Gov Newsome says the changes are being implemented to fight climate change.

In similar news, back in June, the CA Air Resources Board passed a mandate that by 2045 all new diesel truck sales, targeting the 18 wheeler industry, will need to be electric.

In Newsome's press conference he says they have a strong plan, the auto industry is trending this way, and they want to motivate society to make the switch to electric faster.

I think this is a noble venture, and amplified if the materials and power can also be produced in a more climate friendly manner than that of fossil fuels.

    Meet the goal?!?

Yeah they’ll meet it if California tells them to.

    They can’t afford not to.

This is the same deal in the 80’s with California emissions standards. They were way lower than the EPA’s. Guess which standard the auto industry followed.

California can and will make them do it and they will do it. If you can’t sell your cars California you will cease to exist.

    Some info:

Here are some of the specifics:

EVs must come with a charging cord.
Adapters must be available for standardized public chargers (e.g., Tesla’s upcoming CCS adapter).
Used vehicles must have battery health metrics so buyers know what they’re getting.
Batteries must hold 70% of range for 10 years/150K miles (80% after 2030 model year)
Warranties must guarantee 70% of battery capacity for 8 years/100K miles (75% in 2031 model year).
EV repair information must be disclosed to independent repair shops.

But despite all of this, there will be some cars allowed with gas engines in them, in the form of plug-in hybrid vehicles. Up to 20% of a manufacturer’s vehicles can be PHEVs, so potentially, up to 20% of cars in 2035 could still use gasoline.

However, those PHEVs will be regulated to certain minimum standards, such as a 50-mile all-electric range – which few PHEVs on the road today currently get. EVs will also have a minimum battery size of 150 miles.

"Californians may need to take measures to conserve energy, including by avoiding charging electric vehicles, to prevent strain to the state's power grid over the Labor Day weekend, officials said—a week after state regulators voted on a plan to ban the sale of gasoline-powered cars.

The new policy, approved by the California Air Resources Board, will require all new cars sold in California to be free of greenhouse gas emissions by 2035 as part of an effort to fight climate change.

But with a heat wave forecast for the coming days, California's grid operator on Tuesday warned that the excessive heat would stress the energy grid and conservation may be needed over the holiday weekend to avert power outages."

Wash and repeat. Now everyone get your EVs, jus don't charge them when it gets warm outside.

    Meanwhile in Wyoming

The resolution’s sponsor, Sen. Jim Anderson, R-Casper, told Cowboy State Daily the intention of the proposal, titled “Phasing Out New Electric Vehicle Sales By 2035,” is to push back against bans on new sales of cars with internal combustion engines in states like California and New York.

“The Legislature would be saying, ‘If you don’t like our petroleum cars, well, we don’t like your electric cars,’” Anderson said.

    Well, that's just STUPID.

Where were they when the elites forced out Betamax or Laser Discs?

I read something that stated Wyoming is like the 8th largest oil producing state in the US... I'm guessing this has something to do with it. Plus, you know, owning the libs or whatever

It says it’s a “resolution” from the legislature - not even a bill to become a law.

    More performative GOP bullshirt.
It is performative, but they did raise a few legit concerns. California went too far in outlawing the sale of new gas vehicles, since they could've gotten nearly the same benefit by forcing much longer electric-only range for hybrids, but that type of drastic move might be what saves the world, because it will spur the auto industry, which would otherwise drag their feet unless it made sense economically. California's law is the needed forcing function to tip the scale of economics, but they will most likely have to amend the law as the deadline approaches. California just needs to bluff long enough to assure that the forcing function is effective. Wyoming's market is irrelevant, so their action only serves to make them look idiot, and it won't scare anyone. Now, if Texas and Florida were to follow suit, then that would put a real damper on EV investments. Texas is a huge oil producer, so I bet they are now thinking about doing the same thing. Florida doesn't have much of a stake, other than to own libs, but I would hope both Texas and Florida understand, better than non-hurricane prone areas, the cost of the climate change, particularly low lying Florida.

Nah it has to do with that entire state having a tad bit over 500k people. This nonsense makes news and makes them exist in the big scheme of things. They made the press for something.

Realistically with the lack of range and EVs not charging worth a darn in the cold that state should be a hybrid state. Evs are great in an urban setting but when the largest city in the state has less people than the superdome holds you don't have urban settings.

All true. But it’s idiotic and government overreach to outlaw them. Rs love to say Dems do the overreach but that’s nonsense. It’s them doing it all the time these days.

Yeah this is the sound bite world we live in. Us talking about this total non factor is the win.

They have always taken something that doesn't apply and make noise about it because owning an Electric car in Wyoming would be just about the worst place in North America to own one. Just like critical race theory has never been taught in anything but college and is a bit much for anyone under that level to grasp. The actual truth has never been more important than the sound bite.
