We’re in a damned if you do or don’t age

You have to feign self-glorification just to keep up with the same act of the other person from the other side because it works on our 30 second sound bite, instant gratification or ignored populace. And yes, I’m being a bit of melodramatic and unreasonable cynic with that last statement.
Yes it's a problem which is solved by finding the lowest common denominator.

Joe Biden regrets having pulled out of this year’s presidential race and believes he would have defeated Donald Trump in last month’s election – despite negative poll indications, White House sources have said.

The US president has reportedly also said he made a mistake in choosing Merrick Garland as attorney general – reflecting that Garland, a former US appeals court judge, was slow to prosecute Donald Trump for his role in the 6 January 2021insurrection while presiding over a justice department that aggressively prosecuted Biden’s son Hunter.

With just more than three weeks of his single-term presidency remaining, Biden’s reported rueful reflections are revealed in a Washington Post profile that contains the clearest signs yet that he thinks he erred in withdrawing his candidacy in July after a woeful debate performance against his rival for the White House, Trump, the previous month.

The president stepped aside – to be replaced as his party’s nominee by the US vice-president, Kamala Harrisafter mounting pressure from fellow Democrats, who cited polling evidence that appeared to show him heading for a near-certain election drubbing from Trump, who was seeking a historic return to the White House as the Republicans’ nominee.

Harris’s ascent to the top of the ticket led to a surge of enthusiasm and improved poll numbers but ultimately ended in a decisive electoral college and popular vote defeat.

While Biden and his aides have been careful not to blame Harris, they apparently believe the result would have been different if he had stood his ground, according to the Washington Post’s reporting.

It is a view disputed by many Harris supporters, who blame the president for waiting too long before withdrawing, thus leaving the vice-president with little time to mount an effective campaign.

They also point out that Biden’s determination to seek a second term violated his 2020 campaign vow to be a “transitional” figure, who would pass the torch after one term after steering the country away from Trump’s presidency.…….

But according to the Post, Biden had to be persuaded by his chief of staff, Ron Klain, to choose Garland – at the time best known as Barack Obama’s failed choice to succeed the conservative justice Antonin Scalia on the US supreme courtbefore his nomination was derailed by a Republican-led Senate.

Biden’s political allies had pressed the case for Doug Jones, then a Democratic senator for Alabama, arguing that he would be better equipped to navigate Washington’s bitterly partisan atmosphere. Klain, instead, argued that Garland, reputed for fairness, would send a more reassuring message of justice department independence after Trump.

As events transpired, Biden still faced false accusations by Trump of “weaponising” the department as it pursued criminal investigations over his January 6 role and for hoarding classified White House documents – even while also investigating Hunter Biden and the president himself, the latter for also illegally retaining classified documents.

Biden now believes he should have chosen someone else, the Post reported, a view consistent with many Democrats, who believe Garland was too slow to investigate and eventually prosecute Trump for January 6 and related activities to reverse his defeat.…….

Yeah, no Joe, you weren't gonna win regardless.

Yes the debate was an epic disaster

But none of his appearances before of afterwards had been nearly that bad

The state of the union just a few months prior was among the best speeches Biden ever gave
    ===================

Joe Biden’s decline has, on one of America’s longest-running current affairs shows, been labelled the most underreported story of 2024.

The designation was made on CBS’s Face The Nation, which has been airing since 1954, by Jan Crawford, the network’s chief legal correspondent, after the show’s moderator, Major Garrett, asked reporters in a panel discussion to identify the most uncovered issues in a review of the year’s events.

“Undercovered and underreported. That would be, to me, Joe Biden’s obvious cognitive decline that became undeniable in the televised debate,” Crawford said in Sunday’s broadcast.

She was referring to the Junepresidential debatebetween Biden and Donald Trump in Atlanta, where the president’s confused display triggered deep concern among Democrats about his ability to win the election. Biden’s debate performance ultimately led to him withdrawing as the party’s nominee in favour of Kamala Harris.

Crawford castigated fellow journalists for not shedding light much earlier on the effect of ageing on the now 82-year-old Biden’s prowess.

“We should have much more forcefully questioned whether he was fit for office for another four years, which could have led to a primary for the Democrats,” she said. “It could have changed the scope of the entire election.”

Crawford also voiced astonishment over recent reporting – disclosed in a profile in the Washington Post about Biden’s reflections on his presidency – suggesting that he regretted abandoning his campaign and believed he would have beaten Trump in last month’s poll.

“Yet still – incredibly – we read in the Washington Post that his advisers are saying that he regrets that he dropped out of the race, [and] that he thinks he could have beaten Trump. And I think that is either delusional or they’re gaslighting the American people,” she said.

Soul-searching among the US media about its failure to interrogate Biden’s supposed loss of acuity is not new.

In the months since the debate, members of the White House press corps have pointed at the administration’s press team, saying questions about Biden’s physical and cognitive abilities triggered harsh pushback from the White House while the president’s appearances were tightly controlled…….

    Wow.
A member of the media said the bad part out loud.

I wonder if that article is made of anything. Anything at all. Sounds like gossip.

Creepy uncle Joe has had serious mental issues and decline for a long time. Everybody saw it and it was put out for full display in that first debate!

As opposed to creepy Trump? There is nobody on this board unless there is a gerontologist competent to diagnose Biden.

Did you see the debate Trump is by far more clear in the mind, than Biden. Everybody saw it, even George Clooney had to admit it in New York Times I didn’t vote for Trump, but Biden is and has been for a long time. Cognitively challenged. Jesus Christ his crackhead son seems far more together than him.

It really is amazing how many times you reiterate that you didn’t vote for for Trump

Doesn’t Shakespeare have a line about that?

    Something about protesting too much?

🤣 Do you think I’m gonna take any advice from some idiot on a message board who used Optimus Prime as a name to make himself feel bigger on a message board? I mean seriously you’re a joke!

A rambling idiot talking about sharks, electric boats, Hannibal Lector et al is not far more clear in mind.

George Soros and Hillary Clinton getting the Medal of Freedom

Glad to see Jose Andres on the list
    ==============

President Joe Biden on Saturday will award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to a star-studded list of celebrities, donors and former politicians, bestowing the nation’s highest civilian honor on some of the country’s best-known names and others who were integral in securing the victory of Biden and other Democrats in recent elections.

Several of the nominees are already thorns in the side of President-elect Donald Trump, in an indication that Biden is trying to cement a legacy and uphold institutions central to democracy.

The honorees include 2016 presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, billionaire donor George Soros, actor Michael J. Fox and deceased titans of politics such as Robert F. Kennedy……
