I was looking for a place to put this so we could discuss but didn't really find a place that worked so I created this thread so we can all place articles, experiences, videos and examples of racism in the USA.

This is one that happened this week. The lady even called and filed a complaint on the officer. This officer also chose to wear the body cam (apparently, LA doesn't require this yet). This exchange wasn't necessarily racist IMO until she started with the "mexican racist...you will never be white, like you want" garbage. That is when it turned racist IMO

All the murderer and other insults, I think are just a by product of CRT and ACAB rhetoric that is very common on the radical left and sadly is being brought to mainstream in this country.

Another point that I think is worth mentioning is she is a teacher and the sense of entitlement she feels is mind blowing.

So only mermaids can play mermaids? 🤷‍♂️
    agreed, it is stupid.

Can we all agree from here on out, actors can only play the part if the character checks all the same boxes as them so we can stop all of this silliness? The left is all about identity politics so this should be no brainer for all racists everywhere.

You have no idea if they are all covered or not unless you watch every news broadcast and read every newspaper. The only person making stuff up is you.

It's ridiculous because we don't investigate people when there is no reason to believe a crime has been committed. This is completely different from the Duke lacrosse case, where a direct accusation of rape was made against a specific group of people with a police report filed.

We also, as a society, shouldn't punish people for coming forward when they think something has happened. There is no evidence that Rachel Richardson lied.
It didn't happen. Her teammates, other team, fans, coaches, video and audio ALL say it didn't happen. Faking a hate crime should be crime. Do you not agree?

I remember actors saying something to the effect of, shouldn't a black actor be able to play Hamlet? I say, yes. So when did we lose sight of that? Shouldn't a non-white actor be able to play Abraham Lincoln if he is convincing enough? If he nails what we know of Lincoln, why not?

On the other hand, should a white actor be able to play Martin Luther King? You have to say yes. If he portrays King's character, again, why not?
Red in Shawshank was supposed to be a white irish guy. No one cared because Freeman nailed it and made that movie.
Maybe she was just awful, don't know, havent seen it because I am an adult.

This is a binary problem. Either they only cast by identity check boxes across the board with no exceptions or we go back to the real world where an actor can, you know, act. If they suck, they suck.

Real people should be played by people of their race. Fictional people can be played (or drawn) in whatever race. Doesn't really matter what the source material is as many fictional works are made and remade with numerous revisions/changes.

There, I've solved that. We can get on with other petty stuff.

A lack of evidence doesn't mean something didn't happen. If I said that I grew a carrot in my backyard and then ate it, your lack of knowledge regarding that carrot doesn't make my story a lie.

Faking a hate crime should be crime. Do you not agree?

That has nothing to do with this since we don't know whether or not anyone faked anything. Besides, I'm fairly certain shouting out a racial slur is legal, so even if she is lying, she's not faking a hate crime.

You are saying this when the only people having a cow here are definitely your tribe, not the left. 🤦‍♀️

Everything in life isn’t binary - there can be two things that are true. One - that you don’t need to pay attention too much to the skin color of a character. And Two - white people have dominated roles in acting for decades. So if you have a character that represents a populace that has been under-represented it would be better to use that populace to play that role, if it is feasible.

I think your idea that everything is either all good or all bad is holding you back here.

Ok, I can agree to that, now if we can get each others sides to agree to the new rules.

What about historical context? Do we keep that correct as well or is there liberties with that? All of these have to be addressed because you know either side will clutch pearls

What if I went and looked at video and audio of your backyard because you were filming your garden and we all saw that you did not grow a carrot. That is an correct analogy. There is evidence that it didn't happen. There for she either made a mistake or lied. Either way, she at the very least owes and apology to BYU and especially the kid that got escorted out and banned from future games.

The left never got upset about a white, hetero actor playing someone that does not check those boxes? You might want to check your google machine.

So, it is only ok for one side to get upset for the same action?

Are you saying that black people have been under represented in popular culture? Again, your insistence on seeing only the color of someone skin is just wild to me.

You'd have to give me an example.

Sorry, the cameras in my backyard don't show the small little section where I grow my carrots. And with the ambient noise, you can't hear me dig it up. It still happened, though.

    That is an correct analogy.

Your logic is as bad as your grammar.

A lack of evidence for an event does not mean there is evidence that the event did not take place. That's not how evidence works. I fully admit that she may have made a mistake. I said as much in a prior post. Whether that rises to the level of her owing an apology is a different discussion and ultimately a decision only she can make.

Racists and "anti-woke" conservatives are losing their shirt over a new version of the Little Mermaid that features a black Ariel. Despite the fact that mermaids don't actually exist, the story is pure fantasy with talking crabs and a villain with purple skin, these people advance the asinine argument that Ariel must be white. Probably just like how Jesus is white.

Good lord. These are grown arse men vehemently complaining about The Little Mermaid. It's so freakin funny, I can't stand it.

And some of the stuff they're saying is so absurd - they might as well hang a sign around their necks that say "Look at me - I'm so racist that I'm willing to say idiotic things"

Grown men are getting triggered by a little mermaid.

Disney recently released a trailer for a new live-action version of the Little Mermaid starring Halle Bailey, a Black actor, and it has sparked a depressingly predictable racist backlash.

The trailer has received 1.5m dislikes on YouTube and caused a lot of bigots to have a conniption fit. If you’re getting a sense of deja vu about all this, it’s because the same people already had a meltdown in 2019, when the live-action remake was first announced.

It’s not just the Little Mermaid: rightwingers, the people who love telling liberals to toughen up snowflake, routinely get their knickers in a twist over animated entertainment targeted at the four-to-12-year-old crowd.

There seems to be a backlash about diversity onscreen every five minutes.

Earlier this month, for example, the right were getting het up over a lesbian polar bear family in Peppa Pig. I don’t know how they have the energy to care about cartoon polar bears; it really must be very exhausting.

While there may be nothing new about bigots raging over animated entertainment, this particular backlash is noteworthy because of just how unhinged the response has been.

An anonymous computer scientist, for example, went to the trouble of using artificial intelligence to whiten Halle Bailey’s appearance in the trailer.

A (now-suspended) Twitter account jubilantly shared the altered trailer, announcing: “Credits to our memer Artificial intelligence scientist. He fixed The Little Mermaid and turned the woke actor into a ginger white girl.”

Shortly after the Twitter account added: “This is purely for educational purposes, please do not misinterpret this in a racist way.” Uh huh………

Walsh later said what all racists say when people call them out: his statement about a Black mermaid being unscientific was a joke! Which would have been a lot more convincing of an argument if Walsh hadn’t built his brand on far-right views.

Walsh clearly has an active imagination so I’d like to suggest a little thought experiment to him: try imagining a world where you grew up rarely seeing someone like yourself be a hero onscreen.

Walsh is an able-bodied thirtysomething white guy. He grew up with no end of TV shows and movies starring boys who looked like him.

If you take that representation for granted then it can be hard to understand how important it is to see yourself included in popular culture.

It can be hard to understand how dehumanizing it is to be constantly sent the message that people who look like you can never be heroes.

I’m speaking from personal experience here: the other day I found myself unexpectedly shedding a tear because Mo Amer was on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon talking about how his new Netflix show, Mo, is “the first ever show created by, starring a Palestinian, and showing a Palestinian family on television”.

As a Palestinian, I wish there had been something like Mo on TV when I was growing up……
