I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

People who live in stone houses shouldn't throw glass thrones . . . or something like that. :winkthumb:

By your rationale, no politician should ever be held accountable. Do you think this is a good way for our government to be run?

Actually, you are making the bizzare leap that criticizing your use of a "quip" used by teenage girls somehow equates to criticizing or fear of homosexuals.

It's consistent with your comment to me in a PM you sent implying only effeminate men call other men liars....I've heard that "quip" used by all types of folks, so I guess I'm not sure why you think you are being clever here, but I do see a pattern of behavior that is quite interesting....

The Trump administration is requiring Americans who receive Social Security to file a tax return to receive their $1,200 economic stimulus payment, an added step that is causing confusion and could prevent millions from easy access to relief.

Many lawmakers and advocates for the poor say filing a tax return shouldn’t be necessary for people on Social Security because the government already knows how to send this population monthly checks.

The $2.2 trillion aid legislation, passed in response to the coronavirus pandemic, said that if someone has not filed a 2019 or 2018 tax return, the U.S. Treasury should get their information from Social Security, if applicable......

Most high school seniors and college students won’t get any money. The bill gives nothing to families for their children older than 16, a shock to many households already reeling from canceled graduations, and college students readjusting to life at home with so many universities shut down.

Many immigrant families are also learning that they are ineligible. In order for anyone in the family to receive a payment, each person in the household — including children — is supposed to have a valid Social Security number......

I'm either a pragmatic realist or a realistic pragmatist. Can't decide which.

"He may be a crook, but he's our crook!"
    - Frequently repeated voter endorsement of Gov. Edwards on the campaign trail.

That fails to actually answer the question, DD. Do you think a blanket refusal to hold crooked politicians accountable is a good way to run the government?

Oh, you might mention that anybody who owes child support will see their economic stimulus go to stimulate their ex and his/her new spouse. I've got a relative or two that are really P.O.'d about that.

Regarding the folks on Social Security, I know what it felt like for me to be serving my country, drawing a paycheck from my country and having my country tax me so they could use it to pay my paycheck, so I can relate. :winkthumb:

Similarly, the government pays me a military retirement each month and taxes it so they can use the taxes to pay my military retirement. :banghead:

Fortunately, I don't have to share the stimulus. We did married filing jointly. My wife considers it all to be hers, fair and square. :bowdown2:

I believe we have a trap door system which eliminates politicians who can't do whatever it takes to get the job done.
If you require every political leader to always do everything totally legal and above board, you take away their flexibility.
Sometimes, it really does take a thief.
Sometimes, you cut a deal with the Mafia to ensure that the longshoremen take care of business so we don't lose the war. Fuggitaboutit.

That's twice now, DD. Do you think a blanket refusal to hold crooked politicians accountable is a good way to run the government?

I didn't say anything about homosexuality then either. You keep making that leap and then attributing it to me.

I never thought about it, since "good" is far too subjective and subject to interpretation.
We simply do the best that we can.
BTW, we had a nice conversation going elsewhere and you deleted all your posts. Why'd you do that?

That's three times now. If it helps, I will rephrase the question. Speaking solely for this country, do you think a blanket refusal to hold crooked politicians accountable is preferable to a system where crooked politicians are held accountable in a public manner through the mechanisms provided by the Constitution?

Oh, I get it, you're pretending this is a courtroom, you're a prosecutor and I'm a hostile witness!
You've been watching so many Law & Order reruns, you don't know how to have a casual conversation anymore.

Next, you're going to blame me for getting off topic.

So, back on topic, given that I just verified I have a winning $4 Powerball ticket from last Saturday, would it be OK for me to go cash it in and get two more Powerball tickets in Hancock County, MS, today given the coronavirus warnings and restrictions in that locale?

Seriously? I really could care less what you think of me but I don't make it a habit of describing other men's actions or words as effeminate or compare them (words/actions) to teenage girls....I believe that says a whole lot about you...

No, I am asking you to expand on something you said, This is four times you've refused. Why do you refuse to engage in discussions on a discussion board?

The reason you couldn't see my posts is because I blocked you. Then I reconsidered. I'm here to engage in open and honest discussion. Blocking people is antithetical to that.

I think all congressmen and presidents should be required to put all of their stock in trusts, because it is nearly impossible for them not to get insider information on which to trade.

I've seen plenty of examples politicians colluding with foreign powers to protect their interests overseas.

You might want to look up how much money US soldiers were fined for damaging each rubber tree in the Michelin plantation during the War in Vietnam. See, the fines were imposed at the behest of politicians who owned Michelin stock . . . congressmen and such . . . I believe at least one vice president was also named in that little scandal.

Now, let's revisit what I said that made you call me a liar:

I have watched so many politicians be given a free pass for things of this nature
    - Dadsdream

    OK.
    You replied to this post
Russian Collusion investigation occurred under a GOP House and was part of the Justice Department and was started because there was so much crap coming out, they had to do something or look complicit. Not sure how Pelosi gets blamed for that one. That was wrapped up well before the Corona Virus.

Impeachment was on her but it was warranted. How can you accept turning the other way when there was questionable behavior from the WH?
    With this......
Honestly? In my lifetime, I have watched so many politicians be given a free pass for things of this nature that I found it utterly ridiculous that so much time and effort was put into Russia Collusion and Ukraine Impeachment.

As the decades have passed and more and more things have come to light and been declassified, I've found presidents who were touted as righteous, virtuous and honest were anything but that. The president who I was taught to admire as a virtuous good guy family man turned out to be a whore monger who screwed around with actresses and mob bosses' girlfriends while in office

Then I asked you to do this to back up your claim because the post you responded to was clearly talking about trump.
Name 3 politicians that were given a pass for suspected collusion with our top enemy or verified bribing of foreign governments to open up fake investigations into their political opponent and then lying about it and blocking investigations into it.
I didn't even ask you to name 3 PRESIDENTS. I asked you to name 3 politicians to back up your assertion to the very specific topic to which you responded. In case you need to be reminded of what you were responding to, you were responding to a post referencing Russian collusion and Impeachment for Quid Pro Quo. You failed to produce any names of politicians, which for all intents and purposes, renders your claim of having watched so many politicians be given a free pass for things of that nature, false, unless of course you didn't fully understand that to which you were replying.

So what does your quote above have to do with a president colluding with Russia to win an election or a president being impeached for an attempted bribery to interfere with an election? NOTHING, absolutely nothing. Maybe you responded to the wrong post. That would explain your post better because other than that, those scenarios are completely different.

Also, I didn't call you a liar. I've been admonished about that. What I said was that you posted a false claim of seeing many politicians (when the post you were responding to was clearly talking about one politician in particular and two very specific cases of corruption) get a pass for things of that nature....meaning things such as collusion with an enemy state and attempted bribery to interfere with our elections.

Yes, JFK and Clinton for that matter were both "whore mongers". There's no denying that. Neither of them colluded with Russian to win their elections and neither of them tried to bribe a foreign power to interfere with a presidential election. Here's some free advice. You might want to gather your thoughts a little more before you respond to an apple and oranges post with tales of dogs and cats.
