I just read today that the Secret Service had requested Trump not hold these outdoor rallies because they make it harder to protect him, but he didn’t stop. The general consensus is that he was holding these outdoor rallies in sometimes extreme heat for 2 reasons: they’re cheaper, and he was having trouble booking some indoor venues because he has a history of not paying the venues and word got around.

I would add a third reason. When Trump holds a rally inside an arena that seats 12,000 people, and the entire upper deck is empty, it’s easy to say “well, there is only about 3,000 people there. When he has a crowd outside, it’s easier for him to say there were 30,000 people there, and harder for anyone to accurately estimate the crowd size.

Hot take: Within 5 years we will have higher standards to buy/fly a drone than buy a gun. They penetrate perimeters and can carry significant amount of ordinance. Assassination via a retail drone and pipe bomb is a real risk.

That seems obvious. With at least 3 different agencies indeed that I'm aware of, and probably more, accounting for all personnel and their whereabouts isn't exactly something they'd have immediate access to, not to mention the roles and responsibilities for each one.

Not exactly shocking. 20 year olds with little or no criminal history aren't typically on their watch-lists.

I assume he used the ladder that the agent who was assigned to the roof would have. Remember he was walking around and apparently scoping out the area and he would have noticed means to get to the roof of the buildings. I'm guess is the ladder he bought was in case he needed it

Looks like he definitely planned it ahead of time and wasn't a spur of the moment thing.

He said “What do you expect to happen when they call someone a threat to democracy. They are the threat to democracy.”

Besides that subtle call for a retaliatory assassination, he just makes jokes the whole way through it. It doesn’t make you feel like it takes it seriously.

I haven't seen all of the details he revealed, but I'd say revealing how many snipers they have would be an opsec risk, and something you probably don't want potential bad actors to know.
