Frankly, I'm completely ignorant when it comes to the Critical Race Theory curriculum. What is it, where does it come from, and is it legitimate? Has anyone here read it and maybe give a quick summary?

If this has been covered in another thread, then I missed it.

I actually agree with you here. Going on offense is infinitely better.

I liked Max Rose’s recent comment when asked about what his opponent had done that he would disagree with, and he said “besides supporting an insurrection?”
I like the comment now that I know about it. I had seen the news this morning that Rose is challenging Malliotakis to a rematch. But I hadn't seen his comment about insurrection.

I looked up her act of insurrection and it's a matters of visible public record, a fact, not an accusation:

"On January 6, 2021, Malliotakis objected to counting Arizona's and Pennsylvania's electoral votes in the 2020 presidential election based on disproved allegations of voter fraud and unconstitutional procedures."

A lifelong resident of Kingsport, Hawn was well aware his liberal views made him an outlier in his overwhelmingly White, mostly conservative community. But that had never mattered before. He had taught in the Sullivan County school system for 16 years without any trouble. And he had taught the class that got him fired, “Contemporary Issues,” for nearly a decade without a single parent complaint.

Then at the start of last school year, he made a pronouncement during a discussion about police shootings that would derail his career. White privilege, he told his nearly all-White class, is “a fact.”

Hawn apologized after at least one parent objected. But a few months later, he assigned the Ta-Nehisi Coates essay “The First White President,” spurring more parent complaints. This time school officials issued a letter of reprimand to Hawn for one-sided teaching.
After that, Hawn promised to stay away from the topic. But in late April, a student mentioned White privilege during a class discussion about the trial of Derek Chauvin — the White Minneapolis police officer who murdered George Floyd by kneeling on the Black man’s neck — and Hawn could not help himself. He navigated to YouTube and pulled up “White Privilege,” a scathing and profane four-minute poetry performance by Kyla Jenée Lacey.

    Not taught though
Nope. Not taught. Just like the article about this that was posted on Monday says, he didn't even know what CRT was until after he'd been fired.

So the dogma is the same but unless you use the term CRT, it is not the same thing? Makes no sense.

white privilage is a fact, I am a beneficiary of it all the time.
    Also White Privilage isn't CRT.
Very Maoist of you. Still waiting on proof of white privledge. Should not be hard to prove if it is indeed a fact.

Teaching kids that racism exists throughout history and CRT are not even close to the same thing. You know that, of course, but need to be angry and right.

Again, most people who argue against CRT do so because they think it means Criticizing Racist Thought -- any discussion of race that in any way discusses that racism has been a factor in the US is "CRT" to those white fragiles.

Except those that know exactly what it is and don't want it taught in schools. Like most voters in this country.

It is political and political ideology of victims and oppressors shouldn't be taught to kids. I know that might cut into the voting block of the left but so be it, that is just a delightful by product.

I feel like we end up talking past each other a lot. What is CRT to you, Farb? How do you define it and what do you think it teaches?

No, those that argue against it -- 99% of them -- have no idea what it is and just think it is anything where a white person might end up with their feelings hurt.

It certainly allows them to imagine something they're afraid of or hate, stalk around the house kicking things. When they've bruised their feeling good and bad they grow mad.

The basic story of human life.

The French "Humain" isn't necessarily, always, a pretty doily like thing.

Which is just another little bit of irony since having feelings is supposed to be weakness.

Oppressor and victim status based on skin color. Your turn. What is CRT to you?

No, it is setting up children to become victims or feel guilty over some thing they have no control over (skin color). It also helps in creating and maintaining identity politics which will be the down fall of this country. But the Dems get to win an election here or there.

Oppressor and victim status based on skin color. Your turn. What is CRT to you?

I like Encyclopedia Britannica's definition: "intellectual and social movement and loosely organized framework of legal analysis" and a "way of thinking about the world, especially the social norms and legal practices that govern society".

Richard Delgado, one of the founders of CRT, calls it "a collection of activists and scholars interested in studying and transforming the relationship among race, racism, and power".

It's not about oppression and victimhood. It's a critical analysis of the legal system through the lens of race.

That’s exactly what I said —you guys believe it’s any conversation about race where white people get their feelings hurt. If white people can in any way feel aggrieved or made to feel bad or somehow claim victimhood, then it’s CRT right?
