Frankly, I'm completely ignorant when it comes to the Critical Race Theory curriculum. What is it, where does it come from, and is it legitimate? Has anyone here read it and maybe give a quick summary?

If this has been covered in another thread, then I missed it.

good article on why CRT exploded this year, and just how obscure it really is
    =============================

I have forgotten more about race than most people have ever known.

Apologies if that sounds like braggadocio, but there’s a point that needs making. I’ve spent the better part of 40 years researching and writing about the history and dynamics of race in America — and 63 years living them. I know this terrain well.

Yet until maybe six months ago, I had never heard of “critical race theory.”

It has since become inescapable, of course — panicked Republicans marching in the streets under signs demanding, “Stop Critical Race Theory Now!” while states like Oklahoma, Texas, Florida and Tennessee rush to pass laws protecting children from its depredations. Nikki Haley believes critical race theory “is going to hold back generations of young people.” Author Mark Levin says it’s about “destroying the existing society.” Tucker Carlson calls it a “poison” that will end civilization as we know it.

One almost expects critical race theory to come lumbering over the horizon like Godzilla, swatting away fighter jets like gnats as grim-faced generals ponder the advisability of using nukes.

And yet — it bears repeating — as recently as January, this avowed expert in racial dynamics had never heard of it. Nor am I the only one. Last week, I surveyed a handful of people like me: African-American journalists with long experience in the field of race. Only one claimed detailed prior knowledge of critical race theory. As to the rest?

“Heard the phrase for the first time this year,” said one.

“I had heard the term vaguely,” said another.

    “NEVER,” said yet another.

Small wonder. A search of the Nexis database finds that the term “critical race theory” appeared in U.S. newspapers 1,361 times in the 21 years between January 2000 and New Year’s Day, 2021. It has appeared 6,000 times in the six months since............

The media controls the narrative. They can pick any subject and make it incredibly important.

Take the issue of racism. I have been in America since 1975 and experience discrimination during my first 10 years. However, I could see that with every year that passed the tolerance went up and the discrimination went down. That is my personal experience. If I was to watch TV I could easily think that racism is worse than ever.

As for CRT. I never heard about it till it became a thing in the media. I went to "You Tube" and watched interviews with the CRT guru Derrick Bell. He described it quite well and he is probably correct. This is a Western nation with Western values. Bell advocated marxism and this is obvious to anyone that listens to him. That may be why people worry about it.
    (That's the self-own.)
Derrick Bell, the maximum exponent of CRT was a marxist. The idea was to dismantle capitalism and the west,

Are you saying discrimination falls on the heels of the ones being discriminated against? If they just ignore it, it'll just go away... wow..

Black people just need to suck it up and accept the racists instead of calling them out... they will always be racists, so why fight it...???

Nope. I said that racism is less today than in the past. If you call out racism, make sure it is racism.

I don't agree with Republican state legislators making laws to ban CRT and I do think many conservatives are exaggerating CRT for political gains.

In most instances the Democrats have the high moral ground. Then, the progressives go crazy and go overboard with CRT type stuff. This basically causes the borderline voter to consider the Republicans.

If that causes a borderline voter to consider supporting the people who helped try to overthrow the government then they were not borderline to begin with.

Exactly, there are plenty of things I don't like about the democratic party but you have to be pretty feeble minded to give into the radical right brainwashing....

Old fashioned like the guy who just won the Democratic Primary and Presidential election? You don't get much more old-fashioned than Biden which is a sign that the Democrats, at least for now, are still a center-left party grounded in the same principles they've been grounded in since 1968. I only agree with about 50% of what they put out there, but it's a far cry from radical left and certainly a far cry from what we are currently seeing on the right.

Going farther and farther to the left could backfire. I like the old fashion democrats like Bill Clinton, Ted Kennedy, etc.

Call me when the "radical" left storm the capital and try to disrupt our democracy....there is only one party of utterly absurd and crazy right now, their whole foundation is based on lies/misinformation....

I am not a Trumper. He is a Hitlerian maniac.
The radicalization of right wing nuts is a reaction to race ID politics on the left. If the left plays the game of race ID politics the white nationalists will do the same. Isaac Newton was correct.

Obama would have been considered a republican a few decades ago. It isn't the left going more left, it is the right going so far right that moderate republicans have basically disappeared

You are correct, but two wrongs do not make a right. We need more moderates on both sides, otherwise we end up in a civil war. Both sides live in their respective echo chambers and are intransigent.

I'm glad to hear that first part, but the rest is utter BS....Trump and his ilk have emboldened white nationalists/nazis and other idiotic groups out there, to pretend the left played some large role in that is, I'll say "disingenuous"....at best

I know others have already chimed in on this post above but I just have a habit of responding to bullshirt when I see it in writing.

Where is the wrong that you are talking about here? I mean, essentially, you use that phrase so much that it seems like you now use it reflexively. Show me where the wrong is in @zztop quoted message. It's the defense you continually play that makes people question why you are always defensive.

And this is a big chunk of the reason that most of what you post is senseless bullshirt. Oh and before you cry about attacking the poster, I'm attacking what you post, not you. There's a difference....and if you need to be shown the difference, I'd be more than happy to oblige.
