Biden stepping down - now what? (3 Viewers)

You and many others affected that polling when you started calling for Biden to step down. A mass action effect. You and many others moved that needle.
I think the polls looked bad well before the debate and subsequent calls for ending the run. It’s OBE. All democrats will benefit from this change.

I don't see anyone on the possible lists for replacing Biden that would beat Trump.

Shapiro is probably their best option, but is he seasoned enough?

Harris couldn't even win her own state when she ran for President. It seems like political suicide to nominate her, but she's still a better option than Biden.
Trump is hardly unbeatable. There are more voters that dislike him than voters that like him.

    Speaking of elites

I take nothing away from those who wanted Biden to stay in. Everyone here was acting in good faith, under difficult conditions. But the voters were clear all along — they were just being denied a real choice of candidates or real information about Biden's capacity to campaign. The debate broke that, and that fractured the unity of the elites, and moved more of them towards the position that voters had long held.

Now you're quoting Ezra Klein's opinions after yesterday or the day before claiming the party was disregarding the will of their voters. Maybe wait a couple of weeks or so before taking contradictory positions.

Does the average Voter care? Nope.

This puts life back into the party and race. It opens up the door to folks who were thinking Biden was just too old (and not voting because). It's simple stuff.
That's assuming that voters who claimed they just couldn't vote for Biden because of his age actually meant that.

Rachel Maddow: delegates from TN, NC, SC, NH, and now LA have been pledged to Harris.
By morning she might have achieved the standing of being the apparent nominee. That gives her the power to name her VP before the nomination votes are taken. And more control over the convention. That would be if it were a standard convention.

If they do the virtual vote like they are planning to do between the 1st and the 7th of Aug that won't come up unless she wants to name her VP before the inperson convention begins.

I sure hope by morning that they have enough pledged delegates rounded up to do that.

I wish SFL actually read Ezra Klein, and Ryan Grim. He would have very different opinions if he did. =)

    Sure.

I still think this gives them a better chance than what it was going to be with Biden though, especially if he'd just stuck it out through all the calls to step aside.. at least there's an energy now.

Because of Ohio, she has to name her vp before August 1st for the ballots in Ohio.

It feels like we’re rapidly reaching the point where there’s no turning back from her. I’m with you, the sooner this can get wrapped up, the better. This isn’t a situation where the party has better alternate routes at this time.

Someone was saying she will have the necessary delegates by Wednesday morning I think. Not sure why they thought that, though.

Joe had 3 weeks to turn it around. If he had been coherent, and articulate in his TWO primetime interviews. His polling would have recovered, and he would still be the nominee.
J-Donk, this is over, no need to further argue your point, or mine. We disagreed about how coherent he was during those interviews at that time, but that's in the past now. It's become moot.

    ;)

    Let's get Harris elected.

You guys seem nervous lol. It was done as soon as Biden endorsed. The delegates are all Biden loyalist. The nominee is decided. This is going down exactly how some of us on the board said it would.

P.S. This would have been negiotated with Nancy, et al.

Most of the DNP's energy is going to be focused on the transition of candidates.

I agree, but the Ohio deadline is either the 7th or the 8th.

The 7th is the deadline the party set when they set up that virtual vote to do this. They were aware of Ohio date, and had it figured in such that they could do it as late as the 7th.

August 7th is the deadline for Ohio. Aug 1st is the earliest date the DNC agreed they would start the roll call votes of delegates. Based on reporting, it seems that a lot of delegates are ready to start the roll call vote right now. Now that Biden has stepped down, we might see the roll call vote take place before Aug 1st. The DNC wanted to get it done by July 27th, but they were asked to push it back by Congressional leadership due to the controversy over Biden. That controversy has been resolved.

    I'm happy as well.
I think that window for turning back was eclipsed within an hour of Biden's announcement. Those early endorsements included all most all of the possible contenders for the nomination. All of them I was worried about.

Even Adam Schiff got his endorsement in within a couple of hours. He got my vote back by the way, after he wrote that nice endorsement.

So the Katie Porter write in campaign to shaft Schiff will soon evaporate. :D We got his attention with that. I doubt that Porter actually had anything to do with that other than she has the name we were all going to write in.
