I think Steve is holding up pretty darned well for an older ... old style Republican who's been pitched head first down into a muddy ditch by MAGA. By folks who ought to have been his own kind.

    Wut happened!
    Well at least YOU understand.
Thanks for your brief yet totally on point post.

I am NOT going to vote for Trump.
I did NOT say you're going to vote for Trump. I said you obviously want Trump to win and Biden to lose.

I am NOT going to vote for Trump!
You already said that and I did NOT say you're going to vote for Trump. I said you obviously want Trump to win and Biden to lose.

I DO hold out hope that my posts showing Biden has at times a facial expression that is foggy and seemingly not "in the moment"...
Hope that what? You seemed to have drifted off mid-sentence. Does that mean you have dementia?

I DO have the hope that at least one person who always makes excuses for him will wake up after viewing the videos I post and then possibly come to the reality that Gavin Newsom should be slid in at the last moment to take his place.
You know that Trump wins the election hands down if that happens, so of course you want that to happen, because you want Trump to win the election.

My speculation is that Biden will win and then within a year he'll step aside and we'll have Kamala Harris as our President. I want someone younger than 65 as our next President.
    That's my agenda.
    Since when? You recently said:
Sad. Sad. Sad. Our two choices really stink!
    Nikki Haley, Joe Manchin.
I wish they had run as third party options.
Joe Manchin was born in 1947 and is 77 years old and you wish that he had run as a third party candidate. Do you wish Joe Manchin would run, just so you could not vote for him because he's too old? I don't think so.

Your consistent actions make it very clear to me that your agenda is to try to make Joe Biden look as bad as you can hoping to convince people not to vote for Joe Biden, because you'd rather see Trump win.

I would say your actions speak louder than your denials, but you have not once denied that you hope that Trump wins over Biden. You haven't denied that one single time, instead you just keep repeating that you are NOT going to vote for Trump.

I don't have a desire to read this person's entire post but one thing did catch my eye.
I would think that given the choice of loser and convicted felon Donald Trump vs Gavin Newsom, I would think that America would choose Gavin Newsom.
The only reason Trump might win is because people have no confidence that Biden can last effectively for 4 years.

    Joe Manchin is 77!?
    I had no idea.
He does not look 77 and he is very sharp.
I would make an exception to my 65 or younger criteria for Joe Manchin. ;)

This is rich. The only thing in my post that you read was in the middle of my post. You do know that throwing darts at your screen will damage it? I mean, how else did you just randomly read one thing that was in the middle of my post?

I would think that given the choice of loser and convicted felon Donald Trump vs Gavin Newsom, I would think that America would choose Gavin Newsom.
If Newsom was "slid" in to replace Biden, Newsom would have no money to campaign with, because he hasn't been raising funds. It's way too late to start now.

Newsom wouldn't be on the ballots in a lot of states, because it's too late for that. Elections aren't a Word document were you can just find and replace Biden on ballots and replace it with Newsom. That's not how it works.

I find it hard to believe you don't know that.

The only reason Trump might win is because people have no confidence that Biden can last effectively for 4 years.
The only reason Trump might win is because you and people like you keep doing everything you can to try to shake people's confidence in Biden's abilities while ignoring Trumps.

You post stuff that tries to deceive people into doubting Biden and you constantly make the false claim that Trump is just fine and mentally fit.

And once again, you do not deny that you want Trump to win over Biden. Stop hiding in the shadows. Be honest about what you want.

It depends on where you're at and what wage growth and inflation has done in your respective area. Yes, inflation is still going up, although at a slower clip, but wages aren't anywhere near where they were pre-covid. Not really close. Only a few years of significant wage growth and very mild inflation would make up for the lost time.

People keep using anecdotes or personal experiences like it’s meaningful data.

“ We now find that as of the end of 2023, the median American worker could afford the same goods and services as they did in 2019, with an additional $1,400 to spend or save per year.”

So your younger than 65 standard was just an ill informed knee jerk, arbitrary standard?
LA, Steve got your goat. Sorry to inform you of this, but he got it fair and square. You are now without your goat.

His entire post that he directed toward you was a rope-a-goat, or a get-your-goat, a well established form of conservative humor.

If you want to see examples of this kind of humor, and develop an understanding of it watch old episodes of Hee Haw.

We have that Bill Maher guy and his kind of liberal style is kind of similar to the conservative got-your-goat style, but what creates the gag lines on his show are substantially quite different.

I'm not saying my anecdote is meaningful data. I'm just saying it's not the same everywhere. And fwiw, the bulk of the wage increases are with those in the higher tax brackets so that skews the numbers, for obvious reasons. I really don't think those numbers from the Treasury are reflective of what's actually happening on the ground.

And some states and cities, wage growth has been stagnant relative to inflation. Wage growth absolutely has not kept pace everywhere. I mean, put it this way, I'm effectively making less now than I was in 2019. It's simple math. There are a LOT of people in that same boat.

    Data shows the exact opposite:

Krugman was tweeting this out today:

It really is just housing at this point.

Hopefully, the FBI raid on realpage is the start of an adversarial relationship the DoJ will have with landlords going forward.

There really needs to be a massive housing bill:

    1. MDU needs to be further encouraged, and municipalities should receive government grants if they easy zoning laws to build them.
    2. Airbnb/VRBO was a dumb idea that just sucks up housing so you can make your own bed in the morning.
    3. Large investment firms only own around 1% of SFHs in some large markets. That should be outlawed. A company that is owned by Blackrock shouldn't be buying houses in your neighborhood.

P.S. I also think people think about inflation because of fast food prices. That might change since McDonalds missed it profit targets. Still, it's a change in strategy. They would rather sell 2 big macs at 20 dollars then 10 at $5.

I think LA is spending too much time thinking about my posts. So out of compassion to LA, I'm gonna stop looking at this forum for the balance of today and additionally I'll not be looking here all of tomorrow as well.
I'll next look in on Mad About Politics on Friday.
    Bye until then.

💯 the tweet I was going to post next. Biden economy > Trump economy because its benefitting bottom 50% more.

@DaveXA Broadly, Americans are better off today than 2019. BLS, Fed, and Treasury data in articles Ive posted point to such. But here is an inflation calculator for those who aren’t keeping pace. I think most people would be surprised by how they are actually doing. I also think people need to take the total stimulus they received, divide by 4, and add that to today’s salary. I hear PPP loan and 15k+ stimulus people complain about inflation while not owning up to how much they raked in.

Well then, I guess my job hasn't kept pace because I'm effectively making less now than when I was hired. My costs have gone up faster than my salary in spite of my spending habits actually being tighter than in 2019. The numbers for me don't lie. I suppose I should have gotten promoted by now, but just purely based on my pay increases which have increased on average 5% per year, when inflation for me has been closer to 10% per year even though it's tapered off a bit in the last 12 months.

Either I'm an anomaly or there's a lot not being accounted for in the stats.

Also, I don't really give a sheet who is president. As far as the economy goes, presidents only have a peripheral effect on the economy. It's always been a cyclical thing to a large degree. I'm not blaming Biden, and plan to vote for him. I'm also not going to blame Trump either because he didn't do much of anything for domestic policy either way. That was mostly Congressional legislation.

I don't know how your career works, but for IT. You change jobs every 2-3 years if you want to increase salary.

And to put a finer point on the topic, my 2 largest expenses are housing and food, and those are the things that really haven't helped the equation for me. Those haven't really slowed down all that much.
