Everything I've seen and heard says that the split second Donald Trump is no longer president there will be flood of charges waiting for him

And if he resigns and Pence pardons him there are a ton of state charges as an understudy waiting in the wings if the fed charges can't perform

What do you think the likelihood of there being a jail sentence?

    In every movie and TV show I've ever seen, in every political thriller I've ever read about a criminal and corrupt president there is ALWAYS some version of;

"We can't do that to the country",

"A trial would tear the country apart",

"For the nation to heal we need to move on" etc.

    Would life imitate art?

Even with the charges, even with the proof the charges are true will the powers that be decide, "we can't do that to the country"?

"‘Gazpacho police’: Nazi gaffe lands Republican congresswoman in the soup

Marjorie Taylor Greene appears to confuse Hitler’s secret police with popular Spanish cold tomato soup

The extremist Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene triggered a wave of viral jokes on Wednesday after ranting about the “gazpacho police” patrolling the Capitol building in Washington DC.

Greene was apparently mixing up the famously cold Spanish soup gazpacho with the Gestapo – the brutal Nazi-era secret police in Germany.

The Georgia congresswoman has made numerous bigoted statements and her spreading of Covid misinformation has seen her ousted from Twitter. She made the most recent comments in an interview on Real America with Dan Ball, produced by the rightwing One America News Network television channel."
Uh, yea. That's entirely my point.

She's been saying moronic, racist, transphobic, inciteful things for years now, but for some reason she's still a congresswoman.

    This will blow over, too.

It isn’t against the law, or even the rules to be a congressperson, to be dumb as a bag of hammers. Ask Boebert the mouth breather.

shirt she walked terrorists through the capital on the 5th of January and nothing happened to her.

She met the requirements to be elected and nobody ran against her and her Q loving Jewish Lasers

How the hell is that our, the left's, fault? We aren't voting for her. The point is we're pointing out what a moron she is. That's all we can do.

It's not your fault. It's Democrats as a whole allowing themselves to be treated like bitches by the GQP if they say - or even think - anything slightly controversial, all the while letting the GQP and Trumpists spread conspiracy theories, give guided tours the day before they stormed the Capitol in Trump's name, etc. that is the problem. Democrats have been "taking the high road" and "not stooping to their level" for my entire adult life. Look what they've got to show for it.

The DNC needs to hold a special meeting for all democrats in Congress and teach them what what to do with the power when they have it because they've proven they don't know how to govern when they've got it and allow a minority to still control legislation when you've got both Houses of Congress and the White House. Playing nice also got us a generation or more of a supermajority far right SCOTUS. I wouldn't be surprised if Biden lets McConnell somehow postpone filling Bryer's seat until after the mid-terms.

And not even crickets from the Dems.

How did they get so completely godawful at politics?

Theory that they don’t want to look like it’s a political witch hunt

Or look like hypocrites (which the GOP never has a problem with) “you said it wasn’t a big deal with Clinton but NOW it’s a big deal?!”

Or trying to look like the adults in the room

I wasn't talking about what should happen in Congress between Republicans and the Democrats. I would agree that the Democrats in power should do whatever it takes. I was talking about not alienating the conservative voters any more than they already feel alienated. You don't vote for people like Trump unless you feel alienated, marginalized, etc., because that's what people like Trump feed off of.

I'm a firm believer in karma in all aspects of life except for politics. I know there shouldn't be any exceptions whatsoever, but I've watched corruption go unpunished and rather get rewarded instead for my entire life by politicians locally in New Orleans all the way up to the White House now with Trump.

Imagine if Democrats used the dirty tricks of Republicans ever since Clinton was in office, or whenever they controlled both houses but not the White House (pretty much whenever possible over the past three decades or so). Does anyone really think we'd be stuck in the lopsided state of affairs that we are in now? With an unhinged minority taking over one of the two major political parties and turning it into a cult based on conspiracy theories about the sex trafficking of minors in pizza parlor basements and Jewish Space Lasers causing wildfires...whose leader is a 330 pound conman who paints himself orange, only eats fast food, aspires to be an authoritarian strongman who can imprison or kill his "enemies" - both political and in the press - and has been a notorious scumbag charlatan who admitted to wanting to fork his own daughter when she was 13 on the Howard Stern show, has a documented history of racial discrimination as a slumlord, and quite literally tried to stage a coup to remain in power (IMO to remain shielded from prosecution) during which 150 cops were injured, some permanently, 5 or 6 killed by the mob who "backs the blue". We can't forget the MAGA martyr too.

