I think you want there to be a lot more for some unknown, to me anyway, reason. I think you want this to be a public school/teacher problem rather than a human nature problem that unfortunately occurs in every walk of life where children are in contact with adults.

LOL, Yeah, I understand it. What about it has to do the school system?

There seems to be a lot of trying to defend the pedo school teachers. Why is that? Do you expect me to defend the pedo priests or something or ignore it, since I have been discussing this for a while? I bet there are pedo in any organization. Should we just ignore it because there are pedo priests?
The logic doesn't follow unless it is for the defense of public school teachers.
Imagine the strawmen to attack if this was the number of pedo postal workers caught in 5 months time.

Then why not say that without attempting to defend the groomers? Why try and compare different 'walks of life'?

I do find it odd that since there has been light shed on the public school system from the public in the last few months, this happened. Just wait until more school systems are force to take this seriously.