At least it appears Mike Pence had some kind of super inspired come to Jesus moment or something and decided not to try to enact the plan laid out for him by Eastman. His aides did a whole bunch of talking to the 1/6 committee recently and also provided a lot of documents. And they didn't even have to go find them in Pence's basement or try to tape them back together! Imagine that! While Pence is assuredly doing this to protect himself and his future political prospects, if it gets this country one step closer to beginning to erase the feces Trump spread all over the White House walls, I'll be happy.

As much of a dolt as Pence seems to be, I never really questioned whether he'd waver in his ethical duty to protect country over party (read: administration) on 1/6. Why would he tie himself to a sinking ship and put himself in the crosshairs of this commission's probe when he'd managed to make it through 4 years without much of anything related to Trump's dirt sticking to him. He'd have been the biggest idiot in the history of history to have tried to overturn that election. Instead, he went so far as to add new language to the introduction they read every four years when they hold this stupid ceremonial counting of the electoral college votes to prevent any of the "alternate electors" that were fraudulently sent in from a few swing states from possibly being counted and certified.

Okay, at least Twitter was amusing after the news of the toilet broke:

No, he hasn't changed. He's just afraid that his way of life is being threatened, and it is. You're afraid your way of life is being threatened also, and you're right, it is. He believes he's in a fight between good and evil, just like you do. At the end of the day though I highly doubt you're any better or worse than he is, and I highly doubt he's any better or worse than you are. You're both just ignorant in different ways and if you two don't wake up we could all find ourselves in even bigger trouble than we're already in.

I'm an American. My way of life is being threatened by idiots trying to destroy our country and who are ignoring what the Constitution they praise actually says and by those who are too much of wimps to stand up and call out their stupidity.

There is no equivalence between me and someone who believes that support for a tyrant who tried to cancel the overwhelming electoral victory of Biden is acceptable.

One of the two of us is actually an idiot. And, it's not me.

That's just what he'd say. Now, of course, he's wrong, but you try and tell him that. He thinks you're wrong. And you aren't going to get anywhere by calling me a wimp for not calling him an idiot. That makes you an idiot.

To add to this is my girlfriend’s theory:

    Democrats tend to be “fair”

Something happens, looks bad (bad for the other side)

Democrats: We have a procedure and process for this and we’ll let that process play out. There’ll be an investigation and the results of that investigation will determine what the best course of action should be

Republicans don’t say that and certainly don’t do that. They instantly mobilize, they instantly craft a narrative and then they scream it from every mountaintop, street corner and in front of every news camera. They are Masters of testifying in the court of public opinion. Wait for investigation results? Ha!

EDIT - probably a million examples of this but think of the different party responses to Florida 2000 Bush v Gore, can you imagine if 2020 came down to one state and that state was as close as Florida was?

    Which is how you lose.

    Pardonnez-moi, but fork those voters.

It's an open secret that there are way more Democrats than Republicans. It's just that Dems go AWOL during midterms and in nearly all local elections.

The trick is to motivate them to get off their sodding arses and into the sodding voting booth.

yep, and we've talked about this exact point before
    =====================================================

    They also vote. Religiously.

The only way to do anything substantive about this is for the rest of us to vote.

They talk about taking our country back...that's how you do it. You vote in every election for every position from dog catcher to POTUS. Even the off-years. Even the special elections. Even when it's inconvenient.

    Bernie Sanders said:
When Voter Turnout is high, Democrats win, when turnout is low Republicans win.

I have actually been wanting to post this for a long time, I just never got around to it.

This has nothing to do with Trump, or ideologies, and I'm not looking for this conversation to get heated, It's something I've always wondered about

Taurus' quote is something that's been mentioned in many threads here over the years as well in the media

I saw an interview with Bernie last year (Bill Maher maybe?) when he said the above quote and it surprised me more than it should have

    Republican Voters vote

If they have the White House, they vote

If they don't have the White House, they vote

If they control Congress, they vote

If they don't control Congress they vote

If they are excited about their candidate/incumbent, they vote

If they are "meh" about their candidate/incumbent, they vote

If they think things are headed in the right direction, they vote

If they think things are headed in the wrong direction, they vote

    Why is that?

It seems to be pretty consistent across the board, as Taurus said in National elections, local, midterm, doesn't matter Republican turnout is always good

Anyone know why that is? and why democrat voters seem to have to be more excited than they've ever been for a massive turnout?
